That was over a year ago. I could improve my beep test plenty if you gave me 14months and a season in the wafl

Yes, I'm not saying his fitness hasn't improved since then, but coming from such a low base it's an area of concern.. which is no doubt why he went later in the rookie draft

I use to get 10.5ish on the beep test and that use to be in the lower half at my school... We had a few run 15+ (one is a footballer now)

I think people are quick to take a negative view on a player before they actually know anything about them other than rumours.
To those saying 'I got (insert number here) in a beep test at school', you guys should probably be made aware that there are actually different beep test versions available.

Most of the time the beep tests used in a PE class will be significantly easier than the ones used for military, firefighters and professional athletes.

You shouldn't judge combine beep tests against the ones you did in high school. They're likely to be different.

Adjusted to make us feel better ? 10.5 use to be low, I use to bump on up to 11 when someone asked what I got

I think your fighting a worthy fight Apex, however I would concede on this one. Regardless of whether a high school beep test is easier or not 8.11 in comparison with your peers when you have aspirations on a professional career is abysmal.

To put another spin on it I'm currently studying Commerce and the equivilant of Abbott's 8.11 beep would be me sitting an exam which resulted in a sub 20% score. I'm sure your not meaning to, but it's coming across that your just defending it for argumemts sake (to me anyway).

From everything I've read of Abbott it's seems he would be the first to admit it was pathetic so he has no doubt worked on it and come out the other end better for it :thumbsu:

I always thought there was only one beep test.....standard 20m run back and forth. Never heard of any different versions.... And my mate did a firefighter test when he got into the CFA and said it was a standard beep test

Oh, I'm not trying to say that 8'11 is in any way good for a prospective AFL player, it just irks me that people are trying to compare their high school tests to the combine one without even knowing whether it's an equivalent test.

On top of that, the test was in 2013 when Abbott has conceded, he was way out of shape due to his circumstances. It would be nice to know what he can currently do, but he wasn't tested this year unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for us if he turns into a gun and other clubs overlooked him because of his previous fitness records ;))

Funnily enough, I have a mate who went for a job in the MFB. He thought he would cruise through the beep test, but then they gave him a version on CD to practice with which was completely different to the one he had done previously. He said they were basically sprinting by the mid 8's.
Then they used an easier one for the actual test for some weird reason, but he said it was still more difficult than the one he did in high school.

Remember the discussion about PK doing bad in the time trial. How we all jumped to conclusions. Turned out he had gastro, probably shouldn't have even done it but insisted. Understandably did poorly.
Just saying we don't know the circumstances behind the beep test result. Also as apex has pointed out on a number of occasions that was in 2013. He has played a full season of football since then. I would imagine if he was to do a beep test now we would see a very different result.

Ok i'll try be more positive

As a last point, being is the gym isn't really the issue, by all reports he is already huge.

I like picking him, but he needs to spend months and months just running

Gym work isn't all about being 'huge'. Being strong is a vital fitness component. It will actually help his running enormously.

Thanks for making the 5.2 I got at school sound even worse :(

Just came from the training session. Seedsman has definitely bulked up and Freeman is looking a cut above the rest. He was standing out in every drill and simulation.
