Yes, this year it seems we actually get to vote for a board member. What a novel idea!

AGM is scheduled for December 17th.

The nomination deadline for candidates is November 1st, but as of today we know of two members who have officially declared their candidacy.

Christopher Raleigh - Intellectual Property lawyer with QUT, registered trade marks attorney and Sessional Academic with QUT Law School.

James Kliemt - Digital Media & Communications Strategist and Co-founder/Spokesperson of The Lion's Roar

I will wait for the Chairman to tell me who to vote for.

Found this interesting from the TLR release:

We anticipate a communique will be sent to our mailing list shortly after the November 1 nomination deadline with details of all known candidates and their respective election platforms. We urge all candidates who are interested in being included in this communique to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

Be interesting to see (a) how many positions are available, and (b) how many people nominate.

That's the position Cameron Milner's vacating, right?

Can't say I'm unhappy about him moving on.

I had a short chat to (I assume) Chris as he was handing out flyers at a lions game earlier in the year. Seemed like a pretty good bloke.

Haven't met James but I think he's got the runs on the board with TLR. The jumper thing was dead-batted by Holmes and co. for a long time, and looked dead in the water. Keeping it alive, let alone moving forward to a result was no mean feat.

He's probably unleashing autonomous voting drones from a volcano liar somewhere as we speak.

Dr Pinkyer?

Communications and member engagement is an area where the club has improved in the past 12 months, but someone of Kliemt's experience would be valuable to solidify it moving forward (particularly as TLR are largely responsible for forcing the club to start fixing it). Experience in large government organisations also a huge plus.

Will be good to finally have a vote for someone to be elected to the board, something that hasn't happened in far too long. Number of positions up for grabs will be interesting. Will be looking forward to receiving more info from all of the candidates about what they can bring experience and differentiation wise to the board.

Assuming Millner is going and the rest staying then we have the following breakdown

Sharpless - Chairman of Sprinfield land corp, property developer, civil engineer, MBA

Matthews - AFL player of the century, multiple premiership coach, media personality, all round legend of the sport

Power - Founder and Owner of BMD Group which is the largest private civil construction and development group in Australia.

McGregor - High level executive in the Finance Sector with CBA and lots of other companies previously

Wellington - Partner of PWC accountants providing corporate advisory services, former chair of FINSIA and played under 19's in the WAFL as well as coaching Junior football at Wests Juniors and acting as their Treasurer.

Kelly - Senior Lecturer in Marketing at UQ and director of its MBA program. Has had experience as a practicing Lawyer and a PHD in sports marketing and postdoctoral in psychology. Interestingly she's the only one on the board not listed as a long term lions fan (not that I have an issue with that at all, just thought it was worth mentioning)

So we have two property developers, two finance execs and an expert in marketing. Other subsets is that we have two with football experience (albeit with one at a lot higher level) as well as one with legal experience (although not sure on the depth)

Of the two known candidates we have one with extensive marketing and stakeholder management experience, especially in the use of social media and another who is a trademarks attorney and academic/lecturer at QUT who interestingly some time ago also wanted to join the Cronulla sharks board http://www.4bc.com.au/blogs/2013-4b...oard-must-go/20130319-2gdgk.html#.VE2igfmUdCw Wonder if he got elected?

I'm actually an Intellectual Property lawyer with QUT along with being a registered trade marks attorney and sessional academic with QUT Law School. My qualifications include having a Master of Intellectual Property Law from University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Laws from UQ, in addition to being an 18 year member of the Lions.

That was me mate, it was great to meet you along with all the other members I met when I handed out flyers around the country outside most Lions games.

Sorry mate, was just going on Hammo's words (shoulda known better in retrospect). Will edit the OP.

Candidates are fully welcome to post all they want about their qualifications and platform etc in here btw.

So nice to have genuine competition for spots for once instead of the revolving door of casual vacancies, specialist appointments and existing board members being "elected unopposed".

"Andrew will be part of a member vote at the Annual General Meeting later this year, along with Football Director Leigh Matthews, Peter McGregor and, as per the Club’s Constitution, one of either Cameron Milner or Mick Power AM"

Following this at the AGM:

Andrew Wellington will be standing for election to the board
Lethal will be standing for re-election
Peter McGregor will either stand down or seek re-election
Milner or Power will either stand down or seek re-election (but there was an "agreement" that Milner would stand down from the board in October 2014 as part of the agreement reached when Sharpless replaced Johnson on the board so would be very surprised if Milner now stood for re-election).

And (forgive my ignorance) how does it work? Two positions spill top two vote gatherers get the positions (presuming more than a two horse race).
