Oh no. I fully understand that you must give up some quality to get quality.... But not Puopolo!

Much prefer Sicily or Bruest was on the table than Puop.

Maybe I over rate him, but Puop and a first rd pick is overs for JOM...

If you think Poppy is worth more than Breust, yes you massively overate him.

"If" true it makes sense to trade him, he's will be 29 by round 1 and is in the bottom few players at the club.

Poppy has gotten everything out of his talent and has been a warrior for our club. He is a good small forward. However, he is older both Breust and Sicily and has a lower ceiling.

If this rumour is true then it's a good outcome for mine.

While Poppy is one of my favourites, this could be a good decision for him to accrue a good pension for why he retires. As far as the club goes, I remember when Brown was on the way out everybody thought his desperation and ball attack was irreplaceable - along came Poppy. Well I believe we have a couple at Box Hill who would fight for Poppy's spot, and if this helped us get JOM, well I believe it's a win for Poppy and Hawthorn.

Sadly I must agree. He is 29. As you say more future in Breust and Sicily, plus quite a lot of our young ones would seem to be small/medium forward types. If he can get a 2-3 year contract on good dollars, it would be a good outcome for all.

I am the opposite.

I hate losing any player but if it came down to those 3 you would trade Poppy in a heartbeat.

Yeah I'm with you. I won't like it, but I'd understand it. Kade Stewart for starters looked like he could play that defensive forward position

If it is poppy that is a great result for us. Yes he is A Star but we need to start building towards the 2018/19/20 seasons and with his age I think he can be let go. We have Stewart and hardwick on our list who could develop into that pressure forward

At least you can't say we are willing to give up quality, and personally, from this point in time, losing Poppy could be far better for us than losing Sicily who has his whole future in front of him and we have no idea of how good he could become.

On JOM and TMitchell do we know if they were/are mates at all? They played for WA together in 2011, they would been a year level apart but it would be great if these boys are mates coming in together, does anyone know???

if it's Poppy retirement fund time I can live with that. Speed and effort are major parts of his game and no idea how much longer he will keep them. The sad part is this was probably his best year where he showed skill and smarts to go with his aggression and effort.

We'd lose some pace and strength as well in that part of the ground

I love him too and even if traded he will always Hawthorn through and through for me.

Surely we are not letting poppy go. Hed be one of the first picked week in week out for mine. Its clear clarko loves him too.
Perhaps had his best year of footy to date too.

On SM-G900I using BigFooty.com mobile app
Poppy 29 yrs old
Punky 26 yrs old
Sisily 22yrs old

Any decision on a player is a hard decision, but when you include age it sometimes becomes a little easier

I agree on retirement fund but the key in your post for me was 'this was probably his best year'
Best year = highest trade value
at 29 he's not going to get any better

I tell you if we give up Sicily it's going to be as big if not a bigger mistake then when we lost Kennedy.

People say he plays a similar role to Gunston, I think every team in the comp would lick their lips at the prospect of two Gunners running around their forward line.

If we get Vickery then Sicily and Gunston become so much more dangerous for us, Sicily will take the 3rd tallest defender and after seeing glimpses of what he can do after his first proper season I would dare say he would be good for 40+ if not even 50+ goals next year.

Don't do it Hawks

You can't even compare the two. One is an elite AFL forward who is also elite at forward pressure, the other is an average player with horrendous forward pressure.. trade him I say.

Brett Anderson on SEN thinks we may be looking at MacKenzie. Also said we were a suitor for hooker and were outbid by bombers.

I had a feeling we would be looking at a KPD. Also would explain brands situation

Hmmm looks like Im in the minority on this one. No worries.

I thought Puop had a career year this year. Maybe now is a good time to put him on the block after all...

To be fair, I hadn't realised Puopolo was as old as he is...

Just out of curiosity. Swans fans keep saying that when the TPP clears they will be able to offer Tom more around the $400,000 mark. Would that information increase the Hawks offer when it comes down? As in we have offered him a set % of our salary cap where it is set right now, if TPP increase wouldnt the amount we are offering go up as well as the % would remain the same?

I love Poppy to bits, but if he gets some good coin to see out his career and we get JOM , I hope we get it done.

Poppy is 29 and in the last third of his career. We can fill his spot with someone like Hardwick, Stewart, Miles,Woody,Langford or play one of the veterans out of the forward pocket from a structural standpoint. I'm ok with him leaving for similar reasons to passing on Hanley (28 in November and a hbf - a position we have covered).

Bloke is always going to be a 3peat premiership legend of the club.

It's basically a done deal with JOM, Ashcroft says it without actually saying it.

#WaitingForTOMNews

2 down Tom to go!

How did you get that, from that tweet? haha

"We're nowhere near the end point in both of those regards. We've had discussions and we'll continue to have discussions."

Seems like there is plenty to go in the trade. I think both trades will drag on for quite a while.

JOM based on GC demands. Titch based on Sydney seeing if they can free up cap space to keep him.
