That they didn't really work out doesn't change the fact that they were willing to come over. Anthony was putrid, Sylvia was obviously only interested in getting a season's pay out of us and D Pearce, try as he might, really isn't as good as he could have been - but none of that changes the fact that they signed with us. Mitch Clark came close until he was offered overs at Melbourne (and then Geelong) and was a bust at both clubs anyway.
And now we have McCarthy and B Hill saying they want to play here... who I'm fairly certain are the guys Lyon was referring to.
All we really need is a premiership, and then... watch what happens.

How do you feel about the more American approach where you want to trade players prior to falling out of contract? To mitigate the change of them leaving via free agency.
You guys should bounce back up the ladder next year, so I doubt any of your big names leave in free agency any way. But if they wont sign an extension now (is this even possible?) do you look at moving them? Because you guys have some players that the rest of the comp would basically hand a blank cheque to.
The problem is we need to attract premiership calibre players to our club in the first place to win a premiership to attract premiership calibre players to our club

Heh. Yeah.
Not entirely true though, most clubs get trades for big name players done after they win a premiership. Which often leads to the next period of sustained success.
But we are trying. You can't get sucked into paying overs for players like some others have just because we think we "need" to. I'm still hoping we don't get done on the Hill/McCarthy trades because the trade team is under too much pressure from fans to bring them in. If those players aren't worth what their original team is asking, then we don't get them and go back to the draft. No need to get stupid.

I'm not trying to sink the boots in on Ross but I think he is a bit ignorant of himself. The club itself may be ok, but his game plan and philosophies are not attractive to potential recruits.

I really hope so, i dont even concern about trade , simple game plan , and what cause so many calf injuries this season.
Should see some improvements at Cockburn. At present, south Freo colts, reserves and league plus community events plus Dockers use Freo oval and it can't help the surface to be used that much. Our new ground will be exclusively ours

Who needs Hogan?
If it was Lobbe I would still want Hogan but Lobb is a different story.
Maybe Roos should offer his old mate Rossy a nice pick for one of our players like Suban so we can package that up for Lobb and not be chasing Hogan anymore.
In the very unlikely scenario we get both Mccarthy and Lobb this trade period, we'll have 2 FWD/Rucks (Apeness the other) that can switch with each other and a forward line consisting of one of those plus Mccarthy, Tabs, Yarran, Walters and Ballas.

I dont think there is urgent neee of lobb , if our pre season involve 2 pitch ruck (apeness fwk/ ruck and a.pearce defence /ruck) . If both can take maybe 30% of ruck load from sandi. Draft two ruckmen to learn from sandi and play with peel.

Meima what is the game plan ? Give us all an explanation. You keep knocking the crap out of it so how about explaining it ,telling whats wrong with it and how in your opinion it can be fixed.
Whats with this talk of Ballas looking at options? Surely Freo through and through? 30 next year and isn't the same menacing, quick player from 2013/14.
Maybe he has been told his next contract will be reduced because of his age. Footy is a business and he has to feather his own nest
