So much for the outrage over Adcock not being offered a contract and 17 other clubs wanting to sign him.
If he's already been delisted wouldn't other clubs be wanting to pick him up as a delisted free agent rather than trade for him. They could get him for free.

I don't think we can officially delist him until October 31st.

Traded players are able to join their new club earlier than DFA so if he had interest somewhere we would've traded him

Pretty happy with out trade period. We've picked up some more mature bodies which includes a young QLD boy who loves our club and Forward/ruck that will help take the heat of our younger guys. 'actually really keen to see how Bastinac goes. I think he will prove to be a bargain pick up and will really be huge for us. We also made sure we have enough points for our two man academy kids plus picked up additional points for next season.

Phew! It's quite convoluted, isn't it? I believe our recruiting team are doing those type of permutations as we speak.

That seems pretty accurate without me doing the actual sums. It will make for a VERY interesting Draft Night, that's for sure.

Our recruiters (and fans alike) will no doubt be hoping the Sydney and GWS boys have their Academy players bid on first. If Hipwood/Keays get bid on first, then I suspect we'll be going into deficit.

Victorian-based fans can get along to our special Draft Night on Tuesday 24 November (http://s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/BrisbaneLions/Links/PDF/Draft Night Flyer & Booking.pdf) to ride the emotional wave that is the AFL National Draft along with Club recruiters and fellow supporters.

I think my favourite part will be being able to use the same pick twice in two separate occasions. Bet Eddie didn't see that coming when he started his whinging. Tomorrows mock draft using the new software will be interesting. I'm guessing they will be re-doing last years draft, it will be like one of those useless bigfooty threads come to life!!

on the bolded I think we'll be safe. If you're going to bid on an academy player as a melb club then you're probably going to go for the two riverina boys given home is almost closer to Melb than it is to sydney. Mills will get one just because he's a jet.

Bummed its only in melbourne, otherwise i would be there nerding the crap out of it.

Oh yeah, they test out the software tomorrow. Pick #1. Jack Watts just for gags.

Is this the mock draft that the 18 AFL clubs are participating in to get use to the new bidding system?

I'm going to that..... Anyone else interested?

I have a feeling it's going to be a lot less interesting if we only take three list spots into the draft as seems possible. ;)

Yeah that's true... What if we delist another couple of players though... Then it's game on. It seems like we shopped Bewick around... Wonder if we're considering delisting him?

Does anyone understand why we're rated a C- on fox and I think Terry Wallace rated us a C something (I don't know I started listening right at the end) for our trade performance? Do they factor in any of the factors impacting the club or the points we've picked up?... Seems a bit harsh. I would've rated us a B at least (giving Aish what he wanted let it down). Thought it was a really solid trade period

The AFL website has something similar and possibly even more stupid.

I'd give us a C but I'd be much more harsh on other clubs like Collingwood.

I haven't looked specifically but in general they just look at ins and outs and overall draft picks. They don't factor in Aish walking out - they just assume the alternative was to retain him. They probably also don't factor in the academy bidding. Who knows what they think we could do better.

Edit: Should clarify that I'd probably give us a C as well though. Basically achieved what we needed and wanted to. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes I was using the ease with which they were judged as my basis... I think we came in and did what we had to do, the judgement for 2015 will go up in 2-3 years I suspect

That makes sense... I mean, as a way of marking clubs it doesn't make sense but that's lazy sports journalism for you

It's what happens when you look at the trades in isolation of the draft for academy clubs. Picking up ~700 points enables us to match bids for Hipwood/Keays that we would not have been able to do before the trade period. Same issue with the summary they have of GWS who they give a C-. With the trades GWS has made, they'll pick up Kennedy as well as loading up on points for next year.

I'd give us a C+ to almost a B- since we've setup for the 2015 & 2016 draft's out of this trade period on top of the players we brought in.

There was a new corp article earlier that criticised us and GWS for trading out players for lots of crap low picks. But said Sydney had done well under their circumstances for getting enough points to cover academy kids. :drunk:
bullshit... i'm pretty sure GWS would have held onto Treloar if they had an option.

For me, GWS have killed it since their introduction. They loaded up on young guns, slowly bringing in some experienced players that don't cost them much, and now trading out some players they can't hang onto while still holding onto a strong core. This season they'll pick up another pair of quality kids, and head into next years draft already holding 3 x 1st round picks and 2 x 2nd round picks (including their own). Obviously football is not all about winning the trade/draft period, but damn it helps. Obviously they had a massive leg-up from the AFL, but they get a gold star for working the system to the limit. I can see them rolling on with the strategy until the premiership window opens, and then unload massive offers and trades to get in players that will help get them over the line.

Exactly. Shocks me that journalists still don't understand that GWS have been losing some (but keeping the overwhelming majority of the ones they want to keep) high quality draftees each year as a deliberate strategy to maintain dominance in the draft for the better part of a decade. They've probably got points for hopper and kennedy, and if not they can wear the deficit as they already have 3 2016 first round picks. Really quality list management when you also factor in them at the same time bringing in experienced players like Shaw, Griffen, Patfull and Johnson (etc) to add maturity. They've done a way better job than Gold Coast.

Added some depth and maturity that was sorely needed in particular roles, paid for what we needed to in the draft, helped ourselves set up for next year's academy crop and got some high level talent with Keays, Hipwood and Scache. We haven't given up that much either. This was a really positive couple of weeks for the club.

Yep, it was a very solid trade period for us. Ticked the most important boxes. The guys in the media have a job to do, they have to write about something.

In all truth I don't think a hell of a lot separates any of the clubs during trade period, they only have so much they can do depending on their circumstances. Geelong looks great as they recruited Dangerfield, but he wanted to come home, it was hardly a masterstroke of trade week genius. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

My favourite trade week memories are the Mitch Clark trade to Melbourne rather than Freo & the year when we off loaded Justin Sherman to the Doggies for pick 25 ;) **

** Unfortunately we used that pick on Karnezis :(

Aside from Cameron, I think GC picked the more talented players on the whole. Just goes to show, talent isn't everything. O'Meara might never recover from this injury if some reports are to be believed, Bennel went off the rails, Dixon's ankles are stuffed, Martin is yet to get an extended run at it etc etc. Could've been a scary side if everything worked out. But they took a lot of chances in the draft(although they didn't have as many free hits as GWS) and didn't end up with as many players who've retained enough value to be traded out for further high draft picks.
