Richmond were 14,784 ahead of Essendon in 2016. They are 5,017 ahead this year. Historically (probably via 'junk' 3 game memberships) Essendon have had stronger membership growth after the inception of the season than Richmond (in 2012-15 the Essendon's increased by 7-11k from now), so it's possible that this gap could close to within 3,000.

Sad to see the Blues falling of the cliff - need a big name signing off season

need not to treat members and supporters like imbeciles by constantly showing up for their sole traditional home game like a bunch on no talent vagabonds. Casual supporters are fed up with the long term plans and potential and feel good bullshit. Its been 15 years since the salary cap crap went down, and for the most part we are still rank amateurs.

Yeah cos we've been so bad in the first 2 months of every season for years. Hardly sell once the season starts if you win 2 of the first 8 usually. Winning does a lot. Think we're on about 67k now.

Perhaps Essendon should have used a photo of a Essendon great doing the old Teddy Whitten - 'lets stick it right up them' in reference to the AFL or ASADA for their bumper stickers.

BTW googling that phrase gives you some interesting sites :)

Ha ha.... I think the key point is that many Essendon supporters are coming back to the club this year.. Coteries are at record levels as we'll. Membership will likely surpass 65,000 at higher yield than last year so this will translate well in the P&L. I think there's another level again as performances start to look more like premiership / top 4 potential again.

History was made today when the Western Bulldogs membership soared past 40,000, four months ahead of the date it reached the milestone mark for the first time last year.

A count today revealed the total membership as 40,736 and climbing - a new club record, surpassing last year's previous high of 40,082.

That's over 9,000 more than at the same time 2016 (31,595 on April 5th) - an increase of 29 per cent - and in excess of 14,000 more than 2015's comparative figure (26,625 on April 6th), a two-year increase of 53 per cent.

The 2017 season has seen all membership products with a Grand Final guarantee sold out (EJ Whitten Social Club, Charles Sutton Premiership Circle, Top Dogs, Player Sponsors), and a 29 per cent increase on 2016 for reserved seats.

This year has also seen an increase of more than 60 per cent in new members joining the pack.

Lions reaching 20,688. Hoping if we can string a few wins maybe lure a few bandwagoners and maybe push for 23/24k.
