Lions select Demarcus Robinson, WR, Florida

Demarcus

On talent alone, Robinson would easily be in the top five prospects at the position, but his troubled history at Florida sees Robinson slide into the fifth round, where the Lions are happy enough to roll the dice on the nephew of Marcus Robinson.

The Lions signed Jeremy Kerley to bolster the wide receiver corps, but the former TCU product is no Calvin Johnson, that's for sure. Chances are that Robinson isn't going to be the next Megatron, but the Lions will nab for themselves a player with talent to burn. He can get behind defences thanks to his downfield prowess and he has the strength to shake himself clear of cornerbacks trying to press him at the line of scrimmage. He profiles well with Mike Wallace, so should take advantage of Matthew Stafford's cannon for an arm, provided that the Lions can keep the pocket clean enough for Stafford to hit the deep throws.

Of course, Robinson's history of suspension at Florida is a major red flag. He was suspended four times in three seasons whilst at Florida, including a suspension in November 2015 that forced him to miss the regular college season finale against Alabama (Robinson claims that the suspension was incurred because he had contact with a marketing representative). Robinson's teammates voted to reinstate him on the team after he served his suspension. At the NFL Combine, Robinson told reporters that he went through rehabilitation for drug abuse during his freshman year at college, but emphasised that he had not tested positive for drugs since completing rehab.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
Round 5, Pick 16, 155th overall

JORDAN HOWARD, RB, Indiana

6'0", 230lbs

img25429323.jpg

The Colts have the declining Frank Gore, Robert Turbin and journeyman Jordan Todman in their Running Back rotation. Gore won't be around much longer and Turbin/Todman aren't the answer, so the Colts definitely need to upgrade at this position.

Howard is a bruising runner that isn't afraid of contact. He has good gap recognition and appears to be NFL ready with his understanding of blocking schemes and running lanes. Howard has very strong leg strength and a low center of gravity, allowing him to run through tacklers and push defenders back. His bruising running style doesn't really hit the next level, as far as speed goes, and it leaves him exposed to injury. He missed a handful of games last season which raises questions about his durability.

If he can stay healthy his bruising running style should provide the Colts with a workhorse for many future seasons.

larkis and the bills are up as are Shupe and the Eagles

New York Jets select De'Vondre Campbell, OLB, Minnesota

The Jets sorely need another outside linebacker to pair with Lorenzo Mauldin and to allow the Jets to finally cut ties with the geriatric Calvin Pace. Campbell probably isn't going to be the man that will allow the Jets to do that, but there's no doubt that Campbell passes the eye test, checking in at 6'4", 232lb.

Campbell finished third on the Minnesota defence as a senior with 92 tackles last season, including 6.5 tackles for loss and four sacks, while starting 11 of 13 games. He was an Honourable Mention All-Big Ten and earned an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game. Campbell spent two years at junior college (Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College) and chose to move to Minnesota because he appreciated the honesty of then Gophers coach Jerry Kill.

Campbell displays remarkable coordination for a man of his size and he is comfortable playing in space. He has smooth body control and flexible joints that allow him to break quickly on the ball. He became more settled with the greater number of reps and he showed improvement from practice to practice in the lead-up to the Shrine Game.

Campbell's instincts for the position, however, aren't refined and they tend to get Campbell into trouble when he overruns his angles and fails to properly diagnose plays. He shows tunnel vision and can be too easily blocked by opposing linemen.

Campbell would probably start out as a special teamer and bench depth for the Jets as he tries to grasp the intricacies of Todd Bowles' defence. He's not the person who will move the needle too much on defence for the Jets, but if he improves his technique then there's an outside chance that down the track, he'll be a future NFL starter.

Shupe is still on the clock and Broken is on the clock with the Skins.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Round 5, Pick 19, 158th overall

ERIC MURRAY, CB, Minnesota

5'11", 199lbs

Our lack at depth at the CB position was exposed last season so, I believe, that's an area we'll be looking at improving in this draft. Murray is unlikely to be the main man at CB, but you'd kind of expect that at this point in the draft. However he will be a good addition to the defensive secondary.

While under 6-foot, he plays bigger than his size. Murray is a physical corner who is good at pressing receivers and making their lives hard. He isn't afraid to defend the run and has decent awareness of what is going on around him, being very good at reading underneath routes and jumping underneath passes. Unfortunately that didn't translate to high interception numbers, but he had a high number of pass break ups.

Speed and size are question marks, but his physical approach, good head for the position and willingness to get involved will find him a place on any roster. For a start I see him contributing on special teams (where he was decent in school) as well as playing in passing packages while he develops his pro game.

bgt2110 and the Texans are now up.

Pick 159 HOUSTON TEXANS select :

JOSH FERGUSON - RB - ILLINOIS

5'9
198 LBS

Ferguson has impressed as a fast running back who can contribute as a receiver and on special teams. He was banged up with a shoulder injury in 2015, but averaged 5.5 yards per carry for 708 yards and three touchdowns. He also recorded 38 receptions for 280 yards and two scores. Sources say that the 5-foot-9, 198-pounder could end up going as high as the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Sven up next

The Vikings were really hoping that Eric Murray would fall to them but rather than replacing Captain Munnerlyn they decide to pull the trigger on a potential Peterson replacement and take:

Jonathan Williams - RB - Arkansas

Williams + McKinnon would make an really interesting RBC at the Vikings IMO.

With the 168 pick in the Draft the Panthers Select, Isaac Seumalo - Guard - Oregon State

Probably should have addressed the O-Line much sooner but the value wasn't there. Seumalo is technically very good but injuries have knocked down his playing time. Can play Guard or Centre so his versatility will come in handy plus Ryan Kalil is getting older.

Seumalo proved that he was back from a foot injury that sidelined him for all of 2014 with the same foot quickness and technical talent that he had before his injury. Seumalo can play anywhere on the interior, but his best position might be at center thanks to his core strength and overall anchor.

Physically-speaking, Seumalo has the stout frame and natural strength that has helped many Polynesian players before him succeed at the point of attack. He incorporates excellent technique, as well, bending his knees and supplying a strong initial punch in textbook fashion.

Generally balanced and quick to shuffle laterally, Seumalo is often difficult to elude in pass protection. He generates movement at the point of attack and absorbs bull rushes well because of his power, core flexibility and knee bend. He has strong hands to latch on and control defenders and looks to finish his blocks. Efficiently gets to the second level and has a plan, stalking defenders and sealing them off from the action.

Dixie Flatline A11dAtP0w3R Shupe are all OTC

Pick 172 Cleveland Browns - Malcolm Mitchell (6'0" 198lbs) WR from Georgia

Talented WR who I almost picked at my last selection. Overcame a knee injury, good route runner with nice hands.

Pick 173 Cleveland Browns - Roberto Aguayo (6'0" 207lbs) K from Florida State

When in doubt, pick a kicker. 3 points is better than none.
