He mentioned his faith for approximately 4 seconds. I knew that would be the example you would use.
No offence please but if that's your example of preachy and banging on.
Wows.
At least Shaun sounds absolutely firm in his beliefs ;), unlike Gary Ablett Sr receiving his in 1989.
If Harty’s teammates had his commitment, maybe they would have won in 2004 without him. I have it on good authority there were some too busy rehearsing their own Norm Smith speeches prior to the match, instead of concentrating on winning the match itself.

17er was quite conciliatory in his message then, not sure why you had to have a counter crack.
Glad to hear Hart doesn’t shove his religion down people’s throats, we all saw the effect of having a God Squad Clique in the club when we made The Little Wierdo Super Wealthy at our expense.
Don’t need that crap again.

There were a lot of other factors going on in 2004, not least of them being that Shaun Hart had been smashed into retirement the week before by his own team mate.

The guy is the most renowned Born Again Christian player in the AFL. He's been all over the country as a guest speaker to church groups about his life as a footballer. It isn't even open for debate. It's just a fact. As it says in one of the articles, he copped a lot of blowback from his speech after the 2001 GF. He also copped a lot of plaudits for his performance. There is a lot to be said of keeping the two sides of his personal and professional lives separate and he's demonstrated impressive self awareness to the point of even getting frustrated when the subject is brought up. So let's leave it be and see what happens.

Hi all.

Sorry to intrude. I couldn't find a Suns fantasy questions thread do I thought I'd ask in here.

I play Supercoach and currently have Barlow, Martin, Brodie and Holman (mid bench) from your mob. I'm really bullish on Martin - he is my smokey to be a top five forward this season. But my main questions are with Barlow and Holman.

1. Will Barlow play enough mid time to be relevant? What's his fitness like? (seems to miss a lot of games)

2. Is Holman a chance of getting a game?

What the heck. 3. Is my confidence in Martin justified? I think with Ablett gone he plays more mid time and if he does, will score well. He looks to be a star in the making.

Thanks in advance.

Boris

Looks like Sexton's having a shot at goal from the pocket. I'd have him in the forward line any day.

Sure. Lynch and Brown were on one leg, forced to play at the MCG when they’d earned the right to play a home final etc. They were just buggared. Getting to four in a row just took its toll. I had a friendly bet going before they won their first in 2001 that they could win four in a row, but I could tell by the third quarter in 2004 they were not going to make it. Still to this day have not watched that last quarter. So disappointed.

Mzungu was just given a position back at the Dockers in their Next Generation Program, similar to the Suns Academy, so clearly the Dockers rate him. De Boer got a contract extension with GWS, so he has obviously impressed them. Freo's commitment to their rebuild released some good players to seek opportunities elsewhere. Even though he's been coach for 5 years, Ross Lyon is only now getting the list he wanted and it's too young. By the time it matures, all their past heroes will be long gone.

Not sure if I believe that Ross Lyon is getting the list right though (the list he wanted) - he seems to be influenced by choosing marquee players, Bennell is not doing as well as expected in returning to WA?

If the AFL hadn't have changed the Brisbane zone from 100kms to 50kms, maybe Riewoldt would have forced Lynchy's retirement by then! But the biggest impediment to the Lions was being made to play their "home" Preliminary Final at the MCG instead of the Gabba. Even worse was the decision to schedule Port's Home Prelim in Adelaide on the Friday, while the Lions had to play the next night and wait for flights back to Brisbane on Sunday. Two days less preparation time in Grand Final Week really told in the 2nd half.

What is the general feeling with wil Powell? Can't find much footage of him but the stuff there was, looked really good.
Personally, I hope they stick him in NEAFL until he shows something. If the season is going so poorly that he needs to be blooded then it's pink roses anyway. That or he's the next Simon Black. Or both!

Nope, and I can't see things changing while Lyon is coach. Unless the Dockers have Collingwood/Buckley type faith, which I don't know that Collingwood will have if the Pies don't make the Finals again. 3 losing season is usually the pattern unless you're a club's favourite son. Or you're Carlton and you throw away the best internal coach you've raised since Jesulenko.

Interesting to see Tom Lynch praising Bowes as the big improver this off season. He must be doing a lot right to be getting so much credit!

Sexton is the 'unsexy' (excuse the pun) pick in the forward line, though he always has an eye for goal.

43 goals in 75 games for a player who doesn't play forward a lot is a decent return. Wouldn't mind trying him up forward as another small forward.

Young - Lynch - Martin
Sexton - Wright - Ainsworth
That forward line looks decent to me (at least on paper).

Sexton's pretty speedy too and as long as he doesn't drop his head as soon as the opposition get the ball then he should be able to provide harrassment, chasing and tackling in the forward 50 (on paper at least). Definitely a spot for him if he can do these things and hit the scoreboard like he can do. Worth a try.

Would give us yet another outlet to goal. All we need to do is be able to deliver the ball inside 50 consistently and to our advantage for a change.

Hopefully Dew can coach the harassment into Sexton.

Hi Boris, I'll bite.

Barlow will be one of the first players picked. He's versatile, can run all day and is an on-field leader. When he went down last year it deflated the Suns playing group because he really added some run and grunt.

Holman adds depth and experience. He's not predicted by many to be in the starting side, but for the first time in a long time the NEAFL side looks pretty promising and he will have the chance to win his way into the top side.

Jack Martin is just not all that big, so the question is more whether Dew can find Martin's perfect position and play him there. You still get the feeling that he's better off in the forward line, but look for him to get some run through the midfield. He is already a star, just not a massive accumulator.

Sexxy needs to straighten up a bit.Gets to where the ball is, and has good opportunities but doesn't make the most of them.Last part of last year I think he was still favouring the broken arm so I'm hoping he'll start racking up the numbers I think he's capable of this year. He's a s close to a Gunston or Breust as we've got
