Andrews pinch hit in the ruck a fair bit in 2016 and did a pretty good job I thought.

2015 he rucked a couple of times before shifting down back.

Edit: Also I think Andrews is meant to lead our defence. I'm not sure if we want to pull him out and rearrange our back 6 to give Stef a chop out.

Archie's games were against Port with Trengrove, Adelaide without Jacobs playing and Carlton with Kreuzer.

Even thou it won't be the best team balance at different stages, I think Archie needs to be given a decent run this year. Our Ruck stocks consists of a 30 y.o, a promoted Rookie, a rookie draftee and a game show winner, we need to find out where we stand with him to potentially fill any voids.
Archie needs to keep the work rate up around the ground and stay involved . He drifts out of games too easily, but if he can stay involved and keep his defensive pressure up and link handball he could be more than useful at afl level

He did pretty well finding contested footy but I think another part of the ruckmans role is to provide a long 'get out of trouble kick' to a contest which they'll at least be able to hold the ball in more often than not.

For sure and that is part of what I am saying you have to get to that spot to create that option . but that was an issue for the whole side last year, working when we didn't have the ball.

Yep. Can't discount the added pressure on everyone in the last couple of years, with the youth in and star power out or out of form. Neither Bewick or Lester will be stars, but both can be better than serviceable in as you say, a more organised or better performing team.
Most teams (even Premiership sides) have some pretty average players filling gaps or playing roles. Should we aspire to have better players? Yes, of course. But it may be unrealistic to expect to have 25 better players than these 2 at any given time. I think they can both be underrated sometimes.
I thought Bewick was one of our hardest runners when it came to spread and running to space.
Unfortunately turned it over at times , but was that because of others poor running and little support to the ball carrier . Underrated in my book as well.

His problems are 1 . Contested footy, and 2, playing more than a quarter or two here and there. Can't trust him bottom line, unfortunately.

Smith and Hill didn't win a lot of contested footy at the Hawks but still contributed.

The whole team has had an issue with point 2.

Hill was missing in action this year, and Bewick has been around long enough to know better .

Thought I'd have a go.

B: Gardiner Frost Harwood
HB: Cutler Andrews Mayes
C: Taylor Rich Zorko
HF: Bell Schache McStay
F: Christensen Walker Keays
R: Martin D.Beams Rockliff
I/C: Robinson, Bastinac, Paparone, McLuggage

Balanced team between experience and also still playing some talented players who need games, but have also proven they can play a role when selected.

The back six I think will be the most important. Two hard nuts in Gardiner and Harwood, with two distributers in Cutler and Mayes. Frost to lockdown and Andrews the backline general/intercept marker.

Gives a lot of our first and second year players time to develop in the reserves, then solid role players in Lester and Bewick can come in with injury/form.

Centreline a wee small...possibly McLuggage , or Cox .

You can with a Lamborghini though!

Who's going to be a bolter next season? Barrett? Grewar? Clayton?

Brisbane's Lions improvement will likely come from it's young key position players next season. Those who are in their 3rd-4th season in the AFL like Gardiner, Andrews, Close, McStay, Freeman, Smith, Cutler, Paparone etc. If they all improve their output in 2017 Brisbane could potentially win about 8-10 games and possibly then push for a top eight spot in 2018.

It'd be great if that happened, but I think more likely some of those guys will improve and some will continue to struggle. Andrews is probably already at a reasonably good level and hopefully will just get better, while Gardiner, Close, McStay and Freeman seem to have some fundamental problems holding them back, and unfortunately not all of those guys will ever get over those problems. Cutler and Paparone aren't really KPPs, but they've shown a bit and it'd definitely help us out anyway if they stepped up a level.

I think to finish with 8-10 wins next year we'd need quite a few players such as those you've mentioned to have a surprisingly big improvement, rather than a steady, natural improvement. Most likely we're on a long, slow ride back.

Robertson has the attributes if he cleans up some skill and decision-making deficiencies.

This may not be the appropriate place, but I really hope Dane beams is captain next year.
Isn't a polarizing figure as even rockliff referred to himself. Also I can sense he has a strong desire for our club to improve. Hopefully over his knee injury too. I really think the young players will look up to him.

I would like a dual captain set up with Beams one and I only hedge on him because he hasn't been on the field. Otherwise the logical choice

I reckon Cox is in for a big year. He is a year older than our draftees but the fact that he hasn't really completed a full preseason in a few years and he has from all reports already pushing his body to the limits in order to improve his running ability. I think he will take a few weeks to get up to scratch but towards the end of next season I think he will show that he should have been top 10 selection. Only problem is that he needs to get the ball a bit more but he is quality.
