Nah it's 20% across the board.

I believe a bid at 30 would go like this ...

30 = 629 points - 20% discount
= 524

We'd then match with ...
54 - Less 220 = 304
62 - Less 123 = 181
and with our next pick not until 91, which doesn't have any points, we'd then go into a deficit for next year, which I'm pretty sure would mean we lose 181 points off our 2nd rounder (as it was a 2nd round bid) which would put our Pick 36 back to Pick 47.
did they change the 20% first round bid only to entire draft? cause i swear it used to be only the first round then like 200 point discount the rest. i was more talking about if we traded in a pick worth points with next yr pick would we have to use that pick for points?
with your thing is it better to trade next years 2nd for a couple 3rd round picks cause basically its gonna turn into a 3rd anyway so pay off Bedford and still have another pick this year. or hows it work if we have a deficit but traded out next years second does it just come off our 3rd or need to find a second round pick or a pick with just enough points n burn it.
wouldnt mind seeing us trading next years 2nd n 3rd picks and getting 1 of eagles(or close to 20 odd) seconds this year and next years 4th. can do that yeah? gives us 3 picks in the 20s before Bedford so theres 4 decent players

Nah there has never been a different rule for the first round to the rest, the only change they've made is they gave 25% for Academy, and 15% for Father/Son, which they changed a year or two later to 20% across the board.

No idea what would happen if we trade out our 2nd next year, it will probably come off our next pick? But yeah, I would seem to make sense for us to look at moving around a pick or two of next year's to improve our spot this year.

When matching a bid, teams receive a 20 per cent discount for first round picks and a flat discount of 197 points for picks outside of the first round.

seems like a high price to pay for father/son and academy players. moving up to the front of a round to match a bid can hurt your other picks big time, especially in the early going as there's some big points attached to the first rounders.

Not really, it's not the bargain that Viney for Pick 26 was, but it's to stop teams like Sydney absolutely rorting the system by matching a bid for Isaac Heeney at Pick 2 with Pick 18, paying closer to market value, but still getting a handy discount. Using a handful of late picks to get a 2nd round rated player is a pretty sweet deal I'd have thought.

Meanwhile, it'll be pretty frustrating next Thursday night when the draft kicks off, with us unlikely to be doing anything until the next night!

I can see why we’d be interested in Bedford. Quick and hit the contest hard and at speed. Loves a tackle also from what I hear. The Age pre draft podcast saying he’s loves to crunch people in Tackles.
One of the better highlight reels I've seen. Kicking looks a bit up and under.

On [device_name] using BigFooty.com mobile app

His kicking is very upright, like in how he drops the ball. Can't think of who to compare it too.
Reminds me of Melksham a bit. Like when he drops the ball over the top to one of our blokes.

If Bedford can work on a penetrating kick to compliment it he could be very damaging.

The legend that is Snoop Dog has us taking:

Pick 30 - Melbourne:

Jez McLennan / Central Districts / 183cm

Intercept defender from SA who has been impressive all year and CV just keeps getting better. Arguably the best small defender in the year. Shows the ability to read the play coming at him and to diffuse it pretty quickly through marking/spoiling. When he has the ball he is an offensive weapon. He makes good decisions and uses the ball well. Can sort of see him as that Sam Docherty type. Reminds me of him at same age.

In The Mix: Will Kelly (Collingwood Father-Son) Bid.

Pick 33 - Melbourne:

Sydney Stack / Perth / 177cm

Really good player to watch. Hits the contest hard and has a real want for the contest. Has speed and flair, and can make things happen rapidly around stoppages that propel the ball his team's way. Is he a talent? Yep, but he probably has some question marks around his discipline and hence clubs will look at him closely. If someone gets him late and then gets him focused, he is going to be a steal.

In The Mix: Fraser Turner, Bailey Williams.

Pick 41 - Melbourne Matching Bid:

Toby Bedford / Dandenong Stingrays / 176cm

Very lively small forward who creates a lot of activity around the ball either offensively or defensively. Agile and quick, his evasive ability and vision are really good and he's clean with his ball use. Can overdo it a bit and can be a bit up and down, but when you play that role it can happen. He generally picks the right pathway out of trouble. Will present well and I doubt that he will fall through to Melbourne's rookie list. Has spent some time through the middle in games that I have watched and looks OK, but not sure if has the tank to do it.

Pick 58 - Melbourne:

Joe Ayton-Delaney / Oakleigh Chargers / 179cm

At the start of the year I probably had him a bit higher up, but having said that he has had a solid year and I really rated some of his late form. Speed galore this kid, and a want to take the game on. Been a back pocket, but I think he might push up the field and become a really attacking line breaker from HB or Wing. His kicking can be a bit hit and miss, but gee when its on it is very good. Sometimes I wonder whether his skill errors come more from just being too attacking. If that’s the case, clubs can correct that pretty easily.

In The Mix: Nick Hind.

Pick 72 - Melbourne Residual Selection:

Hugo Munn / Sturt / 197cm

Solid unit who impressed at champs and has been given senior opportunities with Sturt. Every year I get less excited about advocating for tall forwards outside of the first round, but I am going to suggest this kid will go around here. What works in his favour is that he shows the smarts in his leading patterns. His speed is OK as is his agility, but there may be question marks for him. Great mark, possesses terrific hands and is good finisher. Yep he is a bit 'meat and potatoes', but he could well be that Leigh Brown style of player that just plays his role. Would think somewhere around the 30-60 range for him.

In The Mix: Riley Bowman, Noah Gown, Dillon O'Reilly.

Pick 81 - Melbourne:

Charlie Sprague / Geelong Falcons / 187cm

Announced himself in a Young Gun game last year and started this year really well, before suffering a hand injury that kept him out of the Champs. Caught one of his first games back and he was brilliant. Really clean and smart with his decision making and execution. Knows where the goals are and hits the scoreboard. He does some really special things and clubs could see something to work with. Smart player and reckon if had a full year would be a lot higher.

In The Mix: Rylie Morgan.

Rookie Pick 13 Melbourne:

Xavier O'Neill

I probably have lower than others, but I just didn’t see games where he really influenced them. His best is very good and he does have real AFL attributes with his movement, kicking and agility but I am just not sure he wins it enough.

Rookie Pick 25 - Melbourne:

Nick Baker

Running HB type who presents really well. Every time have watched him play, he has shown something for mine. Nice size, reads the game well, intercepts and is a great kick off both feet and uses that to attack the game. Defensively was also very good. Used his body well in the contest and was able to out body bigger types pretty well. Lot to like with him.

Props to Snoop for the write ups. I did however give them the ol' English Teacher once over to give them a bit of a polish. I think he's pretty spot on addressing our needs though. A bunch of midfield/half-back flanker types to hopefully develop to eventually replace our older clientele, a couple small forwards and probably at least one project tall forward with Jesse and Pedo gone.

Did he have someone else taking the 2 VFL bpys we should be bringing in? or just completely forget about them?

How do we lose pick 23 and get pick 33?

Edit: Oh I get it. they move five picks backward for various reasons.

Yeah my first impressions off that video is he could be a lovely kick. Has a good technique and that 35m snap is not an easy skill.

Not a bad highlight clip. Looks to have confidence to burn, is quick and has a decent skill set.

I’d be pretty happy to get him with our 3rd selection.
