I haven't taken much notice of where he has been training but if I remember I'll keep an eye out when they come back.

I heard he didn't finish because he got distracted by an icecream van driving past Freo Oval.
I believe Hughes may turn out to be the real surprise packet of our recent drafting.
Just looks to have that something special.
Interesting article on the Freo site about Ethan Hughes:
http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2015-12-30/ill-push-as-hard-as-i-can-hughes
"Fremantle midfielder Ethan Hughes says he will do everything in his power to earn a playing role this season after recently being promoted to the senior list.
“I’ll push as hard as I can, train as hard as I can and do everything I can to get a kick,” he said.
“[I’ll put my] best foot forward to keep training as hard as I can.”
Hughes elected to keep his off-season brief by working on his own training ahead of his second pre-season with Fremantle.
“I just went to Bali for a week and everything else was back in Perth training to get my body right and get ready for pre-season,” he said.
“It’s great to get back out there with the boys.
“It’s starting to get into the full swing of things, [I’m] loving it.”
Apart from the fact Ethan came back early to train (a promising sign!), this is the first time I've seen him be referred to as a midfielder by the club.
Hey training watchers, has Ethan been doing mostly back-line drills so far at training, or is this an early indication of a possible role-change (...y'know...so that Morra can slot in there at HB )
A
Agreed E-shed, I recently watched his debut game against Port Adelaide again - 22 possessions on debut and some very nice plays in there to boot.
Worth watching to see Tabs dominating up forward as well. He had some shocking misses due to a lack of composure, but he also looked bloody dangerous early and could conceivably have kicked 4 goals in the first quarter but for some silly mistakes.
Fred....The only suggestion that I have seen anywhere that he may possibly play forward is in your posts. Does it have any foundation beyond your imagination?
Has Sandi done most of the preseason? I had a look through your training reports and he hardly got a mention.
Cheers.
Had a go at Devils Advocate above.I realise that we have numerous options for our forward line and have just added to it in the draft with Yarran and Uberganger. Plus of course Bennell and Tabs developing.
Ethan Hughes is a good mark and a good kick and not a particularly slow player. He now also has size.
The club has elevated him to the main list so, obviously they see a lot in him. I don't see him pushing out any of our classy mids for which there is now a queue forming or our forwards which is in a similar healthy state; That leaves the defence for which he has all the attributes and is where he has experience. And given we have been exposed in the back line by small speedy forwards, I have rationalised he may be in line for that role.

I obviously don't know him as well as you but I think our forward issues are overstated, or more correctly, won't be remedied by anything other than a quality KPF. I have my doubts that is what he will become and he seems more a possible Mayne replacement.
My hunch is Hurley or Apeness have a greater chance to become our forward solutions than Hughes.

Why bother quoting me if you are going reverse edit it .
In the absence of another KPF, we are needing to make do with what is available hence the drafting of Yaz.
From what I saw of Apeness last week, he is a long way off in his recovery.
So, we are left with continuing with the same players that haven't been able to get the extra goals we want or try something new.
I have said before I have lost confidence in Taberner and apart from robbing Peter to pay Paul by using Alex Pearce as a KPF, we have very little else we can try.
It is not just me stating we do not score enough goals, every bastard is saying it and presumably that is why we tried so hard to trade McCarthy.
Seeing as we failed there and given our lack of quality talls , we have brought in a seriously fast alternative that may get the job done as an interim measure. That seems like an infinitely reasonable and sensible move while we wait for Cam McCarthy.
Ethan Hughes is only another option. We have something in mind for him and I have merely opined it may be a forward role owing to the depth we have in the other areas.
It is an opinion and other training watchers have commented on his impressive size and mobility albeit still not a KPP size.
Ultimately, we can either try something new or do nothing and pray.
BTW, I will be amazed if Sean Hurley ever plays for Freo and very surprised if he stars at Peel.
Now that Ballard and Jones are gone that has opened up a couple of midfield spots at Peel so it makes sense that Hughes will transition to the midfield, I wonder if Morabito will slide back or if he will step into a midfield role too, has there been any indication of this at training?I can categorically say that Ethan Hughes has been training with the midfield group.

Haven't seen anyone writing his career off at all so not sure where you have heard that?Hows Sheridan looking over the preseason so far? After his infamous dropped mark against the hawks in the finals people seem to be writing his career off. Has he put some weight on and do you think he will bounce back and lock in a best 22 role on the back flank. Interested for DT Keepers

BigFooty people? media? Fremantle supporters?
Or are you just making that up as a reminder that one moment in a game will be remembered negatively by some?
People who have bothered to watch his development will know that his career will not be defined by a single moment.

Yep. Ethan seems to be training as an outside mid from what I saw. He has a good run on him.I can categorically say that Ethan Hughes has been training with the midfield group. I sit under the fig trees next to the mid group each session.

Love the training reports and comments. But I think it is fanciful to look at a player who has been recruited as a defender and think he is going to be plonked forward based on your rationale. In contrast the club has had Hale putting time and effort into Taberner as a marking forward. How you rate players is interesting but I am comfortable with the assumption that the club is going to be playing the forwards as forwards. And until Hughes starts training as a forward you are just shooting the breeze. Why bother quoting me if you are going reverse edit it .
