Broncos coach Vance Joseph says he’s ready to try field goals from record-breaking distances this season.

After Broncos kicker Brandon McManus nailed a 73-yard field goal in practice on Friday, Joseph said he wouldn’t hesitate to let McManus try a field goal from 70 yards or beyond in a game.

Of course,” Joseph said when asked about trying field goals from that distance in the regular season. “Whatever wins games, we want to go for it.”

The mile-high elevation in Denver makes kicking long field goals easier, and the Broncos’ training camp in Englewood, Colorado, is actually at a slightly higher elevation than their home field in Denver. So when Joseph says he’d try field goals from 70 yards and beyond during the season, he’s surely talking only about home games.

But if Joseph is willing to take the chance of giving the opposing team good field position, McManus could easily break the record for the longest field goal in NFL history. That record, 64 yards, was set by Matt Prater in Denver. Joseph may let McManus try to break that record by five or 10 yards.

Would Teddy Bridgewater welcome a trade to the Dolphins?

A year after Teddy Bridgewater‘s torn ACL forced the Vikings to scramble in late August for a replacement, a possible torn ACL suffered by Ryan Tannehill may compel the Dolphins to do the same. What if the Dolphins would trade for Bridgewater?

While the Dolphins seem to be focused for now on free agents in lieu of getting fleeced by another team, there’s a chance Bridgewater would welcome the chance to return home to South Florida. As noted by Aj Mansour of KFAN.com, Bridgewater “liked” a tweet advocating for a trade that would bring him to the Dolphins.

Bridgewater later unliked the tweet from former NFL defensive back DeMarcus Van Dyke, but Bridgewater then dropped a trio of his own tweets reflecting positivity and, ultimately, declaring, “I can sense God is about to perform another miracle in my life.”

It would arguably be more than a miracle if the Dolphins choose to roll the dice on a Vikings quarterback with a bum knee. Eleven years ago, they shipped a second-round selection to Minnesota for Daunte Culpepper and his torn knee ligament trifecta, telling free agent Drew Brees and his 26-studded shoulder, “No thanks.”

The deeper message here could be that, even if a Miami homecoming (and a DeVante Parkerreunion) isn’t in the cards for Bridgewater, who has yet to pass a physical and could start the regular season on the PUP list, the guy who one year ago was regarded as the starter in Minnesota for the next decade or more could be scoping out the next step of a career cut short in the Land of 10,000 Lakes by a shredded ACL and a $100 million replacement who has never really performed to that level.

The Dolphins are "close to a deal" with retired QB Jay Cutler.

The sides are working out a "small gap" in money. Cutler was reportedly leaning toward retirement, but it sounds like the Dolphins upped their offer. He'll be reunited with Adam Gase in Miami assuming the deal gets done. Cutler's signing would mean Ryan Tannehill (knee) is done for the year.

Cutler is gonna win the AFCE.
Seriously tho. I think the Dolphins could/will sweep NE this year based on NE's schedule at that point of the season

If Cutler can play like a more experienced version of what he was in Denver (also the fact that his year with Gase was like his best year) then they could be dangerous, but I'd still say they'd finish a game or 2 behind NE at 10-6ish

Don't write 'em off! Everyone hates on Cutler but I reckon he's better than most QBs in the league. Still.

Cutler played well two seasons ago under Gase. Didn't have as many weapons as he has at Miami. Jeffrey was missed half the year, other receivers were no names.

Dolphins have done well as well as they could to replace Tannehill this late in pre season.

Having said that, they didn't beat much during their six game winning streak last season so I think the 10-6 was a little flattering

According to the Houston Chronicle, Tom Savage is "clearly" ahead of rookie Deshaun Watson through two weeks of Texans camp.

The Chronicle's John McClain says Savage "has been terrific" in practice, showing an ability to "make every throw," is "respected by teammates," and "knows this offense" better than the rookie. Savage remains the tentative favorite to start Week 1, but we don't expect him to last long. In Weeks 1-3, the Texans will likely struggle to move the ball versus Jacksonville, at Cincinnati, and at New England. A ready-made game for Watson to start would be Week 4 at home against the Titans.

After speaking with Broncos personnel, Yahoo's Charles Robinson reports Paxton Lynch is being outplayed by Trevor Siemian at training camp.

Citing observers of the Broncos' practice tape, Robinson reports "Lynch has lost every single practice session to Siemian." Siemian remains a capped-ceiling commodity, but Lynch simply hasn't taken the step forward the Broncos had hoped. Robinson does acknowledge the competition remains "unsettled," and there's a chance things click for Lynch in preseason games. Still, at this point in time Siemian is the favorite to start in Week 1.
