If we give the State League concession players contracts for more than 3 years, maybe we can still have them on our Rookie List for their first 3 years. Does anyone know the ruling on that? It would give us a bit more room for others on the Senior List.

'The club would be provided an additional two category A rookie positions for the 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.'

For now it looks like only 2019.

Come on mate. I know you have a rugby league background and this observation is very common in NRL social circles but I don't think it really applies in the AFL. Both clubs have been quite amicable towards one another over the years when it comes to drafting/trading. Example: Brisbane chose not to bid on Bowes in 2016 when you could easily argue it was in their best interests to go after him at the time and make life difficult for us.

Lions fans don't owe us gratitude for a trade that benefitted us as well. We no longer needed a lot of those later picks after Bailey Scott chose to join North Melbourne. We can use pick 24 to our advantage more than those later picks.

Yeah the difference is like chalk and cheese. I really hope one day we can have a proper rivalry. In the meantime though I want to try and fuel it a bit.

What is the different between Pick 24 and pick 32 in term of players rating ? Any prove that pick 20-30 players are more successful than pick 30+ onwards in AFL .

I'm pretty sure they could stay on the rookie list for 3 years, as long as we don't exceed our quota of rookies each year. My question was more about whether a player with a 4 year contract could be rookied for some of his contract period. I think they probably can, but I'd like to know for sure.

My understanding is there is nothing preventing a player signing a contract that includes rookie list time / salary. If they do - they could be a rookie for the standard 2 years and possibility a third so long as they agree to remaining a rookie for a third year.
A four year contract as agreed with Burgess would indicate his elevation to the senior list at some point during that period - as you cannot be a rookie for greater than 3 years.

I see it more along the lines of
Outs:
Tom Lynch
Michael Barlow
Michael Rischatelli
Matt Rosa
Aaron Hall
Josh Jaska (rookie)
Max Spencer (rookie)
Mackenzie Willis (rookie)

Uncontracted: Trade/delist
Kade Kolodjashnij
Jack Leslie
Jesse Lonergan
Jacob Dawson (rookie) - no reason to move these guys on from the rookie list. senior spots is where the squeeze is
Jacob Heron (rookie) - no reason to move these guys on from the rookie list. senior spots is where the squeeze is

Unknown:
Steven May
Jack Scrimshaw

Payed out, delisted & rookie listed:
Scheer - this hasnt been confirmed yet, i imagine it will depend on the above.
Wigg - this hasnt been confirmed yet

Senior list ins:
Miles
Ellis
Corbett* Whichever of these two guys got the four year deal is on the senior list (as cant be on rookie list more than three years). the other could quite easily (and IMO is likely) be on the rookie list, given we were allocated 2 additional rookie list positions and 3 selections.)
Burgess*
MacPherson (upgraded)
Horlin-Smith (to sign shortly)
5 x draft?

I see 5 senior outs and 10 senior ins.
If we lose all of kolo, leslie, and lonergan that takes us to 8 senior outs to 10 ins.
From there we only need to find one more spot from May/Scrim/Scheer/Wigg, as i'm pretty sure we were one light on the senior list anyway.
This assumes:
we DO get GHS
we avoid picking up any other detritus from other clubs Hombsch etc
the other predraft selection goes onto the rookie list.

Detritus :D:thumbsu:

Looks like we back on again.
We’ll get Mays answer soon

Not much in that article just that Hogan passed the medical at Freo and that Melbourne wants pick 5 and another 1st round pick.

Said then Melbourne will give up pick 5 for May.

Also said Suns and Melbourne are getting closer to getting a deal done for KK they reckon a future 3rd round pick will get it done

Melbourne are on the rise, a future 3rd rounder could be in the mid 50s. NO.

Suggested on the Melb board that they'll get Norths 2nd rounder and trade with us for KK

Brisbane isn't too bad. It's just having the Gold Coast down the road makes it look shitty by comparison. Masses of Brisbanites try to escape from there every weekend, so we've set up theme parks and Surfers at the northern end to limit any infiltration further south.

There’s no need for us to be in this Neale/Hogan/May Trade.
We will get a top 5 pick for May in twelve months time if we keep him. There’s also the possibility May during next season decides he wants to be a GC legend and buy right in again which is also a win for us.
I’d be more than happy to stuff this up for Melbourne/Brisbane/Fremantle as it’s of way more benefit to them for this to happen then it is for us.
They need to come up with something outstanding for us to even bother entertaining this.

Wait just realised what you’ve written. Yuk

Aint Melb giving us pick 5 for May

Why u complicate it so much lol
May and Pick 29 = pick 5 is quite reasonable
GC gave up pick 2 for Weller and pick 41 .
