Better list, but a shit club.

Lynch wants to go somewhere where he doesn’t have to concern himself with a new coach/conditioning manager/footy dept manager every 18 months.

He will accept good money, but money isn’t his driver for change.

Sounds like you know what he's doing. Or is it a guess ?

I have it on good authority that we are up to our eyeballs in luring him, has its been this way for some time, but my statement about why he is looking elsewhere comes partly from listening to ex-coaches and players from the Suns who have reported all of its shortcomings over the years.

It doesn’t take much to workout why he’d be looking to get out.

Triple M's Jay Clark believes Hawthorn is the sleeping giant in the race to poach Tom Lynch from Gold Coast.

There's been plenty of talk about the Suns co-captain, who is out of contract and could court a move home to Victoria at the end of the season.

But Clark believes it's Hawthorn who could put up the biggest fight.

"I think Hawthorn is the sleeping giant here."

Clark thinks Hawthorn could deviate from their pay structure to spend the dollars necessary to get him.

"I know they haven’t paid their players or their recruits that much, sort of seven hundred (thousand) or under for (Tom) Mitchell, (Jaeger) O’Meara, that sort. Clarko’s been very structured on that," he said.

"I think for Tommy Lynch the Hawks could offer him that bigger money probably that he needs.

"I think they’re able and willing to go out of their disciplined pay structure to get him."

I have always liked Jay Clarke, the guy has never been wrong ;) Lock Lynch in as a Hawk now!

Gee I’d climb over hot coals and Tom lynch if it were possible to get a Dylan shiels to Hawthorn. Impossible as that may seem

Our ends if the field seem good till babe and rough retire. I know we got Mitchell and JOM recently but I’m greedy. I’d like to see one more a grader in their prime in there

Oh mate i am with you on that one, he is a genuine star of the competition. He has speed to burn and is a good kick, would love to have him at the Hawks.

Not to mention just imagine Jaeger and Shield playing alongside each other? Our membership numbers would go through the roof with 2 good looking roosters like them playing for us.

Shiel was the object of our affection a couple of years ago. Depending who you listen to we were a good chance of gaining his services, until the AFL took him to dinner.

Right now I'd think we'd be more chance of sneaking Coniglio out of GWS, due mainly to his tight friendship with Jaeger, but even that seems a very long shot.

MISSING OUT ON IMPEY IN 2013.

After trading in Impey, it was revealed that GW & Clarko had coveting him since his draft year, 2013.

That got me thinking, why didn't we secure him in the 2013 draft?

In that year's draft, we started with picks 18 & 19, but traded them out and ended up with our first selection at 24.

Impey was anticipated to go somewhere between 20-45. We presumably thought that we could secure him at pick 24.

However, Port selected Impey at 21.
Having missed out, we selected an alternative speedster at pick 24, Hartung.

At the end of 2017, we managed to reverse this situation - effectively replacing Hartung with Impey (by letting Hartung go & trading a second round pick for Impey).

Looking back, what were the consequences of trading out picks 18 & 19 in the way we did?
We traded 18 (& shane savage) to St. Kilda for McEvoy.
We traded 19 to St Kilda for picks 24 & 59.
We used 24 to select Hartung.
We used 59 to select Ceglar.

[Edit: we used 59 to upgrade Ceglar from our rookie list.]

Clearly, we were after a speedster & ruck strength.

There was an obvious alternative outcome.
We had been into Billy Longer, until St Kilda offered us McEvoy. St Kilda then secured Longer from Brisbane, for pick 25 plus some steak knives.

Had we not traded with St Kilda, we presumably would have used picks 18 & 19 to trade in Longer & select Impey.

(Of course, we did other things in that draft, picking Garlett & Sicily, & upgrading Will Langford from rookie list.)

[Edit: At the time St Kilda faced a salary cap crisis, and was trying to implement Chris Pelchen's draft-driven rebuild plan. In the process, they forced McEvoy, Nick Dal Santo and Brendon Goddard to switch clubs, but didn't admitt they were pushing out loyal players. They publicly bagged Goddard for his disloyalty & greed, notwithstanding that he'd begged to be allowed to stay.]

I know it wasn’t his doing but it makes me want to punch Hartung even more
