These parts have been quiet for a while now. Who are the early favourites to take out D1 in 2016? Ill go with Old Geelong and St Mary's after having good years last year.

I agree with you on that one. OG will be desperate to take that next step!

SMS seem to have been quite active in recruiting getting some very good players on board!

I think Therry will be right up there too.

The gap is pretty large considering Therry went up and then straight back down.

The fact that PEGS won the reserves and lost the seniors was relegated, imo is an indictment on the reserves players not wanting to step up and help the seniors. It also reflected that the standard of C Grade reserves was average at best.

How long can you rely on Baddley, Scurrie, Forrest and Flaherty. Need to new blood to come through.

I think you will find PEGS weren't as bad as they record suggested - really pushed the top sides and should have beaten OH twice. Out of the older bunch, only Baddeley and Skurrie going around again and Skurrie will be a real handful in this grade. The Jones brothers will be elite players in D1.
Not sure if they have had too many player loses overall and have picked up a few - Livori, McCann both back full time, both very, very good players. For the first time in a long time they are getting a big group of 1st VXIII players from the school and expect 3 or 4 to play seniors rather than u/19s.
Not sure about reserves players not wanting to play seniors - I think they played 46 players in their 1s last year.
They had a lot of good C Grade fringe players and not the top end talent which let them down when push came to shove. This may change this year.

I think the 4 teams discussed so far will be the ones to beat. PEGS, Therry, OG and SMS seem the likely front runners so far. We've seen in the past few years teams coming up from D2 have been more than solid(Kew, Therry, SMS). Anyone give Ivanhoe AFC and Old Paradians a chance?

Agree that the jones brothers will be elite in the grade. Both have made team of year in C and 25-27, so in ideal age bracket to play their best. Forrest still a chance to go around and believe Flaherty will play. Livori a huge in, bog in u 23 state team twice, didn't play last year and likewise Mc Cann the best young player at the club missed all last year. Still probably need some outside run and few more players that can run through the guts.

Skurrie was a handful 15 years ago. Shizzen now.

Finished top 5 in the competition for goal kicking in C grade last year. 33. Reckon he will go ok...

Any more news on Pattinson? An earlier article suggested he wasn't playing that much?

Combing through the clearances page it looks like Prahran has lost a few and Old Mentone has gained a few. No-idea of the quality of these players though.

Old Geelong are my tip at this stage, purely because of the hype around their new footy manager.

Interesting selections.

1. PEGS
2. St Mary's
3. Therry
4. Old Geelong
My top 4. Bottom two from Premier C. Believe both clubs will be considerably stronger then last year. Some huge ins for both clubs. Mary's and Geelong strong from last year. Looks top 4.

What happened to Therry last year? Did they lose players? They absolutely dominated for the two years prior. If they bring the same form from those years they will finish top 2.

PEGS are an interesting one, few additions as mentioned, they could be anything this year, first few rounds will shape them.

SMS should see some improvement this year, couple of solid additions outweighing the loss of a player or two. Young side who are a year older now as well. Will finish top 4 minimum.

OGGS should also see some progression and will be thereabouts too.

Can't see Old Parade or Ivanhoe really troubling the top, but they shouldn't be near the bottom.

Whitefriars were a very young side last year, could be a surprise packet if they improve drastically.

Top 4:
OGGS
SMS

PEGS

A few long-term injuries late in 2014 not only dented our GF chance but left us short in 2015.
Then a few guys headed overseas and then we got pummeled with injuries.

With no depth in the twos last year either (reserves went from GF appearance to bottom of table too), 2015 was a tough year.

What was good about last year was a number of under-19s got a taste of senior footy. Some of those have really impressed and strengthened the depth at the top.
Back in D1, and with a number of guys back from overseas, we're optimistic about 2016.
Our list is still very young (take out Corey Bannister and Paul Edwards), the average age is getting around to the 23-24 mark.

Darcy Ryan and Brock Egglestone, both 21, ready for big years after missing large chunks in 2015 too.

PEGS v Therry Sunday. Be interesting to see where both teams are at. Both teams play each other this year, do you play a strong side show your structures/ key players etc or do you play a few younger players, few players in different positions, maybe not play a few older key players and not give a lot way.

SMS had a good hitout today winning by 16 against Caulfield who were relegated from premier B last year, still plenty of work to be done though

Sure both teams had outs. Banisters didn't play, PEGS had a heap out including ruck men. Only a praccy game. Solid hit out with both teams happy with there performance.

Therry have Nobs this week and the Hoes Hurstbridge. Any other praccy games happening this week that anyone knows of?
