I'd like to think that every club has them, but reading the responses to any post from the Hawthorn page on facebook is a quick reminder that the world is full of deadshits.
To be fair that could be said for all posts on facebook.
the place is a cesspit

Talented where.. In the Juniors/

Needs to show a bit to deserve the hype IMO

Did you watch his first year in the AFL?
Finished 4th in the rising star....had a very good first year, not so much 2nd year. Surely you're not writing of a 2nd year player after a poor season.
He wouldn't be my first choice........but the kid does have talent.

Aish definitely has potential and would be a good signing. Don't let being in the Lions woeful system detract from an otherwise talented player. Polec played a lot of NEAFL in his time at Brisbane and then did really well for Port last year. Brisbane is where talent goes to die.

Rhys Palmer won a Rising Star
Your point?
Rioli came second in that year. Rising star has been remarkably accurate predictor of future talent despite the terrible selection process.

Plenty of reasons why Aish did not play as well this year but had you watched him last year you would have seen one of the most promising young players in the comp. I would love for him to become a Hawk.

Polec's performance was a matter for Polec not the Lions. Big sook.

Fair enough, but I actually disagree
I dont see much to be excited about

Yeah, such a team first attitude that he's leaving the club. Plenty of kids from bad backgrounds who became great when they got the right help and support. Bennell has far more potential upside, would come at a lower cost and has potentially more years of footy in him. Glad we aren't going to get Danger - because the money he would consume from our cap would be obscene.

Bennell is also potentially one bad decision away from never playing another game at AFL level.

If anyone noticed Dangerfield's game on Friday night then he is the exact prototype of the player we need both short and long term.

Dangerfield is the exact prototype of the player EVERY team need both short and long term
No question
Is he a realistic chance of ending up at Hawthorn?
If not, what is our next best option?

Our list is in major need of class midfielders......... Class, not depth

We do a pretty good job at keeping players who make bad decisions under control. We used to have a pretty handy CHF who was a fairly deplorable person off the field - the club was able to keep him out of trouble most of the time. I have no doubt we could do the same with Bennell.

Dangerfield coming to the Hawks is probably less than 5% a realistic chance of happening - Bennell probably better than 50% depending on what other Melbourne clubs are circling (if he is convinced to stay out of WA for his own sake). Danger would likely cost 3 times as much too. If we can get Bennell then it will be a massive win for the club.

My point is that you have stated he hasn't shown any talent at AFL level
When did I state this?
Please quote
Once again someone on these threads has a differing opinion to you and then you proceed to make things up
You have a history of this
Discuss intelligently or don't bother

Dayle Garlett is now behind bars for 4 years. It is completely up to the individual to pull his head in...the club can only do so much.
Whole heartedly agree that we are only an extremely minor chance of landing Dangerfield, if any. I do see an offer coming once our season is over though.

I'm starting to lean the way of stockpiling draft picks for a crack at Jaeger O'Meara next year, just not sure how yet.

A month or so ago there was talk of Sam Day wanting out of Gold Coast. As our season has gone I think we have found a few more holes in our list long term than just our ageing midfield. Day can play at either end of the ground and would be a nice get.

All speculation for another few weeks yet. When the dust settles on the season we'll know who is actually available and there might be a few more surprises pop up along the way like Cam McCarthy has in recent times.

I can see Clarko being a fan of Trent McKenzie. He is said to be available and if Suckling leaves as a free agent there would be a position on our list up for grabs as a link up player off half back. Dan Howe could be the man for that spot but the club were hoping he could transition into the midfield when they drafted him.

Will Tim O'Brien and Ryan Shoenmakers both be on our list next year??? I think we are in need of an immediate upgrade on at least one of them....someone who can make a 2nd KPF position spot their own. Gunston has become more of a roamer of late and Roughie has been thrown on ball from time to time.
This is where my Sam Day theory comes into play.

I'd like to see Dangerfield in Hawks colours but it's a pipe dream. It would be nice to see Bennell running around for us but will we take the risk given our need to sure up our future? He could literally end up anywhere next season and could be deemed too big a risk particularly if we need to give uo our first round pick...even in a weak draft.

O'Meara would be my prime "trade" target now for this year and/or next and Sam day would be next "IF" he is actually available.
Michael Talia is keen on a move away from the Bulldogs but Sydney are said to have already offered him a deal.

Aish has been mentioned and we are hearing the Hawks are keen but we are behind a few in the queue. I only see him in the O'Rourke category on talent, or just slightly above.

Completely agree that we need star quality but we seriously need to start drafting our own. I know there are no guarantees with the draft but we have to give ourselves every chance otherwise we will drop away very quickly once this era is over.
It's been great trading for such quality established players over the last few years but that won't go on forever (although it is Wrighty so who knows).

Birchall in 2004, Cyril in 2007, Breust in 2008 and Smith in 2010 are the most proven and most talented players we have drafted in the last 10 years (with an honourable mention to Josh Kennedy F/S 2006). There are slim pickings after those.

I'm a little perplexed by the negativity towards Aish.

The kid looked pretty good in his first year, as evident by his rising star nom. 2 years out from his draft he was the talk of Adelaide.

Consider what Aish was doing as a 19yr old in a poor side, then look at where Sam Mitchell was at the same age - not even viewed as good enough to be on a list.

Aish could absolutely thrive at Hawthorn.

Aish is only 19 years old. I think he has shown enough in his first 2 season's to suggest he can become elite.
Yeah just watched a few of his highlights again and I agree...he does have quite a bit of upside.
Not to proud to say that I might have got that comment about he and O'Rourke being in the same category on talent. Aish above O'Rourke.

realistically, we are going to need to do a mini re-build in the next few years as our older champs bow out.....
no point chasing too much for immediate glory, ie, they dont have to be the best players going around now, but lets lock in some serious talent that will be peaking in 2-3 years.....
watching BoxHill on the weekend, Sicily, TOB, Ando, orourke all look ready to push for seclection next year if we can keep them....even WhiteX is still young enough to push hard again...looked a class above on Saturday....

To trade Harley in would be like bringing a cancer to the club. People don't change, no matter who's "looking " after them. I would be worried about the effect he would have on the younger playing group as well. He isn't cheap either, he would still cost $600k a year + the resources the club to need to put around him.
I agree that danger is far too expensive to bring to the club, but like I said- I would take danger in a heartbeat over Harley.

I think we have 2 able replacements at Box Hill in Anderson and O'Rourke for our aging midfield. Ideally, if we can pick up and Aish/Bennell/O'Meara it sures it up a lot.

Still think we need a forward who can take a pack mark to come in to the side.
I think you're right Jed and Jono are learning their trade as flexible players at Box Hill, if we can pick up an elite player under 25 this year or next we are set.
Sicily and Tim O could be the marking forward to complement Rough and Gunna.

You think the Carlton recruiters regret the day they listened to Ratts and recruited Kane Lucas at pick 12 in the 2010 draft.
A person I sit beside a work 1st cousin was part of the recruitment team for that draft and they were all set the read out Nat Fyfe's name at that pick, but Ratts at the very last second made them recruit Lucas instead. Man was that a miss.
