GWS were bulldozed in contested possession by the Dogs in the prelim - a team younger and with fewer games experience than them. They obviously want some experienced players that can commit to the contest.

I think you're right but I also think they've overreacted a touch but I guess they can afford to with their list.

Mz and MDB will be depth imo and brought in more to just be positive influences around the group and club more so than as players in their first 22.

Mdb is depth for the departed Rhys palmer .

I think that prelim result goes the other way if Palmer was replaced by de Boer
I go further do said , if deboer play GWS will be premier in 2016. I thought Deboer handball was brilliant for peel in final series , with fast runner with him in gWS , he don't need to kick that much.

I must admit I was feeling some sympathy for James Hird the other day but after reading what his father has since come out and said on Melbourne's 3AW I'm back to my original position.

His father is acting like a complete tosser. What kind of parent comes out and uses the situation as an opportunity for a political message? Seriously reminded me of Michael Jackson's father who used his death to garner some publicity for his latest product.

Why aren't their PR minders guiding them? When you do the wrong thing (as a person in a position of power), you take responsibility for it. The sooner you do, the less the situation will blow out of proportion. Continually trying to blame it on everyone around you as if you are the innocent party was a dumb move from the start... His father has only re-opened old wounds. You can't attack a bunch of people and ask for privacy at the same time! Seems like dumb decisions run in the family. He needs to do his son a favour and stay out of the media.

Hindsight is 20/20, but if Hird had resigned at the beginning on the basis that his position was untenable, he would have had about 12 months out, possibly copped a suspension and moved on with his life. He could have blamed Dank and lamented the loss of his career and been considered a martyr for the club or a victim of the snake oil salesman in Dank. He could have got a gig in the media or even be back at the club by now. Instead he took a ridiculous appeal to the Full Federal Court and then the Swiss Supreme Court on the basis that he was the golden boy who was above any sanction. It says a lot that Essendon's insurers refused to pay for his legal fees. His situation is very unfortunate in that it's obviously had very serious implications for his mental health, but this could have been handled so much better than it was by both Hird and the people advising him.

I do feel sorry for Hird, but it's certainly not the AFL's fault that he's in this sad situation.

I'm still waiting for Hird's much promised, "When the truth comes out, I'll be in a good place."

He still spouts this but never actually tells us what this alleged truth is...and until he does instead of avoiding the issue he'll never regain his credibility because the assumption people make from him not telling us is that he has something to hide.

Heaven is a good place, no?

They all should've done what Cronulla Sharks did and copped it on the chin and not fight it. Worked out well for them in the end.

Yes it did indeed.

As a Sharkies fan I wasnt happy at what went on in the first place - but clubs will always push things to the extreme to train to gain an edge.
Cronulla Sharks basically undertook a similar program as the Essendon football club. Instead of fighting it every step of the way the club took it on the chin - was punished for the 2014 season.

Player turnover and new signings come 2016 Premiers. Essendon was finally bottoming out in 2016.

It's all a bit of a joke. Essendon might as well be sponsored by the Russian government.
