The same Reid who said we weren't in discussions about Gibbs?

The same Reid who said last year that 2 first rounders would be irresponsible list management?

Reid says whatever he thinks will get the best reaction.
So do you think we factored in Gibbs when we went for Motlop?

It's in a high interest account until next year. They named the account "Jeremy"
That’s the answer I was looking for.

RFA, we have cash, time and his brother to make it happen.

West Coast are going to be in for some pain this year and he may be ready for a move.

We need to start a death riding West Coast thread.

on first look it looks big but the swapping of 2018 picks makes it less so as we move up from a probable end of 2nd round pick to just after a 1st round pick (assuming Carlton stay close to the bottom). Likewise we also got a 3rd round pick which is very close to the end of the 2nd round.. So with that if you look at it that pick 16 this year becomes something like pick 22 in a better draft next year and we have downgraded our 2018 2nd round 6 places or so. So assuming Carlton do the right thing and finish in the bottom 4, we come out of the whole thing with gibbs, the loss of pick 10 and a downgrading of a late 1st round pick and a late 2018 2nd round pick by around 6 places..not too bad
Why did we not offer Carton 12 & 16

I'm not entirely convinced we were offering Motlop what has been reported.

I'm also not convinced we would have gotten Gibbs if we did get Motlop.
Ok let’s say it was $500k and if you’re not convinced we were always going to target Gibbs you’re showing poor judgement.

Our priority would have been Gibbs >>>>>>Motlop.

I give us around the B/B+ mark. Did very well considering the circumstances on the Lever and Cameron deals. The addition of Gibbs makes our midfield elite. We upgraded our first round pick to a point where we can get a very, very good talent (which I would not have been as confident with if we still had 16). We heavily traded into next year's super draft with three top 20 picks. Gibson is a free hit, and will probably play some games and do alright.

Most importantly, we were active. Much, MUCH better than simply standing still, like Richmond and Sydney

Wasn't happy at all with the Gibbs trade. Thought we lost that one very badly. Still think we paid too much. I guess it all hinges on the players we get with the picks we got, just how bad it was.

Over all though we won in almost every other deal we did. Very strong position for next years draft, and a decent pick this year with 12. Like a lot of other posters, I hope we get Fogarty. I just think we need to get some South Australia back into the AFC. Its fine to say best available, but the reality is we are always looking over the shoulder waiting for the next top pick to up and leave. We need to retain players to keep building.

I didn't think much of the Gibson trade. Didn't think he offered much at all really, until I went and watched some footage and watched his press conference. I have to admit, I went early on this one. He has made an impression on me. Reckon he is going to be a solid player for a few years. Looks a tough, hard at it, honest player. This one could end up being a real bonus.

Are we a better squad going into next season? ATM, no. We lost more than we gained in ready to go talent IMO. It will again come down to that organic growth thing and the players who do or don't take their opportunities. Doedee has to be a player. This ones on Ogilvy. Its time for his boy to stand up and take a place in our defense. Gallucci and Poholke need to come on too if we are going to contend again in 2018.

No you saw these guy doing that the same as Talia, Hartigan, Lever, Kelly marking the near the Forward 50.
What about the times you saw Walker and Eddie running from the Half Backline
I have more if you want to head that way,
Lol. Talia, Hartigan and Kelly in no way break the lines, run down the wing and kick goals like Smith did, or Cameron.

Agree with everything there Crowked. The strategy essentially is - hope Carlton and Melbourne don't go well, hope young kids step up in Lever/Cameron absence, then reap rewards in next years draft based on that. Like i said in the other thread, two first rounds for Gibbs was only reasonable if we got a 2018 2nd round outright in return or similar. All the swapping of 2018 picks is a gamble under the assumption the Blues will feature in the bottom 4 again. With Kangaroos, Suns, Lions and Dockers all in the rebuild, it's hard to say. Other than that, a haul of picks for next year is what we wanted and getting pick 12 is way overs for Cameron.

Gibson offers not much. I assume just experience in the SANFL but I hope he doesn't get in the way of other players like the Gooch, Milera, CEY, Hampton and Poholke.

"Shit stain" is a highly under utilised dressing down

No they did not do it the same as Smith, that why the Crow will have another player running hard from the Back lines, to support Liard.
And CC was a Forward Mid not a defender. MacKay had more run from the back line than CC, CC received most of his ball forward of Centre.
If you want some run and carry then Seedsman will do that But from the Wing as I Like Hampton, Milera or Gibson defensive game better than Seedsman.

You need to remember
CC a Forward with spells in the Middle. and can be replaced going forward.
Smith is an injured player who will return to the Crows.
