Why would you give up on a 21 year old.

Lever is opportunity. If there and able to nab him why not.

My only concern is the money, he's probably going to cost at least $900,000 if the reports are right and then need to convince him to choose us over Dogs, Dees and Pies. I reckon the Pies will offer him all the extras like media gigs that he will get an extra $250,000 outside cap payment and it swings the deal.

Different types of player. Goddard is more a brown replacement
Yep, and even if they were the same type of player, you still don't turn down a gun just because you have a VFL player with a dodgy Achilles who has so far done nothing at afl level. Goddard (apparently) can also swing forward.

SO if we are going after Lever, we can assume that weve given up on Goddard ever being a 1st string defender, (bookends for a decade, spine is sorted etc etc) and the bloke we gave up a pretty decent pick for would be a depth player.

Sounds like Lonie might not be the only one wanting out if so.
I don't think this would quite be the case. Hugh has had a few setbacks and might need time to get himself up to a ones level so next year may be another development year for him.

Brown won't be there forever, so you would assume Brown will eventually be nudged out of the FB spot in a couple of years by Hughie.

Lever, Hugh and Carlisle are all quite different types but I think each would compliment one another.

Add in Robbo (maybe), White, Rice, Webster, etc and our backline would be sublime with some seriously elite skills.

Lever already taller and would be close to Rance's weight. I see what you're getting at but Lever isn't a key defender just as Carlisle isn't a key defender...he has an amazing ability to read the ball and sag off his direct opponent to impact the contest.
He's the best young defender I've seen come through in a long time.
People will disagree but I think talia at the same age was at the same level or better and Harris Andrews is just as good as lever just doesn't get the same plaudits

I reckon Rooey and Joey are gone, we haven't offered a contract to Lonie and Savage. I reckon we probably give up Hickey and Holmes and drop a couple to the rookie list if it's still there. Probably finish 9th next year with only the addition of one gun....Lever still extremely unlikely and we are going to have to have 4 or 5 make huge jumps to make it a step further next year.

The only thing we would get back for those is probably a 2nd rounder for Hickey and a third for Lonie. We won't have any picks before the third round if Hickey can't get a second for us and we get Kelly.

Freeman and Goddard want to make seniors next year or both will be delisted.

Now there's a few sharks jumped in one post!

OK, I'll bite.

Why won't Lonie & Sav be offered contracts?
How do you work out we'll finish 9th?
Why will we need to make 4 or 5 jumps to finish 9th?
What will other clubs do in the meantime?
Why won't we get a 2nd rounder for Hickey?
Why would we delist Freeman & Goddard when Wright, Minch & Pierce will be OOC?

What has made you so easily disheartened?

C'mon Gringo, get yourself up & about man!

I think that's the point, he's pointing out the unlikeliness by suggesting another unlikely destination. It's supposed to come across kinda like this:
'Would Kelly go to Carlton?'
'Yeah, or Uranus'

He's off to the Bummers?!?!

Why do most of us say what players have been offered by other clubs to move, but have know clue where that player will end up

Lonie and Sav have not been offered contracts yet, they would be silly not to be looking around.

I'm saying losing Rooey, Joey and Roberton along with Savage means just to be as good as this year we need other players to take up their slack. I'm saying that we need 4 or 5 not to finish ninth.

Some clubs will drop but some will improve. Im saying if we can't unload Hickey for a second, our first pick is going to be in the third round. Assuming Kelly costs 2 firsts. We swapped our second for Steele.

It won't happen but if it did the acquisition of Lever would mean that Roberton would be pushed up onto the wing

B Geary Brown Lever
HB Webster Carlisle Savage

Lever is more of a KP than Robbo, Robbo is a running back, Lever is most like Rance, Gibson or Scarlett. An undersized mobile KPB.

We would be best to rotate Savage and Webster through there if we keep them both. Robbo and Geary the most accountable of our small backs.

Was earmarked as a KPD but who knows where he ends up. Barely been able to get on the park and most recognise his versatility.

It's a bit early to compare him to Lonie.

Yeap which is why lever would take the third tall and Roberton push up the wing

Putting more responsibility on Webster and savage to drive the backline

Roberton as a winger could always swing behind the ball too. Just allows Dylan to have more freedom

Kelly will cost $1.5 million I doubt Robbo would be asking $700,000. To tempt a guy like Pittard away you probably have to offer even more than that. It would be hard to replace him with any other player with out spending more. Anyway apparently we don't want to give him as many years as he wants so we might lose him like we lost Joel Smith. If we are ******* about with our established best players then god help me we had better get Lever, Kelly and Pittard for less than we are paying Robbo or I'm convinced the people change but the club attracts **** wits.
So what's your limit on Robbo?

You're assuming his demands are reasonable.

He like every player had a limit in terms of value.
