What a farce the VFL is.
the VFL records say Sandy won the flag In 2000.
It doesnt say Melbourne did.
Besides from good experience for some kids a nice reward for a few of our ex players its still Sandy going for a flag not the Saints.
I really hope they do well and ill be very happy to see them win but it wont compare one little bit to our own stand alone VFL team having success IMO.

It's crap as Sandy are top 2 due to Saints players yet because the seniors have stopped they hinder the chance of the team. Box Hill will have a clear run.

Blake Acres

Blake has a fracture in the base of his right thumb. He has already had surgery so we expect him to have an uninterrupted pre-season.

Jack Billings

Jack has that stress fracture in his left tibia. He is due to start running in about a month and we will take our time with him. He will be available for round one.

Tom Curren

Tom has recovered fully from his left ankle fracture and returned to the VFL on the weekend.

Luke Delaney

Luke has progressed well with his left hip rehab in 2015. He had an arthroscopy on it at the end of last year and we are expecting him to do a full-preseason for the first time.

Sam Fisher

Sam missed four weeks with a hamstring strain in the middle of the year but finished the season strongly. He’ll continue to work hard on his leg strength this pre-season.

Jarryn Geary

Jarryn had groin surgery last week and is recovering well. He will be off running for four weeks and then have a graduated build into a full pre-season.

Tom Hickey

Tom had patella tendon surgery at the end of last year. He did well to play a full season in 2015. He will do his normal loading for this and have a full summer on the track which is great for Tom.

Tom Lee

Tom had an ankle reconstruction. He’s in the rehabilitation stage and is progressing well. We expect him to be ready to go by the time pre-season starts.

Billy Longer

Billy had a right shoulder reconstruction just over two weeks ago. He will undergo formal rehab and be available to do the full component of running over the summer. He won’t do much contact work before Christmas.

Paddy McCartin

Paddy had finger surgery on his right ring finger two weeks ago. He’s progressing well and is certain to do a full pre-season.

Daniel McKenzie

Daniel had a couple of concussions this year but he’s ok and is playing VFL at the moment.

Daniel Markworth

Daniel missed the first half of the season following a shoulder reconstruction. He’s recovered from that and is playing some good VFL footy at the moment.

Tim Membrey

Tim dislocated his right shoulder in a training mishap with two weeks to go in the season. He’s also had a reconstruction along the lines of Billy Longer. He won’t do contact drills until the new year but will be fine to run before Christmas.

Brodie Murdoch

Brodie had back stiffness earlier in the year but he’s fine.

Brenton Payne

Brenton had a high ankle sprain late in the season. This is normally an eight week injury so it won’t impact his pre-season.

Nick Riewoldt

Nick will spend the next couple of months in the USA. He always has a modified pre-season which works well for him. He will start running around Christmas time and will build towards the NAB Challenge. He does a strong off legs program prior to Christmas consisting of weights and cross training.

Dylan Roberton

Dylan played almost every game. It was a fantastic effort and he’ll have some time off now before a full pre-season.

Seb Ross

Seb had a left hamstring rupture in the NAB Challenge and missed a couple of months. He completed the back half of the season and won’t have an interrupted summer.

Arryn Siposs

Arryn has done really well after returning from a left shoulder reconstruction. He’s ok and playing some really good VFL now. He worked exceptionally hard in his rehab to get himself back.

Eli Templeton

Eli had a left hamstring strain late in the year but has recovered and is in good shape now.

Jimmy Webster

Jimmy had some groin pain late in the year but only missed one game. He will rest now and be fine for the pre-season.

Spencer White

Spencer had a left fibula fracture so he won’t take part in the VFL finals.

Nathan Wright

Nathan fractured his left middle finger late in the year and had surgery. It won’t impact on his pre-season.

Players with no injury concerns:

Jack Billings still won't be running for another month and by the sounds of it won't have much of a pre season as they only say 'He will be available for round one'.
Anyone know of the longterm effects of this type of injury? Is it something he can fully recover from?

Without me being an expert.
Gilbo had stress fractures in his feet. He got back on the track eventually. Probably the feet is a worse spot than a tibia.
Goose Maguire had stress fractures, probably as a result of coming back too soon after his horrible break. Eventually he overcame this issue.

Hopefully Billings fractures are minor and they are being ultra conservative.
 
Didn't Simpkin and Bruce also have stress reaction in their legs? As far as I know they are both fixed now.

None of them will be running for another month as they're all on holidays. Stop worrying so much.

Your typical Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints) is a bit of a landline when it comes to trying to predict any sort of timeframe, as there's just such a broad range of variability in cases. The fact that Jack has stress fractures is somewhat of a worry, as it shows how advanced his case is, but you could also take solace in the fact that we know have conclusive "proof" on imaging for his leg, and in general as far as fractures are concerned, thus we can get a good sense of how he is recovering from the stress fractures, which could hopefully be applied to his MTSS as a whole.

There's really no secret trick to it; keep him off legs until long after the fractures have healed, gradually introduce workload in controllable increments, and play close attention to the biomechanics of his running style, with the aim of eliminating problematic habits, such as over pronation in his foot.

Then again, just ask Rors - I'm only in training :D

To be honest, the fact that the MTSS resulted in an actual stress fracture has me seriously concerned. The hot spots or stress reactions can be hard enough to resolve but the fact that it fractured.... Hmmm

I would be treading very carefully with him over preseason & possibly even having him scanned every fortnight just to keep things monitored thoroughly.

Hopefully the club has employed a biomechanist to help with modifying running gait & also a podiatrist for custom orthotics. You would expect him to be on a complex modified program.

Would love to know his foot type. Majority of guys I see with MTSS have pes cavus foot type (high arch) & thus have reduced shock attentuation upon impact with the ground.

While I'm concerned, I don't think it will be an ongoing issue once the right precautions & modifications are made to his training, while also implementing the use of an orthotic & possibly other rehab modalities (maybe he could invest in a pair of Roo's moon pants :D )

You should submit a job application to the club. I'll be a reference if you need it. :D
 
Was talking to Andrew Wallis today - this won't make the papers but is a big signature for us - he has just signed a 3 year contract extension. Jack Billings and co. are in very, very good hands.
