Kitty chiller is coming across as a bit of a media attention whore.

Has an Australian chef de mission ever got this much attention? What's her big focus on 2 athletes out of the plus 500 that will be in the team?

I bookmarked an article that explains her unreasonable attitude.
At a home Olympic Games, amid the feats of Cathy Freeman, Ian Thorpe and the like, Kitty Chiller's 14th place in modern pentathlon in Sydney didn't grab too many headlines. It wasn't just that her event was one of the lowest profile, least understood, sports. By the time her competition took place, just hours before the closing ceremony, the athletes village was already in party mode.

Chiller had attended the opening ceremony but then spent most of the Games in Melbourne before returning to compete. Her cause wasn't helped by two things: a fractured knee cap a week earlier, and the shenanigans that took place in and around the hut in the village in which she was trying to sleep the night before.

"My event started at 6.30 in the morning I had to get up at 4.30, five. And there was a team – I won't say which one it was – and they had decided to have a party just outside our hut, and they came into the lounge room where I was staying and took the fridge and took the couch outside," Chiller recalls.

"Then they decided to play with the fire hydrant. It was two o'clock in the morning and I was still wide awake so I took my pillow and doona and walked up to one of the medical staff's office rooms and knocked on the door and said 'can I just lie down here for two hours?'"

Chiller does not mention this story to apportion any blame on the anonymous revellers. That's ancient history. No, she brings it up to explain the very personal origins of how she is attacking the job as Australia's Olympic team boss at Rio de Janeiro.

I like how she says "I don't care whether you're a Cam McEvoy or a table tennis player or a Sally Pearson player or a badminton player. Don't care. You're all exactly the same." Except she doesn't treat them all the same. The AOC have been publicly riding both Bernie and Nick's back since Wimbledon last year.

She sounds angry. I dont remember tennis attracting so much attention pre-Olympics but Kitty has found Nick and Tomic an easy target and also brings attention to herself. Can she talk about something else besides them.

Plus, she needs to understand that golf and tennis have different schedules, and tournaments throughout the year, the players want to build and maintain their ranking points.

Kitty Kat likes to bully young people, well done you attention seeking bum! she hasn't done shit all for Australia or her sport so she needs to shut the **** up. Can't believe people buy into her bullshit. Just trying to use others for her 2 minutes of fame.

Also, not too many people give a shit about the olympics. It's getting irrelevant each time...

Same. I used to enjoy the Olympics especially watching track and field, swimming, and gymnastics. But now they have introduced too many events plus it's so expensive for a country to host the Olympics.

Kitty is one annoying and egotistical person, trying to sound relevant.

Not all the media is anti-Kyrgios, here is a positive article pointing out the hypocrisy of some of the treatment Nick gets.

Edit: Might not be able to get through the paywall. To summarise, Novak manhandled an umpire in his match against Rafa and it barely caused a ripple, if Nick had done this there would have been a major outcry.

Kyrgios has been rightly backed by TA president Steve Healy, who insists the nation’s top player should be cut some slack.

In many quarters, that won’t be happening any time soon. The sins of the past will ensure that. He will forever be haunted by the sledging of Stan Wawrinka in Montreal last year and he’s currently on the nose with the Australian Olympic Committee for what’s regarded as intemperate social media behaviour.

-----

Parroting a rap sheet of past indiscretions behind the latest 'storm in a teacup' over and over again is not reporting. It reinforces a narrative of intent with the focus being on only the negative rather than being on the entire picture. Nick has been really trying hard to be better out there and those who do follow the sport have been able to see this however this has been poorly reflected in the 'reputable' Australian media who don't even care about tennis. Some people need to get over themselves and lay off the rubbish being spewed out. These Dr Seuss-wannabes and their media employers who think they are doing the public a service should be ashamed of themselves. Like the AOC and 'that' Shitty Kitty they are the embarrassment.

So I just want to make a couple of points on this Kyrgios Olympics issue. Firstly we need to give credit where it is due, since the infamous sledge that led to disciplinary action last year, Kyrgios's behaviour has improved out of sight. Yes he is still fiery on court, but then if that was a such a big crime guys like Andy Murray (the most recent Olympic Gold Medallist in men's singles) would have been run out of the game years ago. But he hasn't really crossed that line, and his behaviour off court has been good.

Secondly is anyone else getting the impression this Kitty person (who I have never heard of prior to her role in this year's Olympics) has an inferiority complex or something? Either way her comments strike me as unprofessional. I'm not sure of her role in team selection, but if she is on the committee who ratifies team nominations, then her comments are inappropriate as she is preempting a decision, clearly without all the facts. If she isn't, then as I understand her role is to be a leader/mentor to the team during the games, and her comments, should Kyrgios be selected as expected, will make her role in relation to Kyrgios difficult if not impossible, as that relationship requires a level of trust that you could not expect Kyrgios to have with her at this point.

And finally why did Kyrgios need to be brought into the discussion about Tomic last week to begin with, given that it had nothing to do with him? It reminded me of Rafter dragging Kokkinakis into a discussion about Tomic and Kyrgios last year, which did nothing to help Kokkinakis who was going into his first Wimbledon on the back of illness. It was unnecessary to the conversation, and unfair to the player being dragged into something that had nothing to do with them.

De Castella was reasonable although he wasn't happy with Bernard pulling out. Adam Scott gets a free pass then? o_O

Raelene Boyle, at least believes tennis shouldn't be in the Olympics but she's doesn't understand tennis or Kyrgios. Do these people ever see outside their silly bubble?

It seems like the media are chasing up every former Olympian to weigh in on this saga. What a joke.

It's all media hype... He'll either play or not play, he'll get in on his ranking. It all really doesn't matter

The media and the former Olympians are very selective with their criticism. If they speak about Kygrios, then they end up getting some media attention. Is Kitty and the other former Olympians telling us that the other athletes are well behaved.
