Just goes to show how clueless umpires are as you get down the grade.
Such a junior umpiring mentality - oh he's got bright boots and blonde hair, lets vote him.
Bloke didn't lay a tackle all year, let alone get a hard ball - but I guess umpires don't really notice that.
If he is the best player in D1 this year, then the VAFA is struggling for talent.

You moron.

Easily leads our club and probably the league in contested possessions, clearances and frees for (all stats that point to winning you're own ball), not to mention kicking bags of goals playing as a rover.

Come on Burnside. Different umpires each week and he has polled most votes. Worthy winner! Would you rather different system?

And I thought mummy was bad...
This must be daddy.
Keep the name calling for bay 13 champ.

The system is fine - but would he have polled as many votes if he wore black boots and had dark hair?
He definitely stands out.

We're never going to know the answer to that one so would you please humour us for a bit and show us what good sportsmanship is instead of potting the best and fairest.
I thought you would have already gone down and made yourself comfortable in the D2 thread.

Saw a fair few better players than that sook

Delbridge missed 5 games throughout the middle of the year, headed to Japan. Very tough clearance player. Would have been a worthy winner. Still think we are being a bit harsh on Jones, he's a very similar player to Dimitri Dimakopolous in my eyes. Earns a lot of pill, reads the taps well. Don't love his ability to draw free kicks, but I go for Geelong so I understand as well as most that some people have a gift attracting them... ;)

What does everyone attribute Kew's recent success to? Were once a perennial D3 team once upon a time, now gained promotion to C section & going for their 3 premiership in a row
Hard work by their committee. Got junior development going. Got a successful coach who brought some good players with him, and patience. Good for them. Hard work pays dividends. Only a few years ago they had a two's side that could beat anybody but who refused to play ones. Times change and clubs go through stages.
Don't like the coach too much but got to give credit where it is deserved.

Having played against and subsequently watched his teams From Box Hill Sec College in Herald Sun Shield, I must say he has brought over some to quality talent which would shine in the Divisions.

Agree, similar to our club. On the ropes $40k+ in debt and lucky not to be wound up 10 years ago.
Slid down the grades like Kew at around the same time. We had a poor culture and our best players were lost to the DVFL every year.

Rallied to just exist, survived a alliance that didn't work out and a takeov....I mean 'merger' proposal with a neighboring club.
The road back didn't please everyone, we changed our jumper of 70 years to align ourselves closer to our juniors which upset plenty.
Every dollar made just meant saving the club and little to nothing spent on upgrading facilities.
Through close bonds with the juniors and a hard working committee who made good decisions the future is bright.
We have 3 sides in Grand Finals for the 1st time ever this weekend, and haven't actively recruited anyone externally from other clubs.
Our average age in senior and reserve grade is under 22 years old, and haven't lost a player for money in 3 years.
Our U/19s won a flag last season and the Colts are in a GF this weekend.

Battling Ammo clubs can survive and flourish with the right people in charge and the right culture around them.

See ya's next season

Little fact straightener. Clearly a merger, all things were on the table including jumper, song, and name, and if it wasn't for a couple of former OI players parents, the deal would have been done.

But it is good for the area to be strong again, but the now NFL will be rampant. Heidelberg's lack of success and Banyule's so called "warchest" may again bring pressure for players from both our clubs.

Two additions to this Maxy .......

The 'merger' was voted down at a gathering of IAFC players/members at the time with a very heavy 'no' vote recorded. So, a little more than a few parents.
Song and Jumper were up for discussion....but not alot of wriggle room on the name options :)

Anyway, it didn't happen for a multitude of reasons and both clubs remain in finals contention in their respective grades this weekend.

Chump.

Not exactly Maxy.
While it was certainly entertained the whole way through, a late change in attitude of how many members of the new entitys committee from each club stuffed it. It went from even numbers of both senior cubs and a junior rep to OI demanding 8 of theirs and 4 of us.
Takeover much?
Killed it dead from all the undecided guys on our side....thankfully .

There will always be NFL clubs vulturing but we haven't actually lost anyone for years now, and with the club on the rise expect us to maintain the nucleus if not everyone.
Oh.... and there is a certain fella closer to home we shall call 'the vaccum specialist' who has opened the chequebook in vain to a few of our blokes over the years too ;)
