People in the know on our board keep saying that Rocket is pretty keen to get Minson up there, would Minson and pick 25odd be a fair deal in your eyes?

Too old I would of thought, he is 30 isn't he and his form has been meh for the last couple of years.

I'd agree, but I'm basing it on the whole thought that Rocket really wants him there.

He'd be simular to Mumford at GWS. Just that big, aggressive bloke who wants to hurt the other team.

I would take what yo have heard with a grain of salt, Rocket would not be telling people if he was into Minson, it would be disrespectful to your club. And people at every club have a tendency to big note what they know is happening in the club, often it is complete BS. As an example 2 years ago Tippet was a lock to come to the Suns, "people in the know" at the Crows were talking about having seen the contract or having it confirmed from Tippett himself blah blah blah and it was all Bull shit.

Anything is possible but I certainly wouldn't put any money on it if I was you

And the fact Mumfords 2 years younger and Dominates in the ruck and around the ground
And Minson is running around in the 2s

Would prefer David Hale over Minson who may be on the outer at Hawthorn this year
I know he (or at least his wife has) wanted to come home at various stages
Smart guy who may be a future coach I reckon

Jon Ralph. / second back page of the Herald Sun.
6 Clubs circle Banned Bennell.

6 clubs have REGISTERED there interest in Bennell
All the usual shit. Last year signed a 3 yr extension. But if the Suns want him gone he is as good as gone.
And Matera was chased hard last yr by West Coast but signed till the end if 2017 they've supposably having another look.

The 3 players have 16 games to show everyone they want to be here so at least that gives the club a chance to see whether it is going to be Rocket's way or the highway.

At least being contracted we hold the leverage in negotiations and can extract maximum value, especially if we have a number of teams bidding up their value (e.g. what Collingwood got for Dayne Beams except there will be a discount on the what clubs are prepared to pay because of the perceived character issues).

Wouldn't mind Hale... Would be 31, turning 32 in 2016, but on a 2 year contract he'd be very valuable. Can't see Hawthorn wanting to give him another contract at the end of the year, but it still wouldn't change the fact that we need a solid ruckman in their mid to early 20s. No point getting a 30 year old only for them to retire two years later, leaving us in the same position as we are now.

Hale would be ideal if the team had just opened its premiership window. Similar to what we did when we recruited Ryder. I know Ryder is younger but it's the same sort of philosophy. We needed a quality ruckman to round out our team and open the premiership window so we went and got one. Maybe it's time to just give 2MP a go and see if he can stamp his place in the 22 as the number 1 ruckman. There isn't much competition for that spot anyway.

The club should be doing everything possible to get Dixon to stay. He is key to our club.
I'm pretty confident he'll stay. Surely a bloke who's spent his whole career getting molested by others teams wouldn't leave to the Lions of all clubs, while the Suns are on the verge of success. It'll just be the right $$$ for him to sign, nothing else. Yeah, the Lions could offer him more, but hopefully we can offer him something comparable.

Imagine a Lynch, Dixon, Wright forward line, with an Ablett, O'Meara, Swallow midfield, and a Malceski, May, Thompson backline ;)

Does everybody really think that our most important need is a ruckman?

Last I looked we are one of the top teams in clearances in the comp. We are 2nd this year at 43/game and were 5th last year at 40/game (and that is after our woeful finish to last year and poor start to this year). We were last in 2014 in hit outs but the Demons were 3rd (won 4 games) and the Giants were 5th (won 6 games).

Suggest we need to focus more on our midfield and wingers. We were last in 2014 in effective disposals and first in clangers. Yikes.

Hopefully Tom Nicholls will be our 1st ruck for the rest of the year. He has just turned 23 and has only played 18 games. Very likely he is going to get better. He is more than competitive enough for mine and is very willing to tackle. Had some big games a couple of years ago (and everyone was talking him up) but injuries have knocked him back. See how he goes with a decent run at it.

He has been beaten overall in the last 3 weeks but that was against 3 of the best half dozen rucks in the comp in Mumford, Martin and Jacobs (and Nic Nat this week). I did not think that he was one of our bigger problems in those 3 games.

Would also help our rucks a lot if we had Jaegar, Gaz and Swallow fit!! (As an aside, very impressed with Prestia the last couple of weeks. Hard at it and trying to shoulder the load.)

Good point. Hopefully he'll be given the number 1 spot for the remainder of the season to see how he goes! Hopefully a bit of confidence will improve his skills. It can't hurt given how our season has started!
