Bell will be handballing an awful lot then...

Perfect. Win the ball, handball to someone else, gut run forward to receive the ball and absolutely no field kicking in between.

Should be Bell's modus operandi.

one thing Fagan is guaranteed to bring to the team is a ZERO TOLERANCE to poor kicking. I am interested to see how guys like Bell preform and respond to a huge challenge ahead of them
Most of our team is poor at kicking so not sure how much their DE will improve over 1 off season. More about their decision making, and if their decision making is spot on, it makes it look like theey have good DE ... however we haven't got the best decision makers either.

we certainly have some poor kickers and the spotlight will be on a heap of them

I think our biggest issue is our best ball users are either not on the park or are unable to get the thing themselves with enough space to use it.

Daniel Rich. The ball should be in this blokes hands 20 times a game. But his inability to break tags kills us.

Dayne Beams. Has played 17/18 games for us in 2 seasons. Hardly a bust, yet.

Tom Rockliff. Gets plenty of it. Uses it exceptionally. Our best and most consistent midfielder. His extracurricular activities has hurt his reputation and hopefully his pride. IMO we should retain him. Hope the change of personel above him and captaincy stripped he can take the right path and resurrect his elite footballing profile.

One could argue if these 3 leaders get it right one season we will fair better in games.

I'm still enjoying the afterglow from yesterday's win so let's kick off predictions for next years team.

2 list management decisions I'll assume are Merrett retires and Green requests a trade.

Not too sure on the last 2 spots on the bench. Both could easily be overtaken by Mathison, Keays, etc.

Not bad, but l would get rid of Hammelman and put McStay in his position and Close in McStay's position.

Iwould also have Mathieson in somewhere, maybe inplace of Keayes.

McStay too lazy imo. At least Hammer has a go, and he seemed to fit in really nicely near the end of the season.

IIRC Hammer polled extremely poorly in the B&F. Wouldn't have got near the team if we had anybody else available.

Probably wouldn't have Reuben as starting 22 next year either.

This is a bit further thinking on my post in this thread page 2 I think. I looked in the contract status thread and looked at length of players contracts. I've also ranked players as I see it for being ranked on the basis of the 1's are in big trouble. the 2's are borderline and 3's are safe for our list after next season. The big troubles are all in the last year of their contract given the need to turnover the list from year to year they would naturally be the most 'in the gun' next season. I've got others in borderline who are in the last year for example I see 1 of Close or Freeman being traded/delisted after next season (both in final year of contract).

The ones that really interest me are the 7 players I have 'borderline' who have contracts not just for 2017 but 2018. Really shows that we've had to overpay in years to get/keep players at the club.
Examples:
- Signing Jaden McGrath pick 73 in the 2014 draft to a deal tying him to the club for 4 total years off the back of one pre-season and a few 'competitive games' early 2015 is crazy.
- Signing Bewick and Lester journeymen mid 20's players to 2 year extensions mid season was a stretch.
- Giving Bastinac a 4 year deal to bribe him up here is a big stretch. (noting that I'm probably harsh calling him borderline after next season but I think after 2018 we might be regretting having him contracted for 2019).

The others (Dawson/Paparone) maybe have shown enough to warrant that extra year. but to me we have 15 players who are playing for their Lions careers next season and not enough flexibility in which ones we can delist. I doubt any of those players would attract any interest from opposition clubs aside from Rocky, Close, Freeman.

On the flip side. McStay, Cutler, Schache, Keays out of contract are the missions for next year (and I don't expect too many issues wiht Fagnob in charge)

quoted to save space.

Not lazy..just lacking confidence and playing in one of the worst coached teams ever, not my opinion alone , se ior list management and recruitment advice.

Half our best 22 wouldn't get a game ahead of any other club.

Nice hyperbole, but I reckon you'd struggle to actually name the 11 players who wouldn't get a game at any other club. There's plenty that won't get a game at every other club and only a couple that would get a game at every other club, but both are very different prospects.

Hammer, William, Gardiner, walker, Bastinac, shache, Keays, hipwood, bewick, lester, Clayton, dawson, n.robbo, Jansen, Taylor.

There's 15 who were all best 22 at one point or another during the year. I cannot see any of these guys breaking into any other team based on their performances this year. Not counting Essendon obviously.
