2015 Brisbane Lions Board Elections - Democracy comes to town Dec 17th

...and how about the Queensland tennis centre at Yeronga. My point being I have no information about alternative venues and their pros and cons. It is still a mystery issue and while Bob Sharpless holds dual positions with Lions and Springfield Land Corp there will be suspicion around this issue.
Plenty of background & discussion about alternative sites here; http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/new-facilities-update-springfield-doa.1062473/
All board members hold a dual position (gotta have a day job). As TBD mentioned, Springfield is all but dead, and the new CEO, board members and a bit more transparency should keep it in check.

Giffen is also just too small, and would have to be shared not just with Coorparoo JAFC but Coorparoo SHS. I also recall someone mentioning that it is an old dump so major works are unlikely to get approval without some super serious engineering.

Oh and old pet cemetery.

And bats. Creepy little bastards in the creek wanting to pass on their Hendra Virus.
Haunted. Lawn grubs have already eaten half the playing surface. It's a sign.:straining:

Yep this had been extensively covered in that thread, dooglyblack might be worth your time having a look over there to get a bit of background on a few of the options. FWIW no-ones disagreeing with you that the whole Sharpless as director has left a bitter taste in people's mouths given the way it happened and the probable (although speculative) motived behind it. I think that a chairman of the board should never be allowed to just be put in place for years without being elected (nor any board member). Interim maybe in the event of someone stepping down but never more than past the next AGM thats for sure.

Just if you're going to start posting on a subject may be worth a) getting your facts right (re timing of decisions etc) and b) perhaps doing a bit of research to see if something has been covered extensively already.

cheers

Thanks for the tips. Maybe I could send my opinion to you first to see if it ok to post.
I was talking about info from the club - not personal forums - but I will definitely check out the conversation.

Yeah, it pains me to defend the guy.
dooglyblack , I agree with some of your sentiment, but it diminishes the argument if blame is laid unfairly/incorrectly.;)

Don't need any Ghost Mutt's at training thank you very much.

Aye, just PM me your posts in future & I'll run the rule over them.

it helps to send Tairy Greene your password as well.
If he asks for your date of birth and a photo though he's just trying to pick you up.

Along similar lines don't open any image attachments he sends you.

Bullshit, I saw that you opened that attachment multiple times!!

God let's hope no Lions Board ever tries to do what Carlton are trying to do now - introduce a mandatory vetting of Board candidates by a Board sub-committee. How about that for democracy? (More than a bit similar to what China does in Hong Kong - which is what the protests are about by the way).

Just once. The rest will be from the grindr profile I set up for you.

You're welcome.

I did wonder why I was having so much success lately ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah ok, thats a great way to respond to someone trying to help you out with your questions/statements. Pointed out I had no problem with your opinion, rather just your statements about a few things. There's a difference between the two so if you're going to pose one as the other don't be shocked if someone replies back.

.
No need. Maybe spend a week here before telling people to stick their friendly advice.;)

I think this is fairly reasonable;http://www.lions.com.au/news/2014-10-03/update-from-the-board
To protect and respect the sensitivity of confidential negotiations, the review committee will not be making public the other options at this stage until specifics are finalised.

We would ask members to respect that position.

The review committee – and the Board – is fully aware how important this issue is to you, and we are committed to keeping you updated throughout the process.

As Greg told the Members Forum, the Club wants to bring everybody along with us so there are no surprises.

Moving forward, the review committee needs, and asks, for the trust of our supporters to empower us to make the best decisions for the Club’s future.

That will allow us to come back with the best option for the entire Club – players, coaches, administration staff, sponsors and members.

At this stage, we would like to re-affirm that no Directors with an interest in any of the final options for the facility will participate in the final Board vote of the issue.
Whilst we all want as much info as possible, we can't expect the club to check with us on each decision, nor tell us each thought process.

Yep, especially as we have state election looming. There will understandably be a period of radio silence as the club explores and negotiates politically sensitive funding possibilities.

I want transparency as much as anyone, but we have to be pragmatic in our expectations.

IIRC the club has officially communicated this stuff publicly.

Thanks. I caught this when it was released however since I have seen no specifics on actual venues. I understand the club has asked supporters to trust the sub-committee and it appears in good hands but as I have said - a simple page on the website listing pros and cons of potential venues looks like a cheap and informative step.
(p.s Good reading on the other post board re this)

I agree with this in theory, but timing is important. There would be a significant amount of ducks and drakes at play in the negotiations commercially and with government. It is not wise to play your hand too early.

It won't be as simple as Site A > Site B > Site C at this stage. There is significant complexity involved. Each site will have its challenges. Some may require teaming up with other sporting bodies for example to be viable. Some might be preferred by the Government but not the club, but the club might have to play along for a while as a matter of good faith and/or strategy.

I suspect we will get such transparency at some stage, but it will have to be after the fact. It's just the way these things work.

The AGM has been put back to a 7pm start because of the Gabba test on the 17th. As this is a Match day the Parking Area the restrictions will apply until 10pm. Looks like its Public transport or attempt to park where you normally would for a Lions match.

Or buy cricket tickets and make a day of it. ;)
