One thing that always brings a smile to my face is watching todays teens playing a pub jukebox - Doors, Zepellin, Stones, Credence et al. The music I grew up with, cos nobody has done anything better since.

Nah music been dead since the late 80s. 60s,70s and up to mid 80s is where it's at. Not a fan of Australian music either... To me it seems like pub music at best.
Disagree with the late 80s death of music. The whole grunge genre really took off in the late 80s early 90s which imo was the last new big musical push.

There was also some pretty good metal in the early 90s as well as although not everyone's cup of tea bands like sublime, korn and rage against the machine.

Also rap really took off in the late 80s early 90s although I'm not personally a huge fan there are still some fantastic rap and hip hop albums from the early 90s which Can't be discredited as 'dead music'.

Completely disagree re Australian music. How Australian crawl, midnight oil, beasts of bourbon, the angels is just 'pub music'.....

I mean I know you could regularly see them at places like the Mansfield tavern but **** me dead imagine if we could see that quality of music locally!! Compared to today's pub music.

Fair enough. I just dislike grunge, metal, rap and that kind of music. I mean when you compare Australian music to British or American IMO it is quiet a few steps behind in terms of quality which is understandable considering the differences in cultural and population demographics. Each to their own though.

You could see bands like radio birdman, sunny boys, screaming tribesman pretty regularly . Radio birdman while not commercially successful were hugely influential for generations of aussie bands. Having said that the last band I saw was urge overkill and they were pretty disappointing. The Cult is playing but I couldn't be assed going to eatonss hill and i doubt they are better than the 80's version

I think each to there own to be honest! Some fantastic British and American music same as Australian. I love how different styles get heard internationally then spun into their own thing for example the blues inspiring the Rolling Stones, the ramones and the early British punk seen inspiring Henry Rollins and therefore black flag and subsequent bands.

The greatest thing about music is that it is so subjective!!! However I implore everyone to not discredit a genre straight away. Whenever I listen to new music I try and find something I love, whether it be the bass line or a guitar lick or even the lyrics I think you will have a lot more of an enjoyable musical listening if you open your ears to everything!!!

For all you music lovers I encourage you to watch a documentary called 'A band called death' probably the most incredible music story I have ever heard and one of the best albums I've ever heard to boot. Fantastic documentary, incredible album I would seriously encourage everyone to watch/listen.

Death for the whole world to see - is the album if you're not interested in the story behind it.

Sorry to take this thread so off track but I love music and I love sharing it with everyone. Seriously this album will blow your mind it's incredible.

Merry Christmas everyone I hope you're all having fantastic times with your friends and family!!

Darcy Gardiner Jack Frost Tom Cutler
Cedric Cox Harris Andrews Sam Mayes
Dayne Zorko Dayne Beams Daniel Rich
Tom Bell Josh Schache Lewis Taylor
Eric Hipwood Josh Walker Allen Christensen
Stefan Martin Tom Rockliff Mitch Robinson
Ryan Bastinac Rhys Mathieson Hugh McCluggage Jake Barrett

Think if McStay wants to play forward he doesn't make the 22. And I'd like to think we've persisted long enough with Harwood, Claye, Bewick, Lester and Paparone.

Harwood and Paparone were best 22 until injured, not sure how you can say that?

Especially with Cutler, Cox and Mayes down back who's strengths as backmen would be their ability with the footy. Wouldn't want to tie them down by making them shutdown the oppositions best small forward which Harwood could do.

Agreed. And Paparone who can intercept down back, play on the wing or go forward. Valuable to our side.

Yeah true Paparone and Harwood were borderline best 22, so were Lester, Bewick and Beams, definitely all best 25 or so under Leppa. But realistically none of them are AFL standard players and I just think it's time to move on and look to the future. Harwood I can see coming in and playing a role down back, but as a few people have mentioned, he won't get another contract unless he really steps up, so I'd be reluctant to waste games on him when we could be getting games into more talented young prospects. Paparone I just don't rate, I don't think he brings anything other than running capacity. I think he was a leppitsch pet picked on potential that's never been realised (his physical + skill development have been non existent). He's been trialled in a few different positions and imo failed in all of them. But really hoping to be proven wrong with him.

Fair enough. I think of the two Paparone has the most to offer due to his versatility. I could see him on the wing being able to link up, push back and push forward really well due to his running ability. His kicking is decent and if he can improve it even more and bulk up enough so the wind doesn't blow him over he'll prove quite useful.

I think that with a Fagan/Hawthorne? Game plan. Paparone may fit in really quite well. He is a decent size and with his running ability, a wing role would suit. Although with his kicking, i think he kicks the ball with too much air allowing defenders to get to the ball far to easily. He needs to develop a much flatter and faster kick as with most of the group.

I think that won't be too hard to fix. While his kicks have lots of air, they're fairly accurate. It won't be too hard to adjust, especially if he finds himself alone on the wing. Just takes a little extra composure.

I remember one of his very early games where he kicked a few by gut busting running - streaming into the forward line taking a mark over his shoulder with no one in front of him. And his filling the hole defensively with the same run. Do not write Paps of under the new regime.

Paparone is an interesting one, his strengths are his running ability and his marking. His weakness is really his ability to hold himself at the contest. Not sure the defending role is for him. Would love to see him competing for the mobile forward option with Bell and Mayes.

What is the general consensus on Jake Barrett getting a crack in the senior side in Round 1? Anyone think it's a good possibility? I suppose his form in the pre season games will have a big say in whether he gets a go or not.

Has it been suggested that Mayes might actually move up forward or is this just a big footy thing?

He started there and I think he's one of the most natural forwards and strongest goal kickers we have in our team. I understand he was moved to defense under Leppa and there's a quote somewhere about him saying he wanted to be a defender but I tend to think his skillset isn't being properly utilised and we now have a plethora of options to fill his role is defense long term.

I have not heard it mentioned anywhere other than on Big Footy.

I reckon he is a massive chance myself but as you say, needs to play well preseason to earn elevation

Ignoring his rookie status, I reckon he'd be first in line if any of our midfield brigade were injured. He's a solid boy and has a few years under his belt. I'm happy we picked him up as I think he can play an important role in feeding the ball out to Rich/Beams etc. and allow Rocky to spend more time forward.
