It is an individual award. Not a team award, so I dont understand the logic of removing votes against Essendon. Any Drug cheat should be inelidgable, if you scored votes against drug cheats (not all the players took part, look at Zaha), why do you loose votes against people on another level?

People desperate to not have Cotchin as a brownlow medallist. (Like it matters)

To me it's like saying player x was suspended, so no one can get Brownlow votes when they play cause player x was inelidgable.

To me, the players of taking PEDs are just inelidgable. Nothing more.

Cotchin is not that good, but he is still head and shoulders above woewodin.

I'm 100% with you, he's ineligble for x reason, the reason is irrelevant.

Am I the only one that respects Watson more after this whole drugs saga than before? (Getting a bit sick and tired of the amount of crap him and the other Essendon players are copping on social media)

He appears to have always been upfront and honest in his interviews. Was the first player to admit they were injected with unknown substances. He has handed in his Brownlow medal (Hard to imagine many players doing that).

Personally I don't think the players should have been punished at all, You should be able to trust your own club and it's doctors. They signed forms believing that the supplements were legal and were told they were getting injected with something else entirely. Personally I am not sure what else they could have done? (If Fencing Australia or Victoria suggested suppliments to me and told me to take them to increase my chances of being on the team I would do it in a second if they told me they were safe).

This entire situation was the fault of the administrators, doctors, coaches and Dank, they players didn't deserve to get punished.

Nah, he had numerous opportunities to declare the injections to ASADA yet continually kept it a secret...he knew what they were doing was wrong yet allowed it to continue happening to him and all of his teammates. Not the actions of a true leader...

The whole worldwide anti-doping regime works on strict liability. Presumably to avoid a repeat of the East German situation.

There's just not that much at stake if only team doctors/administrators etc cop bans.

He only handed it back because the commission was meeting yesterday and would have stripped him of it. It is like being given the choice to resign or be fired for gross misconduct - resigning doesn't make you some sort of moral pillar of society. As J_Moore has correctly pointed out, players are responsible for what they put into their bodies. This is not some new or hidden rule, it is universally known and has been the case for a long time. Even beyond that, so many things should have created suspicion: unknown substances, secretive processes, waiver forms. He has also barely been penalised, continuing to receive full pay (which contravenes WADA rules) to take a holiday and make coffee. And even now he continues to say he has done nothing wrong, so he can't even accept fault and show contrition (which would earn him some respect). And on top of that, as the captain he was responsible for protecting his junior players, some of whom were just teenagers. Not having them inject themselves with substances not approved for human consumption.

He's a complete disgrace.

Xavier Richards wants to play at this club beside him!
After what has happen, I fail to see the attraction to this club for any future young player.

If Essendon drafted my son after what happened there, I would be devastated.

people betting on mitchell and cotchin should be entitled to a payout then. If done online there would be proof. If you threw your slip out bad luck. Just make it no winner and move on

No lol. I have already won on the 'winner' haha

I reckon I'd be the opposite.

They would have been forced into adopting tighter controls, stricter policies & more transparent governance in the wake of such an event. I'd suspect no other club now has in place the level of governance & liability control the EFC would have implemented to prevent such horrible situations from arising again.

The eyes & ears of many stakeholders would have been (& still are) keenly focused at the EFC and how they dealt with & will continue to deal with the enviroment, culture & governance of such matters. They in effect would be the last club I'd suspect of wrongdoing regarding such things for the short to medium term simply due to the cleanout & rebuilding of the club & it's policies & procedures following this. At the very least, their insurer would require updated safeguards & an increased level of confidence that such a thing is unlikely to happen again.

Other clubs haven't been through the cleaners like that. They haven't had the majority of their board & administration, coaches etc replaced etc.

I think the EFC would almost be the safest club in the league now regarding the possibility of illegal performance enhancing activities.
