It would be beyond terrible if it didn't sell out (it will though...and if not, the last few thousand tickets will be given away anyways).

A couple of weeks ago I was home sick and the morning breakfast show on channel nine were offering half? priced tickets if you used the code word "today".......hugely discounting GRAND FINAL tickets well before the teams are even finalised....wtf!

I am not making an anti NRL point ( in fact I quite like league as a game ) but they do have a real problem in their Sydney/NSW heartland.

Finals attendances in Sydney have been deplorable and held up by discounting.

South Sydney - arguably the most famous club in NSW averaged 10K per home game. It is lamentable. The other biggest Sydney clubs ( Dragons, Tigers Bulldogs) can't draw an average over 15K.

In the long term there is no point having facebook or instagram likers and decent ratings if the product simply cannot enthuse an audience.

It's not just attendances but the NRL ratings in Sydney are lamentable and have been for some time. Not even 500K tuned into the Roosters game from Sydney including Fox.

GWS managed to get 30% the viewers the Roosters got. GWS was shown on a secondary channel and in a non prime timeslot.

Serious question....willl the NRL sell out the GF. A Vic side V a Qld side?

This would be the NRL equivalent of GWS v Gold Coast.

I did laugh when you have a look at tickets there's a statement there saying 'This event is dynamically priced. Prices are subject to change'.
You'd have to be mental to pay the prices they're charging now - they're charging about the same as the AFL GF. They're going to drop significantly as the week progresses.

SatTV #AFLTigersGIANTS
7/7mate 1.428m M: 1.097m (Syd 86k Mel 609k Bri 54k Ade 200k Per 148k) Reg 331k (Q 29k NSW 18/37k V 135k T 75k WA 37k)
STV National 552k: Metro 449k (Syd 64k Mel 219k Bri 57k Ade 48k Per 61k)
= 1.98m

400k less than the GWS v Bulldogs prelim last year.

Both prelims rated less than their 2016 versions.

I bought a family ticket for the NRL GF mid year for $220. Not even a club member. Can't compare to AFL.

What difference does that make (apart from how much revenue the AFL get)?

Don't get me wrong, for a sell out type game I think this is the worst the MCC has got it in quite a while -- clearly they should have had more visitors tickets for sale or opened up entry for provisional members (perhaps they could even have tried this on the day once they saw how the reserve was filling, similar to what they do with restricted members on GF day). It's just something that irritates me, the assumption that whatever the crowd is short of 100K is always completely the MCC's fault.
The difference being there were Richmond AFL members who missed out going to the match, any MCC member could have gone with ease.

So it's not actually about how many people get to the game in your opinion? You'd just feel better if all the tickets were sold and then people didn't rock up?

It is their ground after all. Personally I don't care how many MCC members turn up, they have earned the right to have a section of ground for their use only

In the MCC section? I think (and you posted this as well) they give way too many seats to walk up areas and make it impossible to fill. The ground holds 100k, but its the MCC Walk up section that lets it down every single time.

And they pay alot to get that. But how many big games that are a sell out in every other section of the stadium are let down by MCC walk ups not showing up? How long before They start losing access to some of those bays?

I'll post it again:

The AFL members were just as short as the MCC, so how come this thread only has people bitching about the MCC?

Both were disappointing. I have mentioned Scalpers in the AFL members section in this thread already. I had 2 seats next to me not used so I called a friend who was sitting on his own to join me.

However there is a difference in the AFL members having all tickets sold but 1000 people not showing up in comparison to the 6 or 7 rows of seats empty at the top of the MCC stand because there wasn't enough demand for the walk up tickets.

What nonsense. It's not their ground and it is an appalling outcome that people miss out on prelims and grand finals because people who pay no more than premium football club members do can retain anachronistic walk up rights

I just don't understand what difference it makes, aside from the AFL getting more money. Does it somehow make people feel better that the tickets were sold and not used? Both in real numbers and as a percentage figure, the MCC reserve was actually fuller than the AFL reserve.

Anyway, I think we're going around in circles here, so this will be my last post on the topic. Good luck to your mob next Saturday.

One was sold out. Those seats that weren't filled COULDN'T be filled by people who wanted to go. The empty seats from the MCC were because those that COULD go didn't want to.

The MCC manages the MCG and has done since the 1850's.
Their members are fully entitled to have entry to the ground

One for the wookie

I would suspect it hasn't happened often. Scary thing is most the afl games have been fizzers. It's more due to league ratings falling away
I suspect SoO is killing rugbycasual viewers. Why watch a team you don't care about when the premium product is blues vs maroons?
