Draft Review 2017 - Revisit the 2017 AFL draft

I think Daniels is finally starting to get a bit of the kudos from the wider AFL community that us Giants fans have had since he first came in.
I just love him.
Our picks in the 20's in this draft of Taylor and Daniels are an outstanding result.

I think we end up with Brayshaw if Freo went LDU. Blues were sold on Dow and most had Raynor at 1.

Either way it would have been a win.

LDU is why you don't tank!! We had pick 1 leading into the last round - smashed Bris and ended up with pick 4.
Brayshaw was apparently Brisbane's other option at 1

Im glad Brent Daniels is starting to appear on these lists.

I think he is criminally underrated.

Leads the league in Goal Assists this year.

No coincidence that when he was injured we struggled, he is huge for us.

I'd have a few different ot that, but these things are always subjective.

Simlar to Miers but Miers has done it a little longer IMO. Daniels is still rising.

In my biased opinion, Daniels offers more than Miers (who I rate highly)

Daniels was excellent early (2019 he was top 3 for goal assists as well) but missed a lot of footy over the following 3 years (out of sight out mind) We really missed him too. Also being a Giant has him out of the limelight a bit.

Im biased, but i think he is an outstanding player.

These things are subjective, I would have him much higher than most.

At least he is on the radar now. Ive said a few times he should be on this list and this time last year, people were having none of that.

This depth in this draft is absolutely insane.

B: Brandon Starcevich (Pick 18), Sam Taylor (Pick 28), Charlie Ballard (Pick 42)
HB: Ed Richards (Pick 16), Tom McCartin (Pick 33), Wil Powell (Pick 19)
C: Adam Cerra (Pick 5), Luke Davies-Uniacke (Pick 4), Liam Baker (RD Pick 18)
HF: Dylan Moore (Pick 67), Aaron Naughton (Pick 9), Zac Bailey (Pick 15)
F: Bayley Fritsch (Pick 31), Oscar Allen (Pick 21), Brody Mihocek (RD Pick 6)
R: Tom De Koning (Pick 30), Tim Kelly (Pick 24), Andrew Brayshaw (Pick 2)
I: Noah Balta (Pick 25), Liam Ryan (Pick 26), Gryan Miers (Pick 57), Brent Daniels (Pick 27)

Team 2:
B: Brandon Zerk-Thatcher (Pick 66), Jack Payne (Pick 54), Nathan Murphy (Pick 39, 57 games)
HB: Nick Coffield (Pick 8), Harrison Petty (Pick 37), Ben Paton (Pick 46)
C: Kane Farrell (Pick 51), James Worpel (Pick 45), Matt Guelfi (Pick 76)
HF: Sam Switkowski (Pick 73), Darcy Fogarty (Pick 12), Lachlan Fogarty (Pick 22)
F: Cam Rayner (Pick 1), Joel Amartey (RD Pick 28), Jack Higgins (Pick 17)
R: Tristan Xerri (Pick 72), Paddy Dow (Pick 3), Hunter Clark (Pick 7)
I: Lloyd Meek (Pick 69), Jaidyn Stephenson (Pick 6), Lachlan Murphy (RD Pick 38), Jack Petruccelle (Pick 38)

Feels criminal leaving the likes of Worpel, Fogarty, Xerri, Higgins, Rayner, Meek and Amartey in the seconds, but they're all making ground.

This draft may have the obscure note of being the strongest general forward draft ever. Moore, Daniels, Bailey, Fritsch, Ryan, Miers, Daniels, Higgins, Rayner and Switkowski are all varying measures of really good at what they do.

I was gonna shout at you when I saw no Guelfi, but you've just listed him in the wrong spot haha. He's been a small forward since about halfway through 2022.

Think I've posted a previously updated side before and had the same chatter. Not many wing options so I popped him there because he's played a few roles throughout the years.

Pretty incredible when you consider how at the time this draft class was considered pretty weak.

There was someone on our board who was telling us on practically a daily basis how terrible it was and how picks in the late teens I think it was would be like picking in the rookie draft in other years! 🤣
