Not only if he'll be upgraded, but I just found this on our website....

Holman said he was hoping to just play five games in 2018, but after playing every one of them he will be eyeing a similar return in 2019. He still has more to prove for another extension on his one-year deal so will be doing everything possible to ensure he remains in Stuart Dew’s plans.
Rookie can extend 1 year rookie contract without upgrade and play.

I would look at both Menzel and Jordan Murdoch who also got cut
Menzel is an interesting one. Absolutely knows where the goals are and if he could hang in for a full season would be one of the best small forwards in the league in terms of goals. However the defensive side of his is not nearly good enough. Whether that’s because of effort, waiting for others to do it so he can get the glory of a goal, or he’s concerned about his knee/s during contact, but it’s been questioned for years now without anything changing. Would take him though as he can kick a goal and we need as many of that type as we can on our list.

Murdoch on the other hand, pass. I remember I think it was last year (maybe 2 years ago) when we played the cats up here and he was a late in I remember thinking he is the worst player I have ever seen live. And that’s saying something considering some of the players we’ve had to sit through over the years. Obviously only one game, but not a huge fan unless it’s as a rookie maybe.

Not buying Menzel , people keep talking about him scoring goal , if he can't score with Dangerfield and Selwood playing in midfield he got a big problem .He is Matera type score goal but will allow opposition HB rebound as quick as well with his defensive effort .

Don't want Menzel at all... I remember watching a Geelong game and he was running into goal 55m out and had the Captain by himself 25m out with no one within 30m of him and he has a massive shot for goal and misses... Selwood went ballistic at him....If he burns the captain like that, he is no team player..

Then I read this......

“After not playing AFL football in two years, Nick had a really good year for us in 2018. We brought him in to play a specific role and we think he did extremely well to play every match of the season. His tackling pressure was a standout this year but we were also really pleased how often he was able to hit the scoreboard for us. He was rewarded for his efforts with a contract extension and we look forward to seeing what he can produce next year.” – Stuart Dew

So I'm with you, I don't exactly know where he sits........
If Holman didn't earn an extension last year nobody did. Would be a huge same not to see him in Sun's colours next year.

Looking at todays website it shows 31 senior players incl Ritsca, so 30 once he goes to rooks.
32 then, once Holman and MacPherson go to the list. Add on Miles Ellis Hombsch and GHS =36 giving 4 spots open I reckon.
Rischa Collins Burgess and Corbett = 4 A Rooks. 2 spots open I think
Heron and Dawson Cat B rooks.....

We can only draft 4 unless we de-list one.

That's my take but my maths ain't so good at times....
Holman could still be on a rookie list so we should be able to draft 5 and still have 2 rookies spots available for Koenen and Graham.
Suns allowed 40 senior + 6 A rookies + 3 B rookies = 49 players
I believe after trade we got 42 players. 35 senior, 5 A rookies (Holman, Rischitelli, Collins, Burgess, Corbet), 2 B rookies (Heron, Dawson).

If Collins , Burgess , Corbett can be place on Rookie A are true , does that mean Geelong Krueger and Adelaide McAdam can be place on their rookie list too . Big advantage for them .

No because they were traded

After watching McLennans tomorrow’s heroes he seems exactly like the type of player we need now that May is gone. Strong intercepting, rebounding defender. That plus interest in coming up makes me think we should package up 24 and 29 to someone like Richmond to guarantee we get him

One of Koenen and Graham will get a bid by another club in the 2nd part of the draft. The second academy position may come down to McDonald, Gilmore, Simmington, Conroy or Foster

I am happy to let them go to other club , KPP normally take more than 2 years to develop , might be available for free as DFA afte two years eg Kiera Collins , Hugh Goddard etc.

If he's there at 29 have a look but don't anticipate we will need to reach that high to get him.

The AFL Commission found 3 main factors that the Suns had to improve: player development, injury management and investing in the Academy. The action they recommended was that the Suns be given the 3 State Level selections outside of the Draft and 2 extra Rookie List spots. The reasoning behind this was to ensure the Suns could bring in big-bodied mature players without sacrificing the Academy program. Do not be surprised if the final Senior spot, the 6th Cat A spot and the 3rd Cat B spot all go to rookies.

There are already plenty of prove-it players and you could just about lob Connor Nutting and Wil Powell in with this year's Draft crop in terms of development. More mature-aged players at this stage doesn't make sense, especially not in the draft where we should be going for talent that we can develop instead of a washout who's had a good year in the State LEagues.

Update on mature players we supposedly have been linked with

Townsend
Gilbert
Casboult
Marlion Pickett
Honeychurch
Keays
Toumpas
Goddard
Crameri

Crameri was on SEN a month ago, his body is cooked, he won’t even be able to play for Maryborough in the Bendigo League.
