So a club with a top 5 pick was talking to a player expected to go in the first 5 picks?

Wow. What a scoop.

Cerra will slip to us out of the 4, and I think we choose Stephenson over him, if that ends up being the case.

I was against this a few weeks back but his last month of footy as a mid has me rethinking. Had a really consistent last 4 games and if this continues into the finals then I wouldn't be against going with him at 4.

Pick 4 is a bit of a funny spot. We have to take the best available at that pick so it all comes down to who Brisbane, GC & Carlton pick.

The go home factor might play a role. I know there's a belief among interstate clubs that if you draft someone from Victoria, they're more likely to stay if they're from the country. They believe the city lads feel the pull more.

Priorities for mine with pick 4:

1. Rayner
2. Dow
3. LDU
4. Higgins
5. Cerra
6. Stephenson

Priorities for pick 20
1. Fogarty (rumour suggests he is slipping)
2. Hunter Clark
3. Charlie Constable (may still be available)
4. Lachie O'Brien
5. Joel Garner
6. Brayshaw (think he'll be long gone)

TAC Cup team of the year:

B: Ben Paton (Murray), Mitch Podhajski (Calder), Joel Garner (Eastern)
HB: Hunter Clark (Dandenong), Oscar Clavarino (Dandenong), Nick Coffield (Northern)
C: Lachlan Fogarty (Western), James Worpel (Geelong), Patrick Naish (Northern)
HF: Jaidyn Stephenson (Eastern), Noah Balta (Calder), Luke Davies-Uniacke (Dandenong)
F: Gryan Miers (Geelong), Cameron Rayner (Western), Jack Higgins (Oakleigh)
FOLL: Sam Hayes (Eastern), Adam Cerra (Eastern), Paddy Dow (Bendigo)
INT: Charlie Constable (Sandringham), David Handley (Geelong), Lloyd Meek (Ballarat)
Callum Porter (Gippsland), Cassidy Parish (Geelong), Dylan Moore (Eastern)

James Worpel was named Skipper

LDU is much more than just a big inside mid. He's quick, a good kick and has a fantastic leap plus the courage to fly for contested marks. I reckon he's exactly what we need, can rotate FWD/ mid with JZ from round 1next year
Can kick on both feet too.

Luke Davies-Uniacke
Midfielder
Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country
187cm/85kg
8/6/99

A leading contender for the No.1 pick. The competitive midfielder can find the ball consistently at stoppages and has the capacity to turn on his pace and explode out of a clearance with the ball tucked under his arm. After overcoming a shoulder injury from the end of last season, Davies-Uniacke has pieced together a strong season so far and showed his capabilities as a midfielder able to win the ball and use it on the outside. His size will also appeal as a likely early selection.

Luke DAVIES-UNIACKE – Dandenong Stingrays
DOB: 8/6/99 | Ht: 187.3cm | Wt: 85.5kg

Davies-Uniacke has been an elite talent from his early years on the Mornington Peninsula but had a raft of injuries that left him questioning as a 16-year-old whether footy was for him. Thankfully for football, he stuck with it, although he does love a day of surfing.

Davies-Uniacke can win the ball on the inside and spread to the outside quickly. He can exit from the stoppage on either foot — has excellent balance and a good technique from hand to foot — and has shown the ability to mark overhead.

His second half of the season hasn't been up to the standard of his earlier outings, but in spurts has still been able to demonstrate a high level skill set.

Gun midfielder for Haileybury - tipped to be a top end pick... just like this guy:

He and Dow are porbably the most well balanced mids in the draft. Neither go to ground very often and both of them run hard on the outside to provide an option. Really hoping we end up with LDU if we don't get Kelly, he'll play in our midfield from round 1 next year.
