Yeah, the umpiring was, um, interesting, to say the least.

Cannot wait 'til they insert 4 senior umps into the NEAFL - such an inconsistent diversity in interpretations already. :(

[but as they say in the classics - they've gotta get experience somehow]

The Ainslie Football Club has withdrawn from the North East Australian Football League, a move which leaves Eastlake as Canberra's only team in the second-tier competition

This is probably the death knell for ACT involvement in the NEAFL. It was already hard to imagine an Eastlake team continuing. Ainslie have been the more powerful of the two clubs, and the gap appeared to be slowly growing.

Eastlake don't seem to be getting much out of being in the NEAFL in terms of support or sponsorship, and in any case their business model is based more on being a pokies venue than a footy club. I don't think Ainslie leaving will see much support of any kind shift to Eastlake.

The ACT's two most famous clubs will now only play each other at reserves level, and I doubt that'll last for long. Expect Eastlake to drop out at the end of 2016, and the NEAFL to need yet another structural change.

Wonder what the strategic vision for the reserves grade /academy is for AFL. Could be good if/when all clubs have academies if we had a national reserves/academy competition.

Would really build the excitement for draft day after watching players develop for a few seasons in this comp similar to college system in American sports.

Entertaining game. Certainly better than BT and Ling whispering at each other in the North Melbourne change rooms.

Great finish in the Grand Final.

EDIT: Thunder win by 1 point. Great effort by Aspley to make it a contest after being down by 23 at 3/4 time. Hipwood finished up with 11 disposals (8 kicks), 4 marks and 2.1. Moves pretty well for a guy that's 200cm.

Took a great contested mark in a pack in the last QTR, looking forward to seeing him next year.

Hipwood was terrific from what I saw. He competes really hard for someone with such a slender build. He has that competitive edge that seems to really lack with a lot of these 195-200+ KPP's coming through the ranks. He will be a great get for us once he puts a little bit on and gets stuck into pre season.
