Good little interview with Matt Finnis, mostly talks about St Kilda's motivations in getting the pride game together, speaks a little about the AFLW bid too. I could listen to this man speak about the club all day, what a man

I'm listening now, and he represented us really well. I thought it was worth quoting the following passage, which was a response to a question the ladies asked about what his aspirations for the club were, in the context of him being there to talk about the club's involvement in the Pride game and the foundation/development of the AFLW:

----------------------------

Our players talk about their kind of trademark in terms of what they do and it's about play aggressive and this team-first attitude and then doing the right thing, which is, you know... but then they kind of have a.. "Well, why do we do what we do?" and they talk about this idea about "To Make Our People Proud", and so for us, it's all about making our people proud and feeling part of it, the journey that we're on.

So, whether that's in playing finals football and ultimately securing our second premiership - and the players know, they firmly believe that the thing they can do the most to make us feel proud will be to take a premiership cup home - but they know they can't do that every week, so they say "what'll we do along the way?" and that's a broader thing for our footy club too, so we are firmly focused on being a successful football team and winning a premiership, but our definition of success is broader than that, we wanna be a club that our members are proud to be part of, that our community is proud to be associated with, that our people are proud to work at, that our volunteers are proud... so, I don't know, it might sound a little corny but it's something which kinda just works for us, because it's really genuine, and its borne out of the work that the players are doing as well.

---------------------------

For the club to come through the shame - apologies if that's too strong a word - of our playing history, and perhaps more importantly the shame of the recent scandals that dragged our name through the mud and the exclusion of The Bubble and to make a statement like that, it DOES make me proud to be with St Kilda. Of course it's only words, but before words there must be thoughts and actions start from these thoughts.

Good on you St Kilda, keep making your people proud.

Just getting over a 6week stint of Sciatica, blew my back lifting heavy cement blocks x 300. I never knew you could really hurt in so many places at once, calf, hammy, quads lower back etc, left leg now has a cankle :D cant wait for the swelling to go down.

The BF injury list just keeps getting deeper
Can you give me any advice on treatment/recovery as I'm suffering from Sciatica also..
Bloody painful!!

Boy oh boy.
You can go over to the fitness area of the website and ask in the injury niggles thread or ask Rors in our thread that's around here somewhere, mightve been stickied.

Thanks for posting. I love hearing Richo speak.
He's going to be great on AFL 360 this season.

The most interesting thing about this interview?
When Richo admits that getting game time into the kids is no longer the priority.
It's getting each player to play their role.
For all posters arguing about Acres, Lonie, Dunstan, Longer, McCartin and just about everybody else.... This.

Best of luck, as you know its very painful.

I'm doing it all, it's such slow going & frustrating as you feel like your 90 years old..
Cheers

Guess many have seen the article about Plugger joining the Swans coaching panel.
Would have been great to have him working with young Paddy.
A little envious, that seems like a coup for them.
Tony's lost the plot!

Does he not remember the little pig? That was a Swans fan's idea of fun (at his expense).

Tragic.

I used to get bad sciatica when I played basketball, the physio got me doing hamstring stretches and it works a treat. If you stop doing them it can get bad again. If you down a couple of anti inflammatories and start light stretching and build up to holding your ankles you should keep it good. Good shoes that support arches were what he told me too...I don't do that though.

It's pretty ****ed up the sciatica, I used to get referred pain in the fronts of my legs and numbness from it, it sends you slowly nuts when you can't sleep or get in and out of the car even.

Maybe.
But a great player doesn't always make a great coach ( often the opposite).
Was Lockett great because of the way he went about training himself, or was he a natural?
Can he teach others to do what he did?
