If Weller has been working on building muscle in the gym, it would probably have affected his endurance a bit.
Now he has put some muscle on, he can work on his running over the summer, as well as maintaining his work in the gym.
When he was drafted, his endurance was apparently very good.
There's plenty of time before the season starts.
I'm really excited for Weller, reckon he'll be an awesome pickup when he develops. He'll be seriously pushing for a regular spot this year IMO

So if a little bird told me that Griff finished 6th, Weller's results would be pretty good for a player entering their 2Nd pre-season?

Again I am very bullish on Weller, and he will be a gun. However, I heard after his result the club gave him a kick up the ass. Blakely on the other hand has been extremely impressive from what I've heard.

The point I was trying to make (maybe a little mischievously) was that saying things like "the club gave him a kick up the ass" without sources comes across as saying things for the sake of saying them.

It reminds me of the way Damien Barrett reports.

In my opinion if you are going to come onto a public forum and report what the club has said you should either site your sources, or if you are uncomfortable doing so provide us with a reason for why this should be taken as fact.

What's your source about the kick up the ass that Weller supposedly got?. If he as a 2nd year player and came in at 7th place I would be reasonably happy. Lets worry about the next 3Km test next week. Look forward to hearing who your source is or is it some made up story?

That is your opinion, and it is one which I do not support. I am not a journalist, and therefore everything I post on here is to provide insight to the community. Whether you or others believe what I have said is a personal choice. I am merely posting what I have heard from an individual who is remarkably well connected.

It is quite valid to question the truthfulness of what I have said, and any rationally minded person would do the same. Treat what I say with the skepticism it deserves, but I do not have the time or inclination to sit at home and invent stories.

TL;DR

I am going to post what I hear. If you don't like the fact that I will keep my friend anonymous, and keep my info uncited then you can put me on ignore.

Not having a crack, as a fan I'm happy to get the inside info and appreciate the posts. I would say though if what you say is true (and I am not saying it's not) don't you think that if your well connected mate needs to be kept anonymous that he may not appreciate you posting it on the worlds biggest footy website? When identities need protecting it's generally because info isn't meant for public consumption.

Fundamentally identities should always be protected on the internet. I am your average pleb and I would hate to see my name scrawled on this site. A lot of information posted on Bigfooty is not for public consumption, and that's one of the reasons why this site is so popular. If we didn't share this information, then we would have millions of threads about Clive Waterhouse and Tony Modra. As for my friend I wouldn't worry about that.

A final thought: I wonder if I had of posted "My friend has also heard that Jesse Hogan wants to come home..." would this have evoked the same skepticism from some posters on here? I would hope people would show the same healthy skepticism for both positive and negative news.

Happy New Year.

Training reports are really valuable in the sense that its straight from the horses mouth, first hand observation, people watching and reporting, and even then we as readers filter it through a fair amount of skepticism based how we perceive how that person posts on other topics.

2nd hand "I heard.." stuff isn't much use even if you use terms like "remarkably well connected" as it doesn't constitute anything other than gossip. Its like Kim Hagdorn writing a story using phrases like "Sources inside the club say". Once its out in the public domain its subject to scrutiny, and it makes it no difference it its printed in the local rag or on a footy fan website.

Reasonable examples of skepticism might be:

i)You could have a remarkably well connected friend that is prone to hyperbole when relating stories.

ii) Griffin may have had a lap to go when the remarkably well connected friend saw him pass the finishing line in front of Weller

iii) Everyone gets something akin to a kick up the arse during the pre-season, no biggie, that's what pre-season is for.

Maybe in a week or two someone will confirm that what you posted is likely to be true, based on hearing the same thing broadcast on a sports radio program by one of the hosts who heard it was a story brewing for a while from another journo who has been trying to uncover the facts, after being alerted to it by the wife of friend at a dinner party who happened to mention that her son read about it on Big Footy.

On the other hand you could be spot on.

If you regularly attend training and sit near the change rooms \ Gym you get a very good idea as to how players are going , if you ask nicely the coaches will answer questions about a player or a particular exercise . The players are very approachable and again if the player has time they will have a short conversation with you .They always make time for the kids .You just have to be patient because it is their work place and they are striving to perform at their best .

If the comments about Weller were even close to being true then he would have been running lap after lap in the sessions after the 3km run up until the break. This has not been the case. In fact Weller has done a heap of strength exercises from what I've seen and read. Zero chance he would be doing that if there was even the slightest concern on his endurance.

I don't see the point of posting something that is clearly bullshit. It derails talk about things that are actually happening.

Hi Just for info purposes. I understand that there were no training watchers at the 3 km done early morning at McGillvary Oval. The only info who ran where that is available are some photos on the Dockers website and the associated article so finishing positions other than top 3 (i think it was) were not disclosed.

Interesting article on the Freo site about Ethan Hughes:

http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2015-12-30/ill-push-as-hard-as-i-can-hughes

"Fremantle midfielder Ethan Hughes says he will do everything in his power to earn a playing role this season after recently being promoted to the senior list.

“I’ll push as hard as I can, train as hard as I can and do everything I can to get a kick,” he said.

“[I’ll put my] best foot forward to keep training as hard as I can.”

Hughes elected to keep his off-season brief by working on his own training ahead of his second pre-season with Fremantle.

“I just went to Bali for a week and everything else was back in Perth training to get my body right and get ready for pre-season,” he said.

“It’s great to get back out there with the boys.

“It’s starting to get into the full swing of things, [I’m] loving it.”

Apart from the fact Ethan came back early to train (a promising sign!), this is the first time I've seen him be referred to as a midfielder by the club.

Hey training watchers, has Ethan been doing mostly back-line drills so far at training, or is this an early indication of a possible role-change (...y'know...so that Morra can slot in there at HB :D:thumbsu: )
