You guys are being a bit harsh on Fitzpatrick.

Yes, he isn't a star recruit and yes he's probably not going to set the world on fire. But if we hadn't have got him, Pittonent would have been our only ruck depth and he's still a developing player. With Ceglar having back problems plaguing him throughout this year, and McEvoy also having periods of injury, we would have had to have relied upon the greenhorn Pittonent to ruck for us (worst case scenario alone) which while good for him probably wouldn't have been the best thing for the club.

So now we have our third ruckman who can play at AFL level to a decent extent and give Pittonent more time to develop should an injury occur. Yeah it's not flash, but its only pick 94 and could be a solid structural move should an injury occur.

Other clubs could have picked him up, and we needed a mature Hale type for backup to Cegs. Also, as a rookie, he wouldn't be able to play unless we put someone on the LTI.

A Melbourne mate of mine was pretty disappointed he was delisted, said he is quite fast and athletic (supposedly)

Cheap pick up for insurance; Cegs and Bigboy to play, Pittonet and Fitzpatrick in reserve.

Melbourne supporting mate of mine reckons that Fitzpatrick can be versatile (in that he's played full forward, full back and in the ruck for Melbourne) but he's fairly rubbish.
