Interesting. I would assume (cbf'ed doing the research) we are conceding a lot more though?? This is the biggest concern, for mine.

I think Hale's ability to use his body and negate opposition ruckmen is severely underrated and what we miss the most. He may not have won big numbers in the hit outs but opposition ruckmen didn't have it easy either which impacted their ability to put the ball where they wanted too.
Last year we were conceding 71pts per game
This year it's 79.

I have a real problem with Vickery types. Name one one ruck size forward since Paul Salmon that has been a massive success? And he was back in the iso-forward days. Petrie has had a great career but has never torn the league apart. Tippett is just ok and is better now as a ruck. Tom Boyd wants to be a ruck. Joe Danniher looks promising but I still would not want him.

They are tall and thats it. They take the odd high mark and when they get a step on the lead it is hard for defenders to reach the ball. Other than that they are useless. They cannot impose any defensive pressure because they simply do not have the speed, agility or anything resembling lateral movement.

I really do not understand why all of them are so overpriced. Because every single one of them under delivers.

Hale?

Buddy was and still is an absolute champ. JOM could be but no comparison
They knew what they were getting with Franklin. We don't with JOM. Hasn't played in 2 years. Massive risk for mine.

No comparison to Burgoyne for people stating that as well.

Strongly disagree. Did they know Buddy had mental health issues and would pull out of a finals series? They must have heard all the rumours and done some homework before agreeing to paying a bloke 10% of the salary cap for the next 9 years....

It was and still is a massive risk for the swans. Perhaps if he helps them win a flag this year then they will say the risk has paid of....

We would be potentially risking paying a bloke for 3 years reasonably big money but the reward would be unbelievable if he could get somewhere back near peak fitness.

The Swans would love Omeara and to suggest they wouldn't take a risk we are kidding ourselves.

Goes to show mitchell is a must get now, even though i have sceptical of O'Meara we also must go after him, our inside presence is disappearing and so is the tackle pressure.

Really hope we don't pick up Vickery. Folks comparing him to Hale seem to be forgetting he was a very smart footballer (now an assistant coach at Freo) whereas Vickery has almost as much football IQ as a Labrador.

Disagree. We can only do what our ladder position enables us to do. Will Vickery be as good as Hale? Probably not. Is he a better forward marking option than any of our current talls? Yes. And that's is a major problem on our list right now.

We don't have a lot to trade with so free agency needs to be used. Vickery is no star but he is a worthwhile target.

I would welcome the move if we were to secure Vickery, he is coming from a dead set shambles of a footy club and he has shown on occasions that he can play, he is big and strong and is a pretty good kick for goal (when he is switched on) I would back Clarko and our system to squeeze the very best out of him, he is a 2-3 goal a game forward if he can find that consistency in his game and I reckon we will be able to help him find it, go for it I say

I'd like us to grab in no particular order

O'Meara
Mitchell
Tomlinson

Would cover a lot of our deficiencies in one period but would likely cost us a fair amount. Losing Hill will get us something to use towards making it happen.

Tomlinson would be a perfect fit at CHB.
Elite foot skills, looks like a Hawks player during play.
Perfect replacement for Gibbo

Vickery to Hawks according to Darcy.
I'm not sure where I stand with this one. Please, someone convince me we are doing the right thing if it's true.
All I can say is that there was similar calls about how it was a bad move, the player is rubbish, etc, etc when we picked up Hale. Our football department staff have the runs on the board with picks like this. I'm prepared to put faith in them that they can make Vickery shine in our system.

He is free (pick-wise) and hopefully cheap. It's going to be tough to adjust though because every time I have seen him interviewed I have thought to myself what a big douchebag he was. Oh well.

Hey that's offensive... to labradors
