Damn. He would be great now there is no longer a sub. Would love him to nail that 4th spot on the interchange.

Whitecross has met with GWS might find his way there according to twitter. Lion's also interested.
Not sure what, if any compensation he would return. If he wants to go, maybe do a package deal of Whitecross and Simpkin to GWS for 27. Or to brissy for 21.

So now we can't pick up a FA.
This draft is not weak, just shallow. Top 15 - 20 very good. Should get two good players at 15 & 18, then 20+ a lottery anyway.

That trade is not as good as it was looking like it was going to be. If you go by how the AFL values draft picks, Jed is valued at pick 39/40. I guess the saving grace is we get a first rounder, but lets hope we make it count!

Yes totally agree. Looks good on first impression but not so once you do the math.

If we traded up for pick 8 then we'd be a massive show for Weidman and considerations need to be made about whether we keep our pick in lieu of on trading for Carlisle.

Pick 15+18+55 to GWS for Pick 8+27. Might seem like GWS get ripped off, but I believe they actually end up with more points to use on their Academy players and that's seemingly their whole goal this trade period to ensure the likes of Hopper.

Pick 8 could then be given to Essendon for Carlisle, or (what's looking most likely) we could simply use Pick 8 to draft a talented player.

From there, the most beneficial trade would be Whitecross+Pick 27 to Brisbane for Pick 21. It's better than the third round compensation we would receive if Whitecross left as a Free Agent, and I don't think he'd want to leave the club empty handed. Brisbane consequently get the man they want with a slight pick downgrade for their second round.

From there, we effectively have 5 spots on our senior list we need to fill since Heatherley has been upgrade (replacements for Hale, Lake, Suckling, Anderson, Woodward and Whitecross).

Assuming that we pick up Fitzpatrick, we would effectively have Pick 8, Pick 21 and Pick 58 in the draft. We'd have a really good chance of getting players like Sam Weideman and Clayton Oliver with our first two selections.

This equates to four new players: but one spot still left.

Halfback Dasher mentioned we were looking for high picks with a player on the trade table. If we can get a high pick+a somewhat lower pick (like a third rounder) for this player, we'd go into this draft looking very, very good despite losing some players and despite it being labelled as a weaker draft (the draft where we got Franklin, Roughead and Lewis was also called a weaker draft).

Pick 8 would likely net us Weidman, that being the case we would seriously have to re-consider trading for Carlisle. I'm sold on either way, tbh Carlisle is the safe and proven option and with our window open should be the main target but gee Weidman could anchor our forward line for the next decade.

ATM we have

IN: Heatherley (rookie upgrade)

OUT: Lake (ret), Hale (ret), Suckling (WB), Anderson (NM), Woodward (del).........Whitecross (GWS) Simpkin (del)

5 Picks in draft (15, 18, 55, 58, 76)+ Heatherley as rookie upgrade

It's always a risk, but the scary thing is that Weideman has been kept down by injuries. He's a fantastic contested mark, great runner for his size and despite not being tested the Combine has great athleticism and strength. With Roughead going on 29, and O'Brien seemingly not developing as well as we'd like, I'd honestly take Weideman above Carlisle. That being said, I certainly wouldnt say no to Jake.

Out of interest, why would we be targeting a KPF over a midfielder/utility? No doubt he'll be a good player, but replacing our older midfielders seems like a bigger need right now, especially with Jed gone and Weideman probably taking a few years to get up to speed.
