deadset my favourite time of the year as a lions supporter. this without draft recruits
HARWOOD | FROST | GARDINER - love Harwood, hope he breaks out and relieves the midfield from time to time
RICH | ANDREWS | MCSTAY - the more weight onto Andrews the better - will be the most feared backman in the comp, something must come of all the hurt
MAYES | BEAMS | CHRISTENSEN - solid disposal through this line
ZORKO | SCHACHE | MATHIESON - matho and zorko at shacks feet is a sweet sweet thought
BELL | WALKER | HIPWOOD - hipwood can kick bags, a less blatant and more slippery bradshaw

MARTIN | ROCKLIFF | ROBINSON - sickening midfield

CUTLER | BASTINAC | KEAYS | DAWSON - pretty interchange, cutler can do anything, basti and keays can relieve rocky to play some forward
EMG: ROBERTSON | CLOSE | TAYLOR
a few more games into Archie who showed some promise

only to be decimated by injuries amirite
but otherwise a good competition for spots

No way is Dawson best 22.wtf.

FB: Harwood - Frost - Gardiner
HB: Paparone - Andrews - Cutler

RUC
: Martin - Rocky - Robinson
MID: Rich - Beams - Taylor

HF:
Mayes - Close - Zorko
FF: Christensen - Walker - Schache

INT: McStay - Bastinac - Bell - Mathieson
EMG: Hipwood - Keays - Bewick

Something along those lines for me at this stage.

Hipwood will be in Keays will be in, close and walker competing for the same spot, Bastinac and bell to be overtakenby the kids

5 tall forwards into the 2-3 available spots will be interesting. Freeman is the obvious choice to miss out. Schache and Hipwood are clearly the future which leaves a really tough call between Close and Walker.

Walker's key points of difference are durability, maturity in his body and as a result effectiveness as a second ruck.

Close offers more running capacity, potential for defensive pressure and started hitting the scoreboard at a higher clip than walker at the end of the year.

Big preseason required from that group with an inkling of depth starting to present itself. Also ignores any possible swaps to defence or swaps of the likes of McStay/Paparone as the 3rd tall up forward.

It's scary how poor our depth is. We're in for another horror year, especially if we get injuries. Only one way (up) from here though I guess

Forget Bewick Bastinac, Lester,Paparone, its now about contested footy, and tbe future.Get rid of the list cloggers who have never delivered.

Strength of our club this year won't be by who's named each week but rather by who is not named.

No room for players who only boast better than average running capacity and offer little else.
Those who can't execute skills with or without pressure.
Those who can't apply pressure themselves.

I hope this new regime can get Christensen fit. As it stands on recent form and fitness, he is not best 22.
I can't believe how unfair the criticism Bundy cops is. A quality footballer who can play as a small forward, a small defender and through the midfield doesn't have a place in our best 22? Give me a break. He isn't without his weaknesses(He can fade in and out of games and his defensive running is poor), however, I thought his role in the back half covered his deficiencies quite well because it kept him involved in the game and he doesn't have to run defensively like he does playing as a half forward or in the midfield. On top of that he offers some run out of the back half, he is a good ball user and when we have stoppages in the back half he is capable of winning the contested footy/clearances. He was actually looking quite fit and lean this season as well before breaking his collar bone. He is honestly one of our better players.

He can look fit, but his aerobic abilities weren't up there. I want him to play well and he will be given chances.

Is this serious or in jest? I cannot decipher.

Pre-season hasn't started. We don't have a finalised list. We don't know our injury burden. We don't have any inkling to our coaching dynamic, efficacy. We have no feel for form. And that's just of our own team, let alone the Suns, or the rest of the competition.
Too many unknown unknowns to start rating games as those in which we have a chance and those we don't. Preposterous speculation.

Are you in the slightest way serious? Or just being combative for the sake of it? Preposterous? Shut up? You consider that a reaasonable response to my post?

You can put your gun back in the holster cowboy.

I was comparing round 1 last year in which we drew the toughest road trip in Football to play a reigning GF'ist team vs a trip down the highway to play a Q-clash, againts a reasonably good opposition, whom I think, we always stand a reasonable chance againts, albeit at first glance.

One thing is for sure Zorko has to play midfield. Plays his best footy there. Makes good decisions. Has speed. The year Leppa started him as a half forward for the first half of the season he couldn't get the ball and everyone was getting into him.
Getting puopolo would have made this reality. I would love zorks to play 100% midfield. Unfortunately. We need that pace up forward aswell.

With Hanley gone, he's also the only genuine midfielder we have with much pace. I'd like too see him spend 75% of his game time in the midfield and 25% of it up forward.

A midfield of Beams, Rockliff, Zorko, Robinson, Rich, Bundy and Bastinac looks good on paper. But Zorko is the only one with any genuine speed.

Agree.

I thought maybe I was the only one who thought he looked ok playing down back this year....a bit of the Chris Johnson sort of role.
