Why do you say that? I can't see any reason why he won't be.

Andre is on the money. His injury is not helping the Giants cause. Will be disappointed if he goes as i rate him as potentially our best defender

With the obvious intrest we had in him last year and the reports that were also into Marchbank in a big way (and going by our two clubs recent form with trading), I wouldnt be shocked if we didnt dangle something out there for a mutually beneficial trade.

Conventional wisdom is we're going to have pick 1 or 2. Also pick 19/20 odd, and maybe a PP around the end of the 1st round as well (we'll certainly ask for one - whether we get it or not is a different question).

Assuming this holds up, there is some talk about sending pick 1/2 and 2 picks around the 20 mark your way in exchance for Tommo, Marchbank and two of your (currently) three mid first rounders.

Would give you guys the chance to use pick 1/2 on best available in the draft before academy bids kick in (unless someone bids on an academy player at pick 1), and then have a bunch of picks in the late teens/ early 20's (picks 19 and 21 from us, whatever Freo hand over for Macarthy and the Geelong 1st round pick) to spend on your two academy boys (bids at the early stages expected in the top 10 for both) leaving you with enough points for a player or two in the top 25.

Works out to be (roughly) pick 2, 19 and 21 [4,200 points] for (Thommo, Marchbank, 6 and 12) [3000 points plus players].

You get full value for pick 2 (taking best available) and then can use (Freo pick @13 for Macarthy, Geelong pick @15, Carlton picks @19+21) to pay for your two academy blokes (at a 25 percent discount) and still have enough points left over to grab two more players inside the top 25.

Just tossing some thoughts out there.

If that was feasible I wouldn't mind it. I think Petrevski-Seton has something we don't have but I'd be sh*tting myself to draft another Western Australian! Ainsworth looks like a good prospect as well who could go close to pick 1.

Reckon we are going to need a heap of points to get all the Academy kids in.

Marchbank is a tremendous mark and has that intuitive ability to read the play that all great defenders have. He also uses the ball well by foot in spite of having an ungainly kicking action and plays like he has more time.

Kid from a small town in Benalla...still remember his mum smiling through clenched teeth when his name got drafted.

Well reasoned except for the fact Marchbank won't be on the table. Young, highly rated and has been playing games and showed plenty.

The players that can potentially be pried away are Tomlinson, WHE, Barrett if they can't establish themselves in the best 22. With McCarthy going home we won't have to get rid of anyone else.

Pick 1 won't hold great appeal I wouldn't think. We can get a couple of very good young key position players. We have some gun mids waiting in the wing in Ahearn, Pickett, Kennedy and hopper who are yet to play a game.

If we do much trading I can see use trying to stock up on future picks similar to this year. Ensure a constant stream of quality young kids are coming to the club as we rise up the ladder

The problem is that youll have a crapload of talented 1st round kids, who wont be getting games - taking into account the young talent already on your list and the shrinking list size over the next few years. And a lot of them are going to want to head home and will be fielding big offers to do so(if were being honest here). On that topic, you blokes did the right thing last year to make a stand with Macarthy. That said, with pick 1/2 you can grab a Petrovski Seton or Ainsworth (or whomever you want) plus the academy kids (who have know where they're going for a bit, and have been in the system with you blokes for some time, s more exposire for your staff, and less of a go home factor for the Riverena kids).

Basically its a free swing at whomever you want in the draft (including the best player in it) points to pay for the academy picks and a few early second rounders to round it out. From early looks at it youve got two more this year - a top ten and top four pick.

It could be one of those 'win win' trades. We have a massive problem with depth (hence grabbing bundles of your kids for low picks of late) and you blokes dont need a scattergun of picks anymore, you need a focus on needs with as much talent into them as possible.

I woulnt be shocked to see something like this at the end of the year. A lot of water to go under the bridge first of course.

So 1200 points for players picked 9 in 2011 and 6 in 2014... Id have thought Marchbank is at least worth 1200 points , he is only in year 2 and P6 is worth 1751... be a great deal if GWS agree to that.

If GWS wanted to just trade for points , Id hope Geelong look into getting their R1 back. If GFC finish at 15 for instance (1112) , id be willing to give more points than that to get it back. Our R2 and Bris. R3 would is a good start , perhaps we add something for to ensure a points win for GWS.

Problem is they have to cycle through that R2 and R3 pick to make it worth while. Once they bid it kills the next pic, then the one after then the one after tha until the point are paid. You cant just throw a ton of 5th round picks at a bid to pay for it.

Thats why theyll want to hold onto Geelongs pick, plus add as many picks around 20 as they can. Theyll hold Geelongs 1st rounder and use it on (whomever they want) if there are no bids. It there are, theyll have to cash it in on that player, then the next pick down the line and so forth (with the 25 percent discount).

A top 3 pick (as long as there arent any bids) in effect gives them a free hit at the top 3 players in the draft. After they lock him in, they just play the waiting game, confident they can match any bids with the plethora of late 1st and early 2nd round picks they have, and still retain enough 2nd round picks to grab another player or two after (Petrovski Seton, 2 x academy players) are locked in.

Currently they miss out on a top 3 pick (unless collingwood go totally **** up) and their first pick is likey to see a bid before it gets used (reducing its value and pushing it back in the draft). By uptrading in the draft, they get a free hit at picks 1-3 (assuming no earlier bids) and then get to pay for academy players with the remaining 1st rounders and early (as in start of) second rounders (with the 25 percent discount), while still retaining enough top 25 pick points to grab another player or two in that bracket.

Didnt they offer a pick around 10 for Tomlinson alone last year?

So now thats changed to 2 top 10 players plus 2 more first round picks all for pick 1-2 and a pick in the 20's. the flip??

Have heard he has battled homesickness and yet to re-sign.

Like him a lot but Macreadie will be a like for like replacement if he goes.
.

When talking about future picks, I'm reminded of the old adage "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." Thats why Marchbank is of more value than future pick Macreadie. ( off topic_ "homesickness' wasn't much talked about during the Lambert's management, now its a valid want away reason again.)

It was still there though

The only area where we currently lack depth is quality key backs. Trading away a best 22 key back in Marchbank would only be creating a need for us rather than allowing us to focus on filling one.

All of his sisters live in Melbourne (3 or 4). he will move in with one of them.

Am aware they are a very close family, was told not long after he was drafted by a person connected to Benalla FC. If he goes then somebody needs to be sacked because the due diligance of overlooking the go home factor in this case is pretty ordinary. Jake Lever looks to have settled in Adelaide with no dramas.

As good as we are and we are bloody good some of the drafting up high by SOS was pretty shaky. Anyways it's always easy in hindsight I guess!! Neville did a lot better with the 17yos
