2015 Brisbane Lions Board Elections - Democracy comes to town Dec 17th

Let the mud slinging begin, hey?

Would much prefer if each candidate just focused on their own candidacy, to be honest. I don't think our club needs to get dragged through a nasty campaign.
I think I smell a hint of a coffee sponsorship? The article seems a massive beat up about a guy who happens to be a passionate Maroon and whose opinions are out there for all to judge. Love him or hate him, I know I would much prefer Di Bella on the board with his outstanding local contacts than respect the actions of David Thodey, a Kiwi, who puts Australians out of work on a weekly basis.

I just come on here to talk shit about footy. Please don't litter bigfooty with this crap about board elections etc.

It's a thread on politics acuguy... have some balls and post.

Well, I don't think Rizzler rocking up on bigfooty and becoming an avid poster has really been endearing to anyone. This Lions Roar crap, yep I said it crap, all they really did was jump up and down about a jersey. I mean I didn't even realise there was a difference between the jersey we wore in the premiership years to the one we wore post premiership. I guess football people don't give a shit about the fashion, they are more interested in the performance. Just saying!

If you are going to make it your policy to go into every thread that doesn't interest you, just to let people know, you better get cracking - it's a big site.

Maybe best to leave this thread to those that do care about the off field stuff. It might be worth considering that on field success in the absence of a stable and competent off field administration just doesn't happen on a regular basis no matter what the sport or size of club.

If this is a troll, brilliant. If on the other hand you genuinly noticed no difference in the jerseys that now explains you're inability to see Alby Proud running the wrong way game after game.

I agree acuguy - The Lions Roar are just getting the road of me watching AFL over the summer and I'm sick of hearing about them and their ability to express members' concerns. I'm particularly disappointed with the fact that since the jumper has returned to the original lion, members have been flapping their mouths about how the club is on the up.

I can't imagine someone worse than this James guy (probably misrepresenting a good name, as well) who seems to be able to gather and arrange members' concerns, and influence Club figures for pertinent issues to be brought to a vote.

WHAT'S THAT GOT TO DO WITH A DROP PUNT?!

I hear what you're saying, but if you look at a club like port, their on field success followed significant off field change (new, influential president, member chosen jumper etc). suddenly they went from afl whipping boy, selling off seats to advertising and at risk of losing Kerry players, to "the best live experience in the league" and a location of choice for coaching staff and free agents. coincidence?

I must commend you, usually your grammar and spelling really suffer when posting a drunken rant, well done.

I agree, and that time when The Lions Roar were handing out fliers, I got one and was reading it, and as a result got disctracted on my walk into the ground and missed out on getting those inflatable stick bangerer together things that go flat by the end of the third quarter and then you can't find the straw to reinflate them so you just let em fall under your chair like a flaccid and pathetic used horse prophylactic, I was ropeable and i blame TLR

I also support a more representative board, so long as the views it represents are mine

You sure the flier didn't also bash your uncle at the 2003 GF? ;)

My sarcasm tags didn't work :(

I wouldn't pretend to know the ins and outs of the Board, but it is pretty obvious that it DOES matter who is driving the bus.

Witness the huge difference Swann has made in next to no time. I know Swann isn't on the Board but presumably someone up top picked him up, albeit at AFL insistence.

The more muscle the better, IMHO.

We could also do with a bit more financial sponsorship too, and I gather this is Swann's forte. I look forward to continuing good news there. Especially if we are in the market for blokes like Carlisle. Nice to be the hunter for a change.

We might dislike Eddie, but let's face it, there is a fair amount of envy in this. We need our own Eddie.

Perhaps when your thinking cap is back on, you might like to explain where this came from.

I was most surprised to read such a post from you acuguy.

Greg Swann has been a regular on SEN for quite a while, which is where I reluctantly started to like him. He was always light hearted and funny in his segments with KB, made lots of sense on things of a serious nature etc. A guy who you couldn't help but like.

Eddie does not give off those sentiments.

We have our "Eddie". and I'm glad it is Greg Swann. He will achieve just as much as the other one, only do it in a more acceptable manner.

A good way to get a dysfunctional board is to appoint inexperienced people that are out of their depth, thus making board activity and debate at a high level difficult to achieve.

It's a great way to get the high quality board members off side, as they feel like they are part of a circus.

All due respect to a guy from a supporter activist group, but these are no the sorts you want at board level I'm afraid. You sure as hell don't find these sorts of folks on the boards of the most successful (off-field) clubs.

Its akin to getting the Motoring Enthusiasts Party a senate seat.

Grass roots activism doesn't necessarily preclude someone from being competent in a board sense. Looking at his other credentials should be a determining factor and arguably the activism demonstrates a greater understanding of the soul of the club. At the end of the day being a successful board is about getting the right executive team in so it just becomes a matter of rubber-stamping and oversight. With the expansion of the size of the board diversity becomes a strength.

This post in a nutshell reminds me of the business that I recruit for "we want a junior apprentice but he must have 3 years experience"
