Agree with all. If Dixon's extra high salary demand jeopardizes us holding onto other highly rated players such as Prestia, Lynch, Kolodjashnij, etc in the future then the club must let him go. We do not need to over pay a key fwd $750k with dicky ankles when we have other key fwds to fill the void.

I believe they drafted Peter Wright for this reason. Matured aged Brooksby also being added to the list as a player in the same fwd/ruck role can't be a coincidence. Sam Day is a man mountain & oozes potential. Is this his chance?

If the club does decide to trade Dixon, he will earn us some great compo. Highest bidder wins. It will take a Rd1 pick plus a handy player to secure him with that amount of cash being thrown around.

Freo, Lions, Carlton, Saints - possibly even the Bombers if they lose Carlisle - all looking for a key fwd to bolster their list.

Obviously would love to see him stay as one of our originals, but the club must choose what is best for our future.

The funny thing on the Draft thread on the main board is some people think we will accept a 2nd rounder for him. I agree with you that if you are willing to pay $750K then you rate him as "elite" in the league and need to trade accordingly, top 5 pick pick or a top 10 and a player

I think we have to take the Alistair Clarkson view of Dicko possibly leaving, he always states "one solider out, another one in" if Dicko want to go then we continue to develop Wright and Day.

All we can do is maximise what we get as a trade

Spot on.

Sydney lost Malceski and seemingly haven't been impacted by it at all. Hawthorn lost Buddy and went on to win the premiership.

We lose Dicko and we does his ACL and we win a premiership? Is that how it works?

In the words of Danny Frawley , correct weight , we can cover his loss , and we will be well rewarded for his departure.

Is there any chance that if we improve in the 2nd half of the year and end up higher than the Lions on the ladder that he nominates for the draft and they pick him up for free?

If so surely we would get a compo pick which as I understand it would be taken directly after our fist pick (as Melbourne received for Frawley) that would give us say pick No3 so we could end up with picks 3 and 4 in the draft?

Unless I'm mistaken, the compensation picks are only given if players leave via free agency, not if they opt to drop out to the preseason draft.

Regardless, I very much doubt Dixon would go to Brisbane. Whispers suggest he won't be in Queensland at all next year, and the only club crying out for a key forward who will likely be getting a top 10 pick is Essendon.

Probably suits Essendon a huge deal, they are crying out for a ruckman AND a key forward. Mind you doubt they could afford the pay packet he is asking.

On other news, shattered that Rory Sloane has signed with Adelaide, was hoping to throw a pick and a SA player or 2 to Adelaide.... :(

Well I suppose they can't knock him for have a wine pre game then as he could always say "well as least I'm not injecting it"

you can't trust Essendon

was reading an article the other day that said Dixon and his management had ruled out Brisbane altogether. Freo and 2 Melbourne clubs are still very interested.

My opinion is i honestly think he's got no intentions of leaving

I agree with you, I think his manager and Dixon are just doing the best for himself to get the best deal he can and stay with us.

If Freo do get him they'll need to trade. Weller in return and we'll trade draft picks. Our 2nd round (looks 20-25) depending on free agency moves for their first pick around 14-18. Leaves us 3 first round picks, a first round mid from 2014 (Weller) and a top 10 mid from 2013 (Aish) for free in the preseason draft.

Dixon is very passionate about the Suns, first ever player picked up, first ever goal and a foundation member, but managers can confuse people, whispering sweet nothings in to ears.
That's the sentimental side of it. Managing to retain your first ever signing seven years on is quite an achievement. He and John Witheriff are the only two left from that day. The 2008 signings that are left:

Charlie Dixon - signed 29 July 2008
Zac Smith - signed 5 August 2008
Rory Thompson - signed 15 November 2008

Bluey signed on 13 August 2008. Ashcroft came on board on 11 November 2008. I think Witheriff officially took control of the bid team in April 2008. I know you have to do what's best for the club but retaining Charlie just seems like the right thing to do.

The club definitely won't be paying overs, but it's common for any manager to get the best for their player.

Just like Sandilands' manager leaking info to the media about him looking elsewhere with the GC Suns having already spoken to him. He obviously was never going to leave, but like a dog to a bone the media latches on and creates a story. Next thing you know, he's re-signed with Freo for what we can only assume was a better deal than what was originally on the table.

Dixon leaving the club after having been there through thick and thin and enduring all the losses would be ridiculous. Just a few days ago Leon Cameron said that premiership quality sides NEED players to take well under what they're worth in order to succeed. Lions did it, Hawthorn does it, Swans do it.

To maintain success at the highest level, sacrifices are to be made. Pay grade is the biggest. Look at GWS - each one of their midfielders would fetch 750k+ in any other club but are likely being paid 400k each, for example. Massively under their worth, but they'll see a premiership if they keep up the commitment.

If Aish leaves he would go to Victoria or SA. If he wanted to stay in Queensland he would be at Brisbane.
If we want to target midfielders from other clubs i reckon we go after GWS. They have so many good players playing in the 2s and not getting a game. With our injury history, they would certinly get a game here.

If he does stay and sign a new contract he could become our first real legend of this club.

This article from last month states Charlie Dixon has the opportunity to become a Gold Coast icon, if he were to stay. How many other big name sportsmen have spent more time in the city than Charlie? Scott Prince did 6 years at the Titans so he already has him covered. Who else is there? Guys like Capper, Lewis, Culina and Heal only had short stints on the glitter strip and are probably remembered for their careers elsewhere. Dicko has a rare opportunity.

Are you sure about that? He spent a week at the Suns and lived with Ablett in 2013 and he wanted to get picked up by us. Same manager as Ablett and I'd be surprised if Gazza isn't in his ear.
Which GWS 2nds mids would you pick up?? Lamb, Scully and Palmer all butcher the ball and we have enough of those. I'd rather we chase quality that will get us into finals for years to come.

I'm fairly sure the Suns overlooked Aish in favour of Kolodjashnij because they believed he would get homesick and request a trade after his initial contract...

McKenna came out in a presser late in the year and said we desperately needed run from the backline. KK was that best position.
