still coming to grips that we have the alf's worst player on our list , grimley could of done just as much as him if he needed to be called on, it is not as if fitzpatrick has been averaging a tonne of hitouts every time he plays either

They don't want to directly give up pick 12 for Yarran. They trade it to us along with 19 for 15 and 18, get Yarran and still have 18 and 19 come draft night.

That doesn't make any sense to me. If they trade 12 and 19 to the Hawks, and then 15 to Carlton for Yarran, how can they still have 18 and 19 come draft night?

Sorry, I buggered that up.
Richmond believe that pick 12 in a direct swap for Yarran is overs and won't budge but if they can do something like the below and move up the order in the 2nd/3rd round then they are content:

Example only

Richmond
Out: 12, 19
In: Yarran, 15 (on traded to Carlton), 18 and a swap for later picks

Hawthorn
Out: 15, 18, Whitecross/Simpkin(?)
In: 12, 19

Carlton
Out: Yarran
In: 15, Whitecross/Simpkin(?)

So we're going to help Richmond get Yarran by switching 15 & 18 for 12 & 19... Can we get more out of the deal sincw they are desperate?

I don't mind that.

How does this help Richmond? I didn't understand trade as it lowered their first round pick.

Unless Richmond will accept 15 direct. Why don't we offer it to Richmond direct and get Yarran?

this kindve seems like a pointless trade...

Not to us or the other 2 clubs it doesn't.

Hawthorn move up the order
Carlton get their first rounder for Yarran and possibly a Whitecross/Simpkin Type
Richmond get Yarran and upgraded picks later in the draft

12 or 15, same difference, i doubt going up 3 spots will get us our man in the draft, i could be wrong.....

People are really quibbling about giving away a pick that we'd never use to pick up a backup ruckman/forward who will mostly play at Box Hill? He might not be exciting - but he is a shade better than Grimley and fills a need. To quote from Bad Santa 'they can't all be winners, kid'.

He doesn't look any better than Grimley...I guess that is my concern.

You never knock a gift horse in the mouth.
So based on your comments you'd be happy if we gave picks 15 and 18 to Carlton for picks 20 and 21 then yeah? Same difference right

Obviously the coaches see something in him - something they can work with to improve. They toiled with Grimley for 6 years and from all reports he never improved upon his many deficiencies. He asked the club to explore trades last year and no-one came knocking. We threw him a lifeline with a rookie listing and he still didn't improve.

The consolation is that Fitzy was free. From what I have seen he does not like contact which is a big problem for a ruck at AFL level. Hope he can fill a role for us.

I can see what you're saying in terms of comparing their abilities as a forward, but the big difference for me is that Fitzy has shown the capacity to be a serviceable ruckman (with room to improve as well I think), while Grimley's rucking abilities have proved to be consistently atrocious.

Much like getting home from school in the 80s and 90s - it is time for some Monkey Magic!

Ok, so Big Boy does a hammy in Round 1.....who comes in for Round 2: Pittonet, Fitzpatrick or neither (and we play a fwd as part time ruck)

Whoever does better in the preseason. Pittonet has competition to drive him while at Box Hill. Makes very good sense. Everyone needs to know that they have to earn their spot.

Also with Fitz we can give him a 1 year deal. So if he is no good we can delist him.
yeah been thinking that the club will be carefully planning commitments behind having to select a player through the national draft which i think gives them a minimum 2 year contract (as opposed to 1 year deals). eg. do you commit a 2 yr deal to pick 68 in 2015 or leave a spot open to allow more flexibility in 2016? makes the futures of whitey and simpkin interesting in terms of how they fill the vacancies if they go.

God I hate how little you have to know to be able to report on the AFL sometimes:

9:57am Ronny Lerner: A very jovial Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade has just arrived at the Etihad Stadium trade zone and exchanged pleasantries with Terry Wallace. Those two have plenty in common having both coached the Bulldogs!

They were also team mates at Hawthorn and played in 3 premierships you utter twit.

Can't see how and why we wouldn't make a play for yarran...

- huge flag chance next year
- our list as it stands, doesn't improve from last year. My belief is it has to, to challenge again
- our depth for the first time in years seems as though it will be challenged
- will arguably give us more off half back than suckling
- is elite (kicking skills, pace)
- fits a perfect age bracket (24), offers immediate impact, peak performance age, 6+ years of service

Make it happen hawks.

To Jake Carlisle's credit he has published a statement taking responsibility and contritely apologising for his actions. Could have easily whinged about being sold out and lied about the video being out of context or something similar. I spend my work days seeing if people have made mistakes - and those that are honest about them are sadly a slim minority.

I believe we have seen something there we can work with. Jack might surprise a few on here.
