What’s the drainage like on the Bond University ground?
The drainage at the Bond AFL ground is pretty good. Directional signs are out this morning (take the left hand exit at the first roundabout on University Drive) and there should be parking around the ring road - first in better dressed. Not a lot of places to avoid the rain if that continues.

Will it be a washout?
Are we going to have another season cursed by poor weather?
Is the continual poor weather over the years a contributing factor to our bad injury run?
Was hoping to just see some signs of Dew, not a bucketload of Raines.

It’s been pretty dry overall this year up here, even the Storms haven’t had much rain in them.
This is the first decent rain we’ve had in a while.
So I wouldn’t be too concerned at this stage.
I don’t know about the Bond Uni drainage.
I’d say the Family Night will need to be cancelled but don’t know about the Trial Game itself.

I agree that the media shouldn't be relied on for accountability but in footy states it's just the way it is. You perform poorly - the media (and public) will smash you. It creates an us against them mentality inside the four walls of a club and lots of players come back the next week with a 'I'll show you' mentality. It rarely happens, but occasionally Gold Coast do get cooked by the southern media and my recollection is that the Suns will often come out and perform very well when that happens. The Geelong game at Metricon last year was a good example of that and a few years back when the Suns touched up North at Etihad.

But you need that kind of accountability/mentality every week if you want to be competitive in this league. That's why it's crucial to drive your own internal standards in Queensland. Brisbane were very good at it back in their premiership days. Leigh Matthews never rested on his laurels and players like Michael Voss were very demanding when it came to effort/aggression.
The Lions were a hard unit, aggressive on the ball and players had to be 100% committed or they got traded. Shane O'Bree was a good player, but didn't fit Lethal's plans and he was gone. Jude Bolton had a great career, but couldn't crack the Lions squad during their very best period. Jarrod Molloy was hard at the footy and fun to watch, but didn't fit and got traded to Collingwood for Mal Michael, who did fit. The Scott twins are carbon copies of Lethal and nobody was surprised that they were sought after coaches. I was devastated that Michael Voss didn't go through with being the Suns inaugural coach, but the two sides were too far apart. Could have been a much different first 7 seasons...

I would say the same about Marcus Ashcroft, except a lot of people around here don't rate him at all. I put myself in the group that highly value his contribution, minority as it is. Shaun Hart is a bit preachy, for mine, and although I don't think he'll do harm at all I'm reserving my judgement until I see results.

I take it you have that opinion from looking afar ? I've had to deal with Marcus at club level and he is a very devisive sort of character , you ask people at the broady football club what they think of him and you'll get a fair reflection the person he is which has translated to his worklife at the Suns from what ive heard is no different .

Exactly what l have heard from people who have dealt with him and worse.

It's been cancelled unfortunately

Hey eppo67 I see the family night has been cancelled do you know if the actual game has been called off too?On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app

Transferred:

As such the football component of the evening will transferred back to the Metricon Stadium precinct, however unfortunately due to the restricted access the club is not in a positon to open this to members and fans.

I won't go into detail and l'm not trying to bait you but obviously you don't know him because he is so far from 'preachy'.
Shaun Hart doesn't do 'preachy'.

It is now at the Metricon Training oval at this stage.

Yep, never met the bloke, but I followed his footy career pretty closely. My comment was in relation to this about Shaun Hart "the ultimate clubman who got every drop out of his ability. He played in the Lions 3 Premierships. Great for the clubs culture." Describes a few of the lesser lights during the Lions threepeat (yes, I was a Bears fan from 1987, Lions fan until the day GC17 was announced). Ashcroft the player well very well regarded, but most at the Suns are glad to see the back of him. Shaun Hart has his fans and detractors. I loved his fearless playing style and penchant for lifting in bigtime games. I switch off when he gets all preachy and bangs on about his religion, but he sounds like he's changed his ways.
Probs should get back on topic. Sucks about the game being cancelled for fans. Sounds like it will still happen behind closed doors...

To answer your question about having another season ruined by weather, we can probably rule that out for now.
Gold Coast weather will be irrelevant until June.
Not being a smart arse, but I just checked the forecasts for Cairns, Melbourne and Perth around Easter and we're all good.
Huey has other plans today and might decide to come back in Winter.

re: Shaun Hart (not Ashcroft)...You may be right about being a "bit preachy" but I liken him to a Craig Lambert type......should be really great with the young blokes.

So what you're saying is if any of our players are ever suspected of taking PEDS, Shaun will hide them at his place until the heats off? Cool :thumbsu:

Sorry l really don't want to start a tit for tat but can you provide me with an example of when Hart got
"all preachy and bangs on about his religion."

Honestly, I have tuned out on every soundbite and media clip of him since his playing days, so it sounds for sure like he's not as I remembered him any longer. Back in the day, every single radio or tv interview he did he couldn't mention God fast enough. When he won the Norm Smith, his speech was deadset crap because he thanked God and Jesus before acknowledging his team mates. First Premiership for the Lions in 60 odd years and they've just beaten one of the best sides ever to lace on boots and Shaun Hart says that! Even Vossy wasn't impressed.

Hart's speech starts at around 2:00

Again, I'm not going on anything recent or personal, and I'm more than happy that Shaun's at the club as his experience is invaluable and he identifies as a local having joined the Bears when they were still at Carrara and lived there until his previous stint at the Suns ended. Good luck to him and I hope he can give us some insight into how to beat bloody Port!

He mentioned his faith for approximately 4 seconds. I knew that would be the example you would use.
No offence please but if that's your example of preachy and banging on.
Wows.
