Why was Apeness good?
I am very impress with his marking but not so with his goalkicking .

My current preference , tall forward

Tab apeness cam Mac. Kersten maybe still got some effect of food poison look lazy. Cox pretty good for a first year players . TBH everybody play well or OK no criticism from me.

Sean Darcy won't be ready for freo best 22 yet but got every possibility he will be fast track, Luke Ryan look very calm with his disposal . Ethan also got plenty of the ball today also .

I really can't wait for AFL and wafl to start to support the old and the young plus the leader.

And den....

Tabs was the standout with some big pack marks incl out marking Fyfe in one contest . Darcy Tucker and Blakely stood out for the younger brigade. Langdon used pace to get plenty of the ball but fumbled a couple of times. Darcy rucked well against Griff and kicked a goal. Apeness ruck and forward. Also took a nice mark and goaled.
Of the Ould hands Fyfe,Sonny,Ballas,Mundy,Ibbo,Johnno and Spurr played well. McCarthy had a tough time against Logue in the first half but managed a couple of goals. Logue really impressed in the first half but went onto Tabs in the second half and found Tabs height advantage hard to handle. In saying that Logue was excellent and the consensus amongst the watchers was he will play early in the season. Hamling played a half and looked great,Kersten looked lethargic, did not get a lot of the ball. Good skills and a good hit out. Impressive first up showing.
Bennell,Sandi,Nyhuis,Ballic and I think Deluca in the rehab group. Uber walking laps and Zac C in the gym.

How did the Hill bros look Salim?

How did the Hill bros look Salim?

Great, forgot about them. Brad all over the place with run and carry, Stephen OK, not as noticeable as bros Brad. Must mention Brady Grey who put in a whole hearted effort. Lachie Neale also kicked a couple of goals and showed he had shaken of any effects from his pre season surgeries.

Did Suban continue his scintillating form of preseason? Does he look like a best 22 off the bench?

I'm intrigued to know how we setup moving the ball from the back? Was it long up the boundary or did they look to get direct through the middle? Who were the distributors off HB?

How did the forwards structure up?

Sorry for all the questions but if you were there, you have a BF obligation to keep us desk jockeys informed!!!!

(Thank you, please be nice to me)

Subes played midfield, just ok. Johno played the extra back and along with Ibbo were the main distibutors. Spurr was Spurr with the long bombs. Weller played back but I had to ask if he was playing, didnt notice him at all. Logue back on McCarthy then Tabs. Zac D and Collins the destroyers for each team. Just watching Johnno distribute and hit up players coming of the half back line showed how much we missed him. I think Sutcliffe was running with the mids. Sherriff, Meima and Fred Ziffell were also there so they might come up with a different perspective.

This in particular is really good news! We need him firing and we definitely need goals from our mids.

Thanks, Salim. Were the experienced backmen you've mentioned on the same team or opposing teams? If on the same team, it seems like Ross will start with more of the same and slowly introduce the the new guys.

I see our backline options being:

Key Position Defenders: Collins, Dawson, Pearce, Hamling (Pick 2)
Loose Utility: MJ, Ibbo, Logue, Crozier (Pick 2)
Small and/or Running Defender: Spurr, Sutcliffe, Weller, Ibbo (Pick 2)

Yes i was at training and Salim was actually up at the verandah where i was for half the game before he went to shift his car and he wandered off to the figs so apart from some comments Salim made about Logue we didnt have a long discussion about things. My view is that Logue just needs to adjust to the speed and tempo of AFL but i dont disagree that he will play AFL next year and that may even come early in the season but i dont see him in Best 22 in Rnd 1 but i would be happy to be proven wrong. Maybe Salim is referring to discussions he has had with training watchers under the figs where Fred Ziffel and others sit. Brad Hill Tabs and Sutcliffe were stanbouts in trying conditions today for mine and Subans long passing was to open up play was fantastic .

Nickos66 i dont know what your issue is but at least i was at training to see things for myself and to form my own opinions.

In addition to Salim's comments one of the other long term watchers is very effusive about Cox (I was reminded that he was U/18 All Australian last year at CHB) and he feels he should get some games in the early part of the season (from what i recall) as he is tallish and a slick mover and quite fast. . salim malik
