With the depth of the draft crop this year, there was always going to be some super good but unlucky players to be delisted from clubs

Jack Carroll is one of them

There were times this year where I watched him and thought "Gee he looks good. I hope we don't live to regret taking Allison over him"

That's not something I do very often - probably doesn't mean anything but it suits the narrative :)

Hopefully he lives up to his potential because he has a lot of attributes that our current midfield lack - ball use, class, athleticism. Another thing he is really good at is lifting the ball above his head to free his hands to step around opponents - extremely useful when it comes to modern-day zone defence to keep the ball going forward

I have to admit i hadn't heard of him. Interesting and somewhat surprising selection.
Been in the system 4 years already, but being December born, perhaps he's only just hitting physical maturity.
If he has a tank to go with that neat left foot, then he could definitely be in the mix.
Also suggests to me they want Sinclair with his experience back on the half back line.

Some current mids need to lift their game this year.
Hall
Macrae
Carroll
One or two top ten mids.

Clark and Jones are well in the gun I reckon.
Carroll also fits the age profile of the list as well.

Still young but should be hitting his strides this year. 2020 draft so has a year on NAS, Owens and Windy.

Don't mind it. Looking at his highliights hes got some pace, looks a bit uncertain with the ball sometimes but had good hands (course he would in a highlights vid). Knows where the goals are.

Bit of a free hit, you'd think low money 1 year contract. I imagine out of Dow, Jones, Carroll and Hall only 1-2 of them will be on the list come 2026. Hunter and Byrnes will also likely never be comfortable unless they have serious break out seasons.

Certainty with the ball comes with continuous football at that level. We saw how much better the mids looked for us when Clark Dow and Jones got continuous games.
Being a sub 9 of 15 games won't give you that.
Numbers looked good in the VFL.

No traction at all? A bit like my ex-missus
At least you reached the threshold - maybe ended up injured, hopefully recovered!
I suspect a deal was made between Crouch’s management and St Kilda. Not pointing the finger at anyone as there are two sides and who knows who wanted what? Maybe Crouch wanted out selflessly and the team told him to keep at it? And the one game (to trigger the contract) was a show of faith?

In any case, I seem to remember at least one fan, presumably at the game, on these forums pointed out he was clearly not fit and playing under duress.

Very suspect but perhaps all for a good cause?

He's a mid. He averages 10 disposals at AFL level.
This is a bit lazy of you isn't it?

He was sub 7 times and subbed off another 2 times when he wasn't. 10 disposal average doesn't mean a lot.

He looked really good early in the year and his VFL form has been consistently on the upward trend.

Personally reckon he's worth a chance, 21 years of age, good user with some attributes. Those types are worth rolling the dice on when they are 21 years old.

What does that tell you?
That he is the whipping boy of a finals-contending team with one of the best midfields in the competition?

But sure, keep pursuing whatever this narrative is you're trying to convey, as long as it makes you feel better

I feel fine thanks. I just stated a simple fact and people are getting upset. Hope he kills it. Confident he won’t. I’d prefer the spot went to a tall or to an 18 year old from the draft. But hey, I understand the club can do no wrong in the eyes of many. I personally think it’s really strange decision. Bash away.

Confident he won't...why? The only justification you've provided is his 10 disposal average that's skewed by half of his games being sub-affected - basically a non-argument

He's 21 - its almost a mature-aged draftee depending on how you want to see it

If we had a kid averaging 25+ touches in the VFL as a mid with a complete point of difference to the rest of our midfield, who also showed at the start of the year he could play a month of consistent AFL footy, would you delist him?

I wonder if they have him earmarked for the back pocket role to lockdown small forwards? Jimmy Webster is reaching his twilight and with Ben Paton delisted we are bare in that area. Especially if Stocker stays in Midfield and I don’t think Stocker has the pace to keep up with the quicker small forwards.

I do feel like that when I’ve questioned moves or the Sandy deal etc. Many are loyalists! I’m just not sure here what makes you so confident he’s not much of a player.

The only thing for me is not getting a fourth pick in this super deep draft. Would have been a chance to get in a future KPP or Ruck or small forward before Tassie screws our picks.
