Dicko said will have at least one more week. Not looking forward to playing up North though haha!

Stanley is ok after getting knocked out early. Copped a decent concussion that had him with the fairies for a while but he believes he will be up for next week. Legs fine for him!

Josh Glenn was awesome today, natural footballer and uses the ball well

Booksby was good too, and 2MP certainly did a power of running, I am flabagasted that a team of part time players ( no offence to Aspley) can use the ball better and outrun a team of professional footballers, the margin in the end flattered us

Aspley v Gold Coast at Graham Rd

ASPLEY 5.2 10.3 13.7 18.11 (119)
GOLD COAST 4.0 5.4 10.7 16.9 (105)

GOALS – Aspley: J Nelis 3 M Payne 3 E Sansbury 3 A Hughes 2 R Holman C Stiller N Jackson M Little J Daye R Toye C French. Gold Coast: C Dixon 3 J Glenn 2 P Wright 2 L Russell L Herbert J Leslie J Hall K Emery H Fraser D Charlesworth.
BEST – Aspley: M Payne R Holman G Grose J Nelis J Wagner E Mallan. Gold Coast: n/a.

Gold Coast gave the defending premier a scare before two late goals steered the Hornets to a 14-point win at Graham Rd.

The Hornets were as much as 42 points clear in the third before the Suns came flying home to get within two at the 28-minute mark of the last.

It took two late goals from Adam Hughes and Eddie Sansbury to seal the win for Aspley and continue the Suns’ 20-game losing streak in the NEAFL.

The Suns were hampered early when Jack Stanley came off with concussion in the first quarter and Charlie Dixon’s ankle was put on ice in the last after kicking three goals.

Aspley took control of the match in the middle quarters, extending their eight-point quarter-time lead to 29 at half-time and started the third with three of the first four goals.

Gold Coast cut the margin to 17 at the last change before a see-sawing final quarter.

Aspley coach John Blair said it was pleasing to see his players fight back when tested.

“The Suns had a pretty good side in and both teams, to their credit, really fought the day out hard and at no stage ever gave up,” he said.

“We gave away a lot of height, especially around the centre clearances. It was a hard day and you had to attack from defence rather than from the centre circle.

“We knew they would be good and we were looking forward to the challenge of playing an AFL side and seeing how we went, especially with all the new guys that we have, so it was good.”

Matt Payne was again outstanding for the Hornets collecting 32 disposals, nine clearances, six inside 50s, and three goals, and set up Sansbury for the sealer.

The Suns had plenty of contributors with Josh Glenn leading the way with 32 disposals, eight clearances, ten inside 50s and two goals. Luke Russell and Andrew Raines (28 disposals each) were also solid.

Josh Fraser has now coached this team to 20 losses in a row - amazing!!

Hope Dicko didn't re-injure his ankle again and it was just a precaution / maintenance thing. Doesn't sound like he's ready for a full AFL match if he only lasted three quarters in the NEAFL.

And who is this Jack Stanley character??

He was one the original GC17 players from the TAC Cup and vfl side. Good local footballer

speaking about Zorko and how we gave him to the Lions ( what a terrible decision) , there is a guy in the NEAFL, playing for Aspley, that is a absolute gun, and he chewed our ressies up this past weekend.. His name is Matt Payne.. is a decorated player winning all sorts of awards over the past few years, .... how he hasn't been given a chance by the Suns or Lions astounds me. hes proberly about 27 now,,, but geez , ??????

To add, he is a better player then Josh Glenn and Mitch Hallinan.

Perhaps people should lay off the neafl bashing then. It is a high standard and some of those guys are as good or better as some of the spuds on afl lists.

Certainly on Sundays performance I would have to agree.

Not that I am trolling here - But is Raines not in that age era (only difference in this scenario is Matt Payne has not got 1 x AFL game under his belt, Rainsey has more than a few). - I have always been flabbergasted how Matt Payne can win so many B&F awards within his Club and chosen Competitions and there is so many spuds that have been drafted across the spectrum of the AFL, that would not fit in his shadow. THE SUNS RESERVES ARE NOT FAR AWAY BASED ON LAST WEEKS GAME - ITS THE MOST PRESSURE ASPLEY HAS HAD APPLIED TO THEM, APART FROM IN LAST YEARS G/F FOR QUITE ALONG TIME AND IT NEARLY COST US. THANK GOD FOR MATTY PAYNE.

Looked at the Suns list for the game last Saturday and it appeared there were 15 listed Sun's players and 7 top up players. Danny Stanley apparently replaced during the first quarter due to concussion and Charlie Dixon played three quarters before being rested.

It sounds like a good effort by the listed players when you consider the actual make up of the side.
