Or is that tomorrow, complaining on why we didn't select player x :)
Tonight there will be threads all over this place about which team "won the draft" without any shred of evidence to back up all the claims and the general consensus being that the team with the most first round picks probably won.

It makes for very interesting reading.

As for us, today is like Christmas early. We get to unwrap our new presents, full of potential and spraying out platitudes like: "So happy to be here" and "I want to work hard and earn the respect of my team mates" blah blah blah. I'm a stats girl. Can he run? Can he run sideways? Can he jump? Can he catch the ball? Can he kick? Prove it.

I have my eye on a few but my heart set on none, if I were a list manager I'd be reaching for what I needed to fit the holes in my list model but that is why someone else gets paid the big bucks.

Taylor just running through some casual scenarios.

Listened to Shifter Sheahan on 6PR last night, who said that Ryan Clarke is expected to be around Freo & West Coast's 1st selection. Suggested both clubs would be interested in him. FWIW.

Why does everyone predict us to pick a half back flanker with our first pick? We have numerous people who can play that role

Many thanks to all who have added to our knowledge of some of the potential draftees, it's almost as exciting as Christmas night when I was a kid waiting to see what gifts get left for you after you gave Santa a rather wishful list. You knew you might get some of what you wanted if you aimed high enough but were always pragmatic enough to be thankful for what you did get.

Also many thanks to the Suns for an early gift in Harley Benell. Everything else will be a bonus.

All our picks are not going to be jets but if we can pick up another player in this draft who becomes a best 22 in the near term I would be reasonably happy. And our ability to find diamonds in the rough is pretty good....so exciting times ahead.

:eek::eek::eek: Yes they are dammit, didn't you get the memo?

I love draft day, love the drama, love the excitement, there is always a couple of 'surprises' that sends everybody into a meltdown. Love the trade period as well, someone else's trash becomes another's treasure. These are the best times of the year on BF, it's hilarious.

And yes, while I believe best available has served us well and I always thought that it would help us with trading for a KP, clearly it hasn't, no one wants to leave. Time to change tactic.

GWS fans brought up a good point during the trade period, that we are desperate for key forwards, and every team knows that. So even if we are dead sure McCarthy, Hogan or any other forwards wants to come to us, every team will do a GWS and ask way over for them unless we rectify the situation.
It'll be fantastic if we get someone good, but I'll settle for someone serviceable for the time being.

Yup. While I think 'best available' is generally a good policy, we are seriously depleted at KPF and we need suspend that temporary and do 'best tall available'.

Yep, that's why I went with Brown for our first pick. We've got some good options of small - mid with pace coming through on our list, so now we need to fill the KPP void and we need someone that can play in 2016 if we're any chance of pushing for a flag.

Not trolling here guys just after some discussion from Freo fans on Mason Shaw.

I know post de listing from the Power there was a lot of chatter around that Fremantle were interested in him via late national or rookie draft and FWIW I think he'd be an ideal pick up for you guys. Just wondering what the latest info on him going to Fremantle is? Being out of the WA footy loop I've heard nothing more about it since really the few days post when he was de listed.

Zip, nada, FFC not going there..

Categorically ruling it out? From other discussions I've had it seems like there is more of a focus on getting Sandringham's Mitch Brown in. Thanks for clarifying and happy draft day

I'm not convinced that Brown is able to play as a key position player, more of a roaming tall but everyone is adaptable.

Decent talls on the list and average midfield, draft a bunch of midfielders. Not many talls on the list and a bunch of midfielders, some of which can't get a game and are stuck at Peel, draft midfielders.

In all honesty, they need to take the punt on some talls again, like we have with Pearce, Tabs, Apeness. I'm sure the club are across it.

Can someone explain to me why a key position back is the lock for pick 1?

Just wondering why Schache isnt going number 1, Carlton aren't exactly blessed with tall forwards and I don't remember a KPB ever being drafted with pick 1.

It's just i'd take a gun forward over a gun back any day of the week. Someone even compared it to being like Rance versus Franklin to which I'd take Franklin any day of the week.
