I was already 28 when young Boomer hit Arden St, looking like a pre-teen club mascot with oodles of talent.

My son starts Auskick early in the morning and I asked him which number he wanted on his new jumper, as he doesn't want to dirty his Boomer 427 jumper which Brent signed for him. He said "Boomer's 29. He's my favourite dad." An argument ensued as my daughter slammed him with "He doesn't even play for North anymore ya idiot!" That didn't matter to him.

So I get it. He's made an enormous impression on the younger generation. But, he made the same impression on us older types, with the difference being that we've seen legends develop, play for years then depart, so we knew already that a 39yr old was on borrowed time. The club's fortunes fast tracked it and I'm bloody rapt he's so closely involved in the development of the next generation of stars despite his disappointment late last year.

The little bloke is still undecided FWIW, after I said he should select a younger bloke who he can watch develop and star for years. It's between BBB and Froggy, simply because he likes the nickname.

Membership numbers will bounce back.
Kids are more resilient than their parents about most things, though! We like to give our U11 boys jumper numbers of their favourite AFL players if we can. Last year I looked after my two North boys (one of them Nick Bowen's son) with jumpers 8 and 20. This season I didn't know what to offer them, but one is happily wearing Drew's 20 again and the other saw no reason not to stick with Wellsy's number. We don't need to burden them with our nutty ideas about betrayal and sorrow.

Dare I say the attitude of some here is perilously close to the famous old Geoff Walsh maxim? :p
Not from me mate, though I can understand why it might feel like it's a similar 'moral imperative'. Sorry if it's coming across this way.

It would seem from the comments of many that Boomer was more venerated than I thought, vis-a-vis the club itself. It would seem to many 'he was the club', so to speak.

Which is really stupid but as H2H so articulately put, the club did pump that narrative up a lot.

all come to mind as good numbers moving forward.

Gotta be worth a few resignings surely.
A win over Sydney and Melbourne of a similar nature would surely see us crack 40k
It would be great to get a bump in membership in light of recent results. However, instead of putting the names of those who sign up from this point on their membership cards, they should bear the words "post 0-5 bandwagoner".

When is membership cut off?

If we can claw our way back to even by about round 10 or 12 I'd suggest we'd get a pretty decent influx of people wanting to jump back on board.

The answer as usual to any membership dilemma is 'just f***ing win'.

End of June, for final tally purposes.

Those signing up now more likely to be 1-3 games etc. As others have said we don't know the real membership outcome until the following year and the accounts are released. Still nothing like winning at a sporting club to solve all sorts of issues.

Will we make it to 39,000, let alone 40k?
I and my 2 boys usually by 1 each, but this year, one of the boys (uni student), is playing for the first time in a couple of seasons and won't get to any games and funds are tight, so won't be renewing.
Rather than dropping, out i'm going to buy one for him. Is there anyone else in a similar predicament? Is there anyone on this board that isn't a member
(i'd doubt it), we need to find at least another 500, surely we can do that!
