Outside the draft I was thinking maybe we could use Jaksch (and if necessary another fringe player) in a straight swap for Liam Jones. Jones has never seemed to settle at the Doggies and maybe a move to CHB, a changes of cities away from the lime-light and a new challenge might fire him up. It also spreads our age range a bit.

Within the draft I was thinking we could use our first draft pick for Peter Wright; and then maybe with our next pick (which is potentially an up-graded one having used our compensation pick and one of a number of top grade mid-fielders who wanted to go home) to get Tom Lamb. I have alays been drawn to players with the x-factor and he supposedly has it in spades. Following that then Finlayson; followed by other RAMS in the rookies (with them and Jed Lamb we'd be one flocked up football club)

You misunderstand me. If Stewart wanted to stay, then we wont trade him, even for Collingwood's pick one.
Yeah I see where you are coming from personally I just hope Stewart has a good career I was very upset when we overlooked him.
But with Jaksch reportedly leaving, Stewart likely jumps up a peg on the ladder as the tall swingman type player.

Yeah Jaksch maybe on the way out but please tell me another side that has a better group of young talls? Personally I think they way you have developed them have been first rate and I think it was a list strategy getting a lot of them and developing them in to very good young players as in a few years when you are making your push to the finals and you don't need all of them you can trade some out for top picks or top line mids to keep a more even spread with the age profile of the list.

So at the moment of our 2013 draftees Boyd is now the only guy who hasn't signed a contract extension
I get a sinking feeling that Boyd is as good as gone

There is nothing to substantiate these feelings other than going purely on my gut, but I just don't get the vibe that he loves it up in Sydney. I could be way off, but the fact that he's the #1 pick and hasn't extended yet makes me worry

I'd do it. But I think it under-values pick one.

What about 1 and 38 for 4, 20 and 23? Or would you prefer to leave the extra picks out of it and include someone like Whiley? Does your interest in pick 1 change if you have pick 3 instead of 4?

I find the pick 1 debate fairly interesting because people seem to have wildly differing opinions on what it is worth.

So its Kennedy, Haynes & Lobb

locked away to 2017
http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2014-08-28/trio-locked-in

The mass exodus continues!!! :D

Very happy with this.

Lobb is a project with huge potential upside. He's athletic, can take a good mark and is a very good kick. He will be an integral part of our future.

Haynes is quite simply the most improved player on our list. I initially thought we made a massive blue taking him at pick 6 but he has proven to be an astute pick up. As a defender he will only get better an better and hopefully Plowman follows in his footsteps when he finds his feet.

Kennedy is probably the most underrated and anonymous player in our team. He just goes about his business every week and the differential between his best and worst is probably smaller than any other player. Mr Consistency.

This is just the start guys, some big fish including Treloar to come.

Out of that lot, Haynes is the one I was most worried about. Thank goodness he's stuck with us.

Now for the rest of them.....

Worry-wort? Boyd has a season long run at establishing a permanent forward position while JonnyP recuperates. If he wants out of that situation, pffft, let him go. He'll stay.
Yeah, slightly just me worrying. As I said, there's nothing to substantiate my feelings.

Hopefully next season is a great one for Boyd on a personal level, as well as for the club, because his role will be much larger next year with Jon out of the mix. If we start to make a push towards the 8 and he's developing well and enjoying his footy - I would back us to hang onto him.
