Brisbane AKER, VOSS,LAPPIN, POWER
Hawks Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis
West Coast Judd,Kerr Cousins
Geelong Ablett,Bartell,Selwood
Adelaide Ricciutto, Goodwin, Johnson, Mcleod
Have a look at how these players arrived at their respective clubs -
Akermanis - Brisbane zone selection
Voss - ??? - probably a Brisbane zone selection
Lappin - #2 draft selection
Power - #5 draft selection
Hodge - #1 draft selection
Mitchell - #36 draft selection
Lewis - #7 draft selection
Judd - #3 draft selection
Kerr - #18 draft selection
Cousins - F/S selection
Ablett - F/S selection
Bartel - #8 draft selection
Selwood - #7 draft selection
Ricciutto - Adelaide's startup draft concessions
McLeod - Traded, Freo stupidity
Goodwin - Pre-season draft
Johnson - #27 draft selection

So.. of the 17 players you named:
  • 7 were top-10 draft selections
  • 2 were F/S selections
  • 3 were zone selections or startup draft concessions
Only 4 of 17 were drafted later than #10 - and 2 of those 4 were Adelaide players!

To put that into context:
  • Adelaide does not have a single top-10 draftee on the entire list
  • Adelaide has only had 3x top-10 selections in the club's entire history, it has never had a top-5 selection
  • Adelaide has never had a F/S selection (Ben Jarman will be our first)
  • Adelaide does not have access to zone selections or academies
  • Adelaide has not had any draft concessions inside the last 20 years.

I'm not yet only time will tell if he is worth his spot lever is solid but we will find out in a few years if he can get the elite talent on board that is required to make a tilt and finding elite Kpp or midfield is the key not fringe players
How do you propose we obtain this elite talent? Feel free to make reference to my previous post in this topic (breaking down the list of elite premiership midfielders you supplied).

Ogilvy has done an amazing job with the draft selections he's had to work with. It's not his fault that he hasn't had the benefit of draft concessions, academies, zone selections, F/S selections, or top-10 picks. Without those, it is much, much, harder to draft an elite midfielder.

The only player on the entire list we could have drafted is Daniel Kerr, ahead of Laurence Angwin that we took at #7 in 2000; and Sam Mitchell, instead of Brent Reilly we took at #12 in 2001

Im not suggesting we drop down to bottom 4 so we get these picks are you?

Ogilvi hasnt done anything fantastic yet, but he cant have, he has only seen 3 drafts the results or non results are barely showing yet, but would be good if he could find another Sloane or Walker or Talia and Reid finds another Betts or Jacobs or Lynch.

But Midfielders are the name of the game

Time will tell

That would be helpful, and I think it's a near certainty that we'll select a midfielder with pick #13. But don't go expecting miracles - pick #13 will probably become #15, and the odds on getting the best player in the draft that late in proceedings is fairly slim. I have faith in Ogilvy finding a good player - I don't expect miracles.

Will Ogilvie grab any elite talent, because thats what makes the team expecially in the midfield

The best teams I can recall

Brisbane AKER, VOSS,LAPPIN, POWER
Hawks Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis
West Coast Judd,Kerr Cousins
Geelong Ablett,Bartell,Selwood

I'm awaiting yours & Drugs Are Bad Mackay? reactions when we take a defender with our pick 13...

hahahahahaha I think there might be a few more than ourselves having a dig if we dont recruit a mid, as most by the end of next year will be sick of hearing the media smash the crows over its lack of midfield talent, unless fingers crossed the Crouchs take that next step

Doedee is lining up as well

The question is he going to a better option than Keath? ie. Is Otten & Keath enough depth?

Given Ottos injury history, I'd take a punt on a guy you could stick on a two year 150k contract. I am a keen fan on Keath, think he looks the goods but if we lose KPF, we may be forced to use him there as he was a forward as a junior I think, so it is worth a list spot. It isn't like we are blessed with players over 196cm

I'd definitely be looking to find another Hartigan type in the rookie draft.

Just reading a few things around there's the likes of Tyler Keitel, Matthew Sully, Brody Mihocek (he's only 192cm though) and Rowan Marshall (who sounds a bit like Reilly O'Brien. Ruck who spent a lot of time in defence. Big lad at 203 cm) who are undrafted state league players who could all be picked up late in the draft or into the rookie draft.

Andy Otten is the pearler though. Second in rookie of the yr and described himself as a big bodied mid.....WW dots...We played him off half back.

Welcome aboard .....if you look carefully, it's spreading .....very soon if you don't ...you'll be in the minority

No it won't spread too far. But I do like that 1970crow seems pretty wound up by it.

Thought you counted out Gallucci?
I did, on the basis he looks a replica of Douglas ....and IMO that's not the type i would have thought we would be taking

But we do have a history of taking players who athletically test well at the combine

Bit like Marshall really ....are we taking best available or partially with an eye on needs ?

Galluci has been invited to Sydney, so he's a chance .....probably not my preference, but i'm just putting 4 names forward as possibilities .....probably prefer Berry to Galluci, but i think Berry will be #16 to #24
